I'm after a stylish/inexpensive/practical changing bag, preferably with some sort of pattern/design on it. It needs to have a long strap which I can use to hang it across the handles as well. There's a few in TK Maxx by hop skip I think they're called, but the straps are too short.

I've no idea the sex of baby, but I don't think that mattes does it with something like this?

What have you chosen?

yummy mummy. can get them online in various designs cheaper than in main shops. I've had mine for 14 months, used every day and not a problem with it considering the battering it gets!

Emsgale · 29/02/2012 20:25

I got a really nice leatjer effect one from next really stylish but v pratical with long strap and short handles and not silly exspensuve about £35 xx

McPhee · 29/02/2012 20:28

I did look at yummy mummy, but they all seemed a bit twee Blush

Next might be a good bet actually, I've got an account Grin, although I didn't know they did changing bags.

I wanted a Cath Kidston one with the cowboy print in oilcloth, but wasn't prepared to pay £70 so I searched on eBay for oilcloth changing bags and found lots of really funky ones to choose from for just over £30. A friend of mine got a really nice one from Anorak, not sure how much tho. I liked the yummy mummy ones but they're quite feminine and I might want/need dh to be on baby changing duty sometimes and not sure he'd be too keen on carrying a yummy mummy bag!

I've got a nice tiny tillia one, has a long strap as well as handles and has a lovely bold flower pattern, sort of similar to Orla Kiely style. It was about £30 from boots. Everyone comments how nice it is and it's very practical, wipe clean, loads of pockets. Sorry can't link as on my phone!

McPhee · 29/02/2012 20:36

Ooh thanks milkybrew, I'm a huge fan of Orla Kiely Grin

It's called tiny tillia pink tulip bag, if I remember correctly! HTH

I have this JJ Cole bag in this print. I really like it, it's very practical and I've had quite a few compliments on it.

foolserrand · 29/02/2012 21:20

Have you seen the babymoov bags? Maybe not your cup o tea, but I love.

bettybat · 29/02/2012 21:22

See this is what worries me...I'd have thought any kind of bag would do. Do changing bags have special compartments or something?

myhandslooksoold · 29/02/2012 21:26

For a real bit of luxury google lin & Leo. Leather changing bags that look and feel really good. I had mine for a year- really really loved it- then after a year I sold it on e bay for nearly £80!

myhandslooksoold · 29/02/2012 21:28

Ah sorry just re read your op- you want inexpensive. My suggestion isn't cheap although you can resell for good price on ebay

McPhee · 29/02/2012 21:35

bettybat, didn't you know people judge you by your changing bag Shock

Only joking Grin

I'd have thought any kind of bag would do, no? Clearly, I'm not ready for this bean growing inside Wink

Does a specific Changing Bag have special properties? I genuinely need to know - I was honestly just going to use a regular bag.

McPhee · 29/02/2012 22:40

I've got no flipping idea Blush

All I want is a nice looking one Grin Although it does need to have one of those little fold up changing mats in them. Baby change mats in stores always seem a bit yuck to me...hundreds of shitty bums on them Hmm

Betty you are correct in assuming any bag will do. A cheap changing mat and a bag with pockets will do the job just as well.

I got this Babymel satchel one in red, or can also get in navy, wasn't too expensive £40. It's got straps you can make bigger with velcro for attaching to the pram, and a change mat etc. Plus I thought It's not super mumsy, DH wouldn't look too out of place with it if he was out and about.... www.thatcuteage.com/p4641-Babymel-Satchel-RedWhite-Stripe?src=gBase

I love bags and changing bags are no exception!

With DD, I had a Cath Kidson one from John Lewis. I think it was about £60. It had a long extendable strap, so fit over the handles of the pushachir, wipe clean inside (very important, that), lots of pockets so that I knew where everything was and wasn't rummaging, a pocket on the outside (useful as then I could keep my keys, phone and purse and access them without opening the bag) and it came with a changing mat and a bottle insulator. These were less useful I found - the bottle insulator didn't keep a bottle very warm (though it did stop a leaky bottle leaking all over the bag) and the TT proper insulators were much better, and teh changing mat was incredibly bulky and so that didn't work for me. When the baby is small, and you're changing it outsode the home, the mat is the last think you put in your bag. If your bag is full, its harder to fit a bulky mat into ity, especially as you're probably doing this with one hand! Thhis time, I'm going to buy a mat separately that folds down - I've seen some in JoJos.

The CK bag was fab, but teh strap broke after 2 1/2 years of use, which I thought wasn't unreasonable.

This time round, I have bought a Mothercare bag which is virtually identical but for the print. Can't link from here, sorry, but its £45 (was 20% off last week when I bought it) and the print is white, pink, a bit of greenn and a bit of grey. I'm super pleased with it.

I will also get the freebie plain black changing bag free from Boots with its Parenting club.

I've got one from the babymel range, this one in fact www.babymel.co.uk/product.php?shopprodid=30

I love it! There are loads in the range bigger than this but I love all the pockets on this ( it seems very spacious), the buggy clips and the bottle insulation. I was bought this with a really lovely changing mat which folds to fit in the bag as well as a separate bottle warmer but i think the whole range is pretty cool. Material is very practical too. To be honest I didn't really want changing bag to be a fashion statement-just do the job. Prefer to have my own handbag when I want to 'show-off' :)

russetbella1000 · 01/03/2012 08:08

This is £22.50 btw... So great value imo...

brandysoakedbitch · 01/03/2012 08:14

God knows how I have managed to have four children and never had a changing bag. Nice big handbag and bung things inside - simple

I cannot ever imagine needing enough stuff with me to need a changing bag to be honest, I have no idea what people actually put in them.

PickleSarnie · 01/03/2012 08:51

Skiphop ones are good. And, more importantly, non-twee and your OH won't mind carrying them www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=skip+hop+changing&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=9029602625&ref=pd_sl_1r4ve7e6qa_b

babybouncer · 01/03/2012 08:56

I went through a few changing bags because I didn't really know what I needed until I started using it. I had a hopskip, but the outside wasn't wipe-clean and when I put things in the pockets, they sort of bulged into the main pocket so it actually wasn't very practical (but looked great!).

I ended up with a JujuBe secondhand from Ebay (about £40) which is wonderfully light, very washable and great for pockets etc. Can't recommend it enough! (like this Change Bag

Now DS is older I don't use it (although I will use again with DC2 in a few weeks), I have a large handbag with a hopskip mini-changer in it. This is brilliant - especially for DH to put in his rucksack when he takes DS out on his own as he can't stand carrying a shoulder bag. (like this: Pronto )
