mini chedders
ginger ale
a digestive b4 gettin out of bed
packet of crisps.

ooh and I had to eat a snack b4 10.30am as well to keep actually being sick at bay!

MissChief · 27/01/2006 09:56

plain, plain food = dry toeast, ginger biscuits, rice-cakes. Nothing smelly, try and have good stuff milk, protein & carb=laden stuff in the evening when you can face it better..

Flamesparrow · 27/01/2006 09:56

Sip at water

Sleep as often as humanly possible

Look at your diet to see if anything is triggering it... I was halfway through the last pregnancy before realising that sickness was worse/came back if I had milk, this time, I cut out most of my milk from day one, and it was sooo much better.

Ginger and lemon tea can help - its really weird to drink because it feels sort of hot and cold all at once, but if you can manage it, it does help.

Accupressure travel bands

Ice lollies - they will keep you hydrated, but there is only a little going down at at time - not proper drinking.

trice · 27/01/2006 09:58

I can only suggest that you go to bed and get up in two months time . I tried everything and nothing helped at all.

compo · 27/01/2006 10:00

I've been tryijng the biscuit thing and eating litle and often but straight after I've eaten I feel nauseous again. Tried the travel bands yesterday and they worked for a little while. I like the suggestion of goign to bed for 2 months!!

hate to say it but might not get better till u reach the end of 1st trimester so maybe some distraction tactics? great books/dvds when you're at home??

compo · 27/01/2006 10:03

aarrgghh! Got another 4 weeks to go before 12 week scan. Didn't feel this bad last time so dh is convinced we're having a girl.

ooh also I found couldn't eat anything heavy at all for the first 3 months it was small snacks and salads - the smell of fried food made me retch.

carbs seemed to help as well a plain jacket spud.

meowmix · 27/01/2006 10:07

Boil the kettle and put a slice of ginger and a slice of lemon in a cup. Fill the cup with boiling water and leave it by your bed overnight. SIP it first thing before you get out of bed.

Also if t-paste sets you off try switching to Sensodyne Gentle Whitening. It was the only toothpaste I could handle.

Anna's Ginger Thin biscuits and branflakes were my salvation.

Flamesparrow · 27/01/2006 10:08

Oooh, thinking of the toothpaste - get a child's sized toothbrush... it has a much smaller head and you are less likely to gag on it.

TinyGang · 27/01/2006 10:09

I had this terribly. I found smells could set it off too and make me feel sick. Almost as if my sense of smell was really highly tuned. I found really sharp lemon smelling things around me helped - even cut a lemon in half and have a sniff. I couldn't eat anything for months though.

Try and sip sports high energy drinks if you can.

thebecster · 27/01/2006 14:54

I've still got it at 22 wks - but don't worry most people are better after 14 wks! My top tips are...
Acupunture ? has definitely helped me more than anything else
Vitamin B6 ? 50mg per day
Foxes Glacier Mints ? to get blood sugar up and mask food smells etc. ? these are my secret weapon!
Sipping very, very cold water
Peppermint oil on a tissue to sniff ? good when out & about eg. sitting next to smelly people on the Tube )
Warm bath with anti-nausea bath oil (I think you can get it from mumstheword.com - but mines homemade - my aunt made some up for me 'cos she's an aromatherapist)
Salted crisps ? they were the only thing I could keep down at one point. Once I manage to get a few crisps down so I'm not retching anymore then I can experiment with ?proper? food
Eating 8-10 snacks a day instead of trying to eat meals ? I find high protein snacks work best, but some people find carbs better so worth experimenting
Giving up cow?s milk ? I never used to be lactose-intolerant, but I?ve found switching to soya milk & goats cheese has helped a lot (I carry goat's cheese babybels with me everywhere & eat one every time I feel the nausea starting to kick in)
Eating some toast in bed before getting up in the morning (my DH gets up to make it for me, god bless him!) - it?s best to eat something before trying to get up while you're still almost asleep ? as soon as you're properly awake the metabolism kicks in and the sickness tends to start
Ginger tea, ginger ale, soda water ? all of these helped me a bit, not much, but some people swear by them
Seaband acupressure wrist bands (from chemist or health food shop) ? also helped a bit. Not very attractive though...
If cleaning teeth is a problem (it is for me) try switching to a toothpaste which doesn?t foam as much and only using a tiny amount

Hope these help - I know EXACTLY how you feel...

lalaa · 27/01/2006 14:57

chewing gum

lalaa · 27/01/2006 14:58

fizzy drinks (preferably not very fizzy)
another one for crisps
dextrose tablet before you get out of bed in the morning
lots of little and often.

Ginger tea, peppermint or Camomile, or all 3 !!

Hate the taste of ginger, but it really worked for me.

I didn't just have morning sickness, I felt sick throughout much of the day for 1st 3 months !

Also avoided spicey foods and greasy foods. Both made me feel even more sick.

Good luck.

fairyglo · 28/01/2006 10:11

I've still got this at nearly 24 weeks. I've found salty foods (crisps, dousing everything with soya sauce etc) help me get down the food without being sick (still gagging at everything though ) but obviously the salt isn't a very healthy solution. Looking for other ideas myself.

poppiesinaline · 28/01/2006 11:13

LOL Thebectster. Salt and vinegar crisps helped me too! in preg no 3. I thought baby no 3 was going to come out holding a packet I ate to many!!!!

Ah poor u compo. Its rotten. Hope you feel better soon.

teacups · 28/01/2006 11:40

Poor you. Sympathise hugely. Things which helped me at various times were

wine gums
tonic water
diet coke
dry toast
rich tea biscuits
rennies
mints
carrying a carrier bag in my pocket in case I didn't make it to somewhere private (useful on bus and tube - only used it a couple of times, but knowing it was in my pocket helped me to calm down)

I lost 12lbs as I was so ill for the first 14 weeks but then I was fine. at about 12 weeks, the only thing which helped was sleep so the GP signed me off for a week. Not ideal if you have other children of course, but may be useful in the very short term.

Good luck and take care.

K7 · 28/01/2006 11:47

Walkers Sweet Chilli crisps worked for me. I used to lick the flavouring off - no idea why. Didn't even like them before I was pregnant but something in them used to stop the queasiness. Smells used to trigger me too - the unemptied bin, traffic fumes. Poor thing. It doesn't last for ever, although at the time if feels it will never end...

cull · 28/01/2006 12:03

things that helped me:
salted crisps
saltines (soda crackers with salt on them - see a trend?)
koolaid
couldn't stand the smell of chicken stock/soup which was great cause my dh took soup to work everyday! i couldn't go in the kitchen for an hour after he left!!
also found that bananas made it worse.

Gillian76 · 28/01/2006 12:29

Soda water helped me

hotmama · 28/01/2006 12:44

I found lemon and ginger tea helped - but not ginger biscuits. Also, those sea band accupressure things worn on the wrist - though a bit obvious if you aren't announcing your pregnancy yet!

I couldn't stand bland food, but also couldn't stand the smell of food at all - so I got dp to make the tea and I was just presented with the end result - and was then O.K. as long as it was flavoursome (note to self - why did I say I was O.K. so I could go back to making tea? [stupid icon])

olivo · 28/01/2006 13:14

salt and vinegar crisps, twigletts and cold mashed potato
also, fruit ice lollies

(luckily for my bean, I'm now eating a bit more healthily although i still have my moments!!)

poppiesinaline · 28/01/2006 13:18

PMSL at salted/salt and vinegar crisps! What is it about them!?
