don't know but I was like a wonman possessed if there were none in the house util a couple of weeks ago! i just HAD to have them!!

louloubelle · 28/01/2006 14:59

Oat cakes/biscuits, as bland as possible (Duchy organics were the ones that worked, or Nairns) carried everywhere and religiously eaten at least once every hour. I threw up til 28 weeks with my dd, and stopped at 22 weeks with this one (which is a boy). It was a little better this time, but forcing myself to eat little and often did cut down my throwing up from 8-10 times a day to 4-5 times. And when you can manage them, avocados were my sole source of vits and protein for a while!!

sylvev · 28/01/2006 15:48

Hi, I really sympathise, morning sickness was awful. With my first pregnancy I found bananas a real help, plus not letting myself get hungry, i'e nibbling throughout the day. (Despised the smell of onions cooking).
Second time, plain baked potatoes worked, obviously not as accessible but I used to take a couple of cold baked potatoes with me to work and nibble throughout the day. (Smelling certain pefumes helped me also, I was particularly fond of alliage, can't atand it now, though)
Also, both times, I found flat lemonade or flat coke brilliant.
This advice has either helped or sent you rushing off to the bathroom, i apologise if it's the latter. I did find it stopped for me after 12 weeks and then I felt like a normal human being again!

mrsbabookaloo · 28/01/2006 16:14

I totally sympathise: I am still in the stage where I'm so grateful it has stopped: I've been puke-free for about a month. I could stomach different things at different stages, but had a big phase on hot chocolate made properly with milk (I know a lot of people can't stomach milk, but it definitely made me feel stronger and less sick - the protein, I guess) and oranges, and at the end I gave up trying to eat anything "proper" for breakfast and just ate a bag of hula hoops before I got up in the morning. I agree with the poster who said that she thought her baby would come out with a bag of crisps in her hand - I'm afraid I might just give birth to a giant hula hoop! I got in a big panic if we ever ran out of hoops! Good luck, hope it passes soon...

pucca · 28/01/2006 16:17

This sounds really gross!! but it works for me, i am 11 weeks...as soon as i get up i have a cup of tea and some chocolate digestives (about 2 or 3) and dunk them lol, it must be the chocolate that does it, i don't know but it worked for me when ginger nuts etc didn't.

{smile]

pucca · 28/01/2006 16:18

Oh and lots and lots of mints throughout the day, i am on polo's atm.

EllaM · 28/01/2006 20:11

ginger extract cordial with soda water helped me but it tastes pretty awful. sleep was the only thing that really helped but it's not a very practical solution...

romilly · 28/01/2006 21:01

compo - poor you. its a nightmare. i was still being sick at 28 weeks - but dont worry, that is not the norm.

it really is trial and error on a weekly basis with bad m/s - you have to eat whatever you can face the occasional times you can face eating at all. with me it was fish fingers in the evenings. baked potatoes. sipping freezing cold water filled with loads of ice all day. someone mentioned hot chocolate - i found cold iced chocolate and milk drinks were sometimes good when i really couldnt eat anything - just to fill me up. i couldnt go near fruit/vegetables/salmon etc. ie. all the healthy stuff i normally love.

i also used an aromatherapy stick called MUTI from mumstheword.com which you put on your wrists to stop the nausea. and i used seabands. not sure if either helped but i used them anyway! at night i used AVENT morning sickness drops on my pillow, they help you sleep too.

good luck - i really feel for you - it is no fun but one day you really do wake up feeling better and that is one very happy day

sunnydelight · 29/01/2006 13:38

I was never sick with either of the boys but chucked EVERY day without fail with DD until she was born, so maybe your DH is right compo. I started the pregnancy with a near-phobia about being sick, but I had got over it 9 months later In the end I was able to projectile vomit into the loo, then finish brushing my teeth. Sorry if tmi!

dinny · 29/01/2006 13:41

poor you, Comp - I was sick till about 6 months with ds. the things that helped me (a bit) were citrus ice lollies, Polos (sometimes), wrist pressure bands and cherryade...
hope it goes soon.

bumbleweed · 29/01/2006 19:22

Totally sympathy - know exactly what you're going through - was sick from 2 months to 8 months.
Sucked sherbert lemons at all times!
People used to bring me a bag if they visited my house or call into my office at work with a bag.
Oh and mashed potato - not so easy to eat at work tho

anchovies · 29/01/2006 19:26

ice lollys and ritz crackers were the only thing that helped me

jpedwards76 · 29/01/2006 19:30

Oh poor Compo
I was sick from week6 - week26 but my condition was dignosed as Hyperemesis Gravidarium as I was hospitalised with dehydration 3/4 times throughout the pregnancy (She was a GIRL!!) I was given (Stemetil and Maxolon) suppositries and tablets from the consultant as I really couldnt keep even water down and my potassium levels were so low they thought I was going to have a cardiac arrest, so I had no choice! and there are no know side effects with these and dd is fine.
I tried everything under the sun also tried the MorningWell tape of music that you listen to (meant to be 98% effective)I agree carry mints, to moisten your mouth!

Surfermum · 29/01/2006 19:31

Nothing helped me, not even a prescription from my GP. I used to eat iced donuts because they tasted OK on the way up as well as on the way down. It did ease around 13 weeks though.

LemonTart · 29/01/2006 19:34

I sympathise. Used to pull over on the way to work to be sick out of my car window - I knew where all the laybys were on my route
Like others, I found little and often a help. If I had an empty stomach and felt hungry, I found that I was more likely to feel sick.
Used to keep a packet of plain digestives to nibble on and sip water.
I kept a packet of mints and bottle of water with me at all times so if out and about and had been sick I could suck a mint and feel a little fresher.
I found homemade ginger tea a help in mornings. Just grated fresh ginger into mug and maybe slice of lemon, boiling water, leave for a couple of mins, strain and drink.
Standing up quickly or rushing around made my sickness worse.

thirtysomething · 29/01/2006 19:38

Compo I felt even more sick with 2nd pregnancy after DS and went on to have a girl so there may be something in the old wive's tale! Definitly eat little and very often as if you get the slightest bit hungry or your blood sugar falls you will start to feel sick. Acupressure bands helped me as did either vit B6 or B12 - can't remember which one but there should be stuff on the net about that! Also keeping food as plain as possible and avoiding caffeine if you can. Some people say acupuncture can help. Good luck and remember it'll be worth it in the end!

beatie · 29/01/2006 19:44

You have my sympathy. I have two dd's and I had m/s far worse with dd2. For me, I felt like tiredness aggragavted the nausea more. If you can do nothing but rest in bed then that would be my advice.... but few people have that opportunity.

I suppose you find the food items which work for you but here are a few of the things I could stomach.

Sparkling Water
Dr Pepper
Yoghurt
Melon
Plain noodles
biscuits
Plain crisps - ready salted hula hoops
Boiled sweets

I had it from week 5 to week 14. It reached a peak somewhere inbetween and I was barely eating anything. DH started to give me a half a chocolate Complan in the morning before he left for work. It worked for me! It took away that empty feeling.

I wore seabands too.... for 8 weeks. I only dared take them off to shower. I'm sure they did nothing to help but I couldn't risk it being worse.

PeachyClair · 30/01/2006 11:51

I ended up on medication and being admitted to hospital, due to severe dehydration through sickness (hyperemesis Gravidarum). After I was well I joined a charity called blooming awful, and they ahve a great website with advice on. Some of the stories can be a bit upsetting but I went on to have two more children quite quickly (eldest was six last month, middle five tomorrow and youngest three in July). My last PG involved ahrdly any meds at all, I took lots with ds2 but stayed away from hospital which was my main aim.

the advice applies to all levels of sickness, not just mega:

Lysettes · 30/01/2006 14:15

am just at 10 weeks now and suffering - every time i eat!

little and often is a great tip; als addicted to murray mints

Dh has taken to making toast and marmite before I get up which is a life saver

Hope this helps

Adass · 30/01/2006 14:23

I agree with Trice go to bed for the next two months! Both my pregnancies where sicky though 1st was worse, lost 1/2 stone lucky not so bad I needed treatment like some stories here but crisps helped me as well as fresh still lemonade uhmmm loved that one, but generally I reckon that anything that you might fancy will help.

Hope you feel better soon and try and keep hydrated!

PeachyClair · 30/01/2006 16:47

Yes, eat whatever you fancy is a good tip- though if you can stomach it and have problems with water, melon, cucumber , letuce and ice pops are partciularly good. Remember that as mucg as you may suffer, your baby is unlikely to. Flat coke helps some (no idea why but worth a go), I uived off lucozade; and there is a huge link between tiredness and sickness. Sleep is GOOD!

paddyclamp · 30/01/2006 21:08

Compo i also think there's something in the old wives tale. Didn't have any sickness with DS but had all day nausea with this preg. According to 20 week scan we're having a girl this time! The only way i coed was keeping something in my stomach at all times, hula hoops and plain crisps were good, also shreddies! If it's any consolation the nausea eased off at 12 weeks and disappeared completely by 14!
