oh honey.
im so sorry you feel like this
i "cooked" mine for an extra 10 days
had induction no3 and ecs with no4

in the end labour is just a small part of life with your baby and holding them for the first time helped me not care how the last two got here, just glad they did safely

big hugs and best wishes

georgethecat · 16/02/2012 09:31

Ha, I am starting to feel the same way although not yet overdue, just more panicked that baby was measuring 42wks at 36wks, so I started 'eviction proceedings' at 37 weeks when considered full term.Lazy little blighter is determined to stay snug and grow into some guinness world record baby.

Reflexology had a really weird effect tho - have had it without problem for years & no major problems with this preg but in reflex this time, I nearly passed out and barfed on therapist about 5 times Confused.

Hang in there, its got to come out one day even if it does need persuading!

McQueasy · 16/02/2012 09:32

Thanks Smile
I know I'm being pathetic. I know that this is just a tiny part of it and I don't know why I'm so upset. Was watching OBEM last night thinking 'why am I so incapable of doing that myself'
It would be lovely to get to experience it, even just once.
Thanks for being lovely, am a hormonal greeting mess today Smile

You are not a failure! You have grown three lovely, healthy babies- pretty impressive if you ask me! xx

McQueasy · 16/02/2012 09:33

Georgetgecat, I have huge bruises in my legs from the reflexology induction Blush
Am to scared to go back for more!!!

Bless you! I know how you must be feeling!

DS2 was 21 days over term when he eventually arrived! I was induced with gels 5 times and then put on a drip and had waters broken and still didn't work properly! I delivered (if that's the right term to use?) with forceps and episiotomy with no proper contractions!!! very bizarre experience.

I'm not telling you this to alarm you, I'm sure it won't work out that way for you. I'm telling you because despite all that, (and being a beached whale for such a long time) my DS was born healthy and beautiful and is the best thing that ever happened in that respect.

Do what you have to do, soon you will have your baby. I feel no guilt anymore for not being a good enough mother in the labour stakes that doesn't count for anything...what matters is how I parent my children now they are in the world...and it's funny DS came so late as it taught me a bit about patience and I certainly need it as he does things in his own time and refuses to be rushed over anything!

Some things you can control others you can't. If you have done everything you can, then wait just a little bit longer...it will happen when the time is right.

Thinking of you and hope all goes well x

McQueasy · 16/02/2012 09:46

Sponkle, thankyou for sharing. Three weeks over?! You deserve a medal!!!
Glad your ds was ok, sounds terrifying.

I can't help but wonder what would have happened to me 60-70 years ago. Would I have been pregnant forever? Crazy to consider the alternative possibilities Sad

My mom was induced with all 3 of us. My eldest brother is 48 and she went 40+20 with him or brother 40+18 he's 44 and me 40+4 I'm 33. I went 40+14 with my ds so it might just run in the family. Your not a failure but I think I would like to experience going into labour naturally rather than walking into hospital pain free knowing what's about to happen.

Mikocat · 16/02/2012 10:34

Sorry to interrupt - can I just ask about the 'Walking like an Egyptian'? That's a new one on me! :) (And now I have that Bangles song stuck in my head)

shipsladyg · 16/02/2012 10:43

I went 40+19 by scan with DD before labour started. We tried everything Several times. I think in the end I just gave up & relaxed and that was what I needed to do.

I'm now 40+11 by scan or 40+13 by LMP with DS. I think I just cook 'em long and good. I'm prepared to go to +19 by scan again especially as "my dates" are a week behind as I have a longer cycle. It's a shame the hospital won't take the longer cycle into consideration. I know when DH got lucky on account that he'd been away a lot.

littlemissnormal · 16/02/2012 11:12

I totally sympathise and know exactly how you feel, was induced with DC1 and 2 which then took 3 days to get me started and the thought of it happening again this time really upsets me.
Have no idea what going into labour or waters breaking on their own feels like!
Was going to try acupuncture this time; reflexology didn't work for me. Waste of time you think?
I've been told its got something to do with the length of your cycle by a midwife who had to be induced with all 6 of hers!

McQueasy · 16/02/2012 17:28

Have to say the reflexology treatment was lovely. However the induction was bloody sore and just gave me braxton hicks for a few hours. I think if 'baby is ready to come' it would work.

As for walking like an Egyptian, it was from a birthing book that showed some manoeuvres for helping to get the babies head to engage and get in the right position for birth.
You have to kind of roll ur pelvis forward iyswim!!

Hello McQeasy. We're in the same boat, you and me.

Baby #1 I went to 40+21 and then agreed to an induction. Baby born 48 hours after induction started. Standard stuff - 2 x prostaglandin pessary, manual waters breaking, syntocin drip, episiotomy and forceps.

Baby #2 I went to 40+14 and then agreed to induction. Baby born 48 hours after induction started. Very similar to last time.

Now expecting baby#3. Due any time now. Obviously won't come out by itself though Hmm. I think I'll go to 40+10 this time and then go for induction. I might as well - it's 10 days of waiting followed by really hard induction, or 3 weeks of waiting followed by really hard induction.

I too wonder what might have happened if this had been 100 years ago. Hooray for modern medicine.

We'll both get there in the end. Chin up.

LittleMissGoodEnough · 16/02/2012 17:47

I think 60 years ago you might not have known your edd to such a degree of accuracy (no dating scans), so wouldn't be stressing about it until nearer 10 months!

Also more manual jobs typically, which would help move things along.

Ultimately though, probably more problems with the births as well Sad, so all in all induction probably not a bad thing (although don't ask me about my own experience, not pleasant!)

Clocks ticking, it won't be long whatever the method, and then you get to meet your lovely baby Smile

willitbe · 16/02/2012 20:00

McQueasy - you will want to hit me, but could not resist saying that you missed Evening primrose oil off your list of things you have tried...... !!!!! Only saying it as it worked for me, but that I know is the most unhelpful thing to say to anyone overdue!! Hope it happens quickly and easily for you when your labour does start.

luckysocks · 16/02/2012 20:57

You can't be a bad mummy - look how happy your babies are cooking inside you Grin

DS was just 8 days late and even I couldn't bear to be around me by then, so sending HUGE sympathy your way.

justhayley · 16/02/2012 21:09

Bless you, can't offer any words of wisdom as I'm only 29+5 with my first so have no idea what being late feels like. Don't feel like a failure - your amazing, your body has made a life from scratch - not once but 3 times Grin that in itself is an achievement! If you have to be induced then that's what you have to do - the most important thing is that your baby arrives and you are both safe happy and healthy Smile.
Try to relax and no that your baby is coming soon either way.

Good luck xx

littlemissnormal · 16/02/2012 21:33

Willitbe - do you drink the oil? Does it have the same effects as castor oil?

TinkerMaloo · 17/02/2012 09:17

We are not machines! We are not programmed to be pregnant for precisely 40 weeks...

You just cook them a little slower hun! some do it faster, some do it right about 40 weeks, its just an average!

I went 14 days over with my first and they dragged him out of me and he wasnt ready, he didnt even look a tiny bit overdue and the whole experience wasnt nice :( i wish i had told them just to leave us be!

willitbe · 18/02/2012 20:05

littlemissnormal - EPO is not like castor oil at all. It comes in capsules and ripens cervix, softens everything up down there. You take some orally and some internally. I saw details on the website on natural induction methods. Might be coincidence but the time I took it, it was the first time I did not tear, I think it worked excellently for softening everything up for me!!!

littlemissnormal · 18/02/2012 20:16

Thanks willitbe. Even if it doesn't work induction wise it has to be worth it for the non tear factor! Holland and Barrett here I come Wink

McQueasy · 18/02/2012 20:58

Thanks willitbe, am going to give it a go.
In tears tonight, soo uncomfy :(

Do you have a date for induction?

Chin up. Very nearly there now. You'll be holding your baby in a matter of days.
