What's good for morning sickness?

I'm sure the answer to this is already on here somewhere, but feel too ill to search. I'm nearly 14 weeks (dc2), and thought I'd got away lightly so far, but feeling really queasy today (not been sick yet, but feel like I might be). Am at work, at really need to get through the day. Any magic solutions?!

When pg with DD the MW told me to keep a Mars bar handy at all times, as morning sickness was generally to do with low blood sugar.

I took that to mean that I had been prescribed chocolate.

Most people will probably suggest something like ginger biscuits or a digestive. I've found chocolate has never failed me.

Eat little and often.

ThePetiteMummy · 30/01/2012 11:19

Thank you, prescription chocolate sounds good! Grin

Sleep and time! The less tired I was the better, and my sickness went after 15 weeks (this time, 12 and 13 weeks the two times before). I needed plain, stodgy, starchy food too - potatoes, toast - that kind of thing. Also boiled sweets - cherry drops were a favourite.

I'd go home sick if I were you. I always regretted not taking time off in early pregnancy - I was a total martyr and the odd day in bed would have done me the world of good.

melliebobs · 30/01/2012 12:19

I didn't have sickness but constant nausea. I just tried my best to eat little and often and listened to my body. If I wanted really salty chips from mcdonalds I had them. If I only wanted drycereal I had it. At about 16 weeks it subsided and went back to normal

aaahhhBump · 30/01/2012 12:20

30 weeks and still sick. Sleep and little and often. Cereal bars are good but honestly if some one tells me ginger biscuits one more time I will not be held accountable. :)x. Good luck. If it doesn't get better go to the doctors. No point being a martyr.

I'm always reluctant to add to these threads in case something I found helpful makes other people retch just reading about them! I found flavoured fizzy water a big big help at the beginning. Dp used to go and stock up on giant bottles of the stuff for me. That and any carbs. I had a love of anything slightly spicy and plouched through sweet chilli snack a jacks.

ThePetiteMummy · 30/01/2012 12:39

Thanks for the replies, interesting that sleep comes up more than once as a factor. I suspect that's part of my problem today, as I've been up at 6am for work 3 days in a row. Phlossie, I would love to go home early, but sadly I've got to see someone for a consultation this afternoon, so am a bit stuck. Luckily have an otherwise quiet day. Milliebobs, it's funny you mention McDonalds, I had a major craving for that the day before my bfp! Didn't go away until dh took me there, then not really had it since! Just tried to have a sandwich, but struggling, so think I'll just stick to sweet stuff.

Thanks again for the advice, fortunately I only work pt, so a few days to rest after today (22 month old dd permitting!)

jaccobs crackers worked for me. weird though i had really enjoyed mcdonalds fries when i was going through nausea

ThePetiteMummy · 30/01/2012 20:30

Thanks Keely, I've just munched my way through about 6! They were just what I needed. Was finally sick when I got off the train home, glad that didn't happen in the office. Yuk!

Childbirth cured mine.

Catsmamma · 30/01/2012 20:34

getting up very early...before it kicked in worked for me!

but that did mean going to bed at about half past four in the afternoon.

saltyair · 30/01/2012 20:36

Nothing. Nothing is good for it. It comes and goes then fecking well comes back again.

ThePetiteMummy · 30/01/2012 21:00

I guess that's the only one that's guaranteed to work Pascha! Nice idea Cats, but none of our household 'do' mornings, not even dd or the dogs! That's so true isn't it Salty, just when you think you feel ok, if creeps up on you.

Ahhh will, I guess there's a nice reward at the end of it! Smile

Grin seriously though, I had it the whole fecking time, it was just constant nausea and nothing relieved it for very long. The only thing which helped in the end was chewing gum continuously. I could have bought out Wrigley's by the end. I had my last piece on the way to hospital and never thought about it again.

EllenandBump · 30/01/2012 21:06

Pass it over to your other half.... my ex suffered even worse than i did, literally almost throwing up...for about 6months he looked like he had had a really good night out the following morning! Yet he hadnt (not every night anyway)

Catz1 · 30/01/2012 21:14

Fizzy water and MacD hamburgers (yes really!)

And when DD born at over 10lbs even midwife joked that I must have been eating lots of happy meals... Oh the shame!! Blush

Methe · 30/01/2012 21:17

Try seabands, they wrist acupressure things. They work magic with for me :)

ThePetiteMummy · 30/01/2012 21:36

Poor you Pascha, that sounds rotten. Funnily enough, I have found sucking polos has helped today a little. Ellen, that's serious sympathy from your dp, bless him! Catz, I'm afraid fizzy water turns my stomach at the best of times! Funny about the Happy meals though! That's a great idea Methe, thanks, hadn't thought of that one, worth a try!

I'm convinced it's blood sugar based and that only chocolate chip cookies do it. Babies need lots of cookies to grow up good and strong Grin.

ThePetiteMummy · 30/01/2012 21:45

I think you're onto something Sooty, none of this fruit malarky! Dd was grown almost exclusively from my penchant for a Starbucks hot chocolate!

Red meat, ginger and lemon tea, and constantly eating tangerines. By the bagful!

jaffacakehips · 30/01/2012 21:48

salt and vinegar crips or fish and chips!!!...something about the vinegar and morning sickness. It worked for me Grin

jaffacakehips · 30/01/2012 21:49

crisp even!

BikeRunSki · 30/01/2012 21:54

A hospital drip and two months off work worked in both pg.
BUT, joking aside, very cold tonic water and Mini Cheddars worked after the really severe phase had passed.
