I'm sure the answer to this is already on here somewhere, but feel too ill to search. I'm nearly 14 weeks (dc2), and thought I'd got away lightly so far, but feeling really queasy today (not been sick yet, but feel like I might be). Am at work, at really need to get through the day. Any magic solutions?!

Food. You probbly won't feel like cooking so fruit, cereal, anything easy, little and often. Hope you are feeling better soon.

knitterati · 30/01/2012 23:32

Cold Bottle & Green sparkling elderflower. That stuff did the trick for me!

CBear6 · 30/01/2012 23:49

MW told me to give in to cravings during the sickness phases. She had a theory that you crave the foods your body is willing to stomach, I did it and it worked (and I was seriously craving some manky foodstuffs).

With DS I felt sick from 6w to around 13w but was only actually sick once. With DD I was curled in a ball on the bathroom floor nearly every morning from 3w to 22w. Eating what you fancy really does help with the queasiness.

Little and often is good too, don't get overfull or over hungry, I just sort of constantly grazed like a big round cow.

Lemonade, just the cheap stuff, full sugar. The fizz helps settle the stomach and I always seemed to hang onto it better than plain water.

If you're taking a vitamin try taking it before bed instead of in the morning, it can sometimes kick start sickness.

Try birth, that usually works ! Grin

Dextrol energy tablets- orange or lemon flavour, sugar free polos and getting up slowly in the morning. Have something to nibble by the bed if you can stand it:)
I also found I was better the more rest I had. Always hard whe you have other DCs though:)- good luck

I had such bad MS last time, the only thing that helped me was getting cyclizine from the doctor :(

mammanetta · 31/01/2012 07:45

For very severe nausea, dry crackers by my bed which I nibbled before getting out of bed...then a big glass of warm water with a few slices of fresh ginger cut into it (then pour boiling water on top, like an infusion)...barely tasted of ginger at all and the nausea went in the bat of an eye - I sipped it all day.
If you like the taste of ginger, then any small sweet to suck that contain some ginger, or caramelised ginger too!
Peppermint good too - M&S has some old-fashioned tins of seriously minty mints...easy to carry 'round and taste great - contain real peppermint oil and this is proven to reduce nausea fast.
Good luck :)

Chocolate cake kept it at bay, once I started feeling nauseous I then moved onto polo mints and constanty sipping water. Not sugar free though: you need every bit of energy you can get in if you are being very sick.

thatboysmum · 31/01/2012 08:19

With my first DS I felt sick constantly so kept rich tea biscuits on me at all times, they really helped me. This time round I've only felt nauseous on a few occasions so far but again the biscuits have really helped.

Doc told me flat seven up instead of water (like a drip) and half a kitkat every half an hour. Your dentist may not be too happy though!
If gets really bad, I found Docs v unsympathetic - in fact, was told that if I was well enough to come to appointment, I was ok and there was nothing they could do. When I finally couldn't move without being sick and down a stone in weight, my husband got me down to A+E where admitted on a drip. Found the nurses there were more switched on to the misery of it (they saw it all all the time) and got me back to normal. Still bitter about that Doctor! :)

Marmite! Cheddars, dairylea and sparkling water all seem to help me. Fruit - especially expensive ones that aren't in season - strawberries, cherries and blueberries are good at keeping me happy with food to eat.

Keeping to simple light foods, like stir fries with ginger, salad and baked potatoes rather than curries.
Ginger biscuits and ginger tea are meant to work and I found putting a bit of cut up fresh ginger in sparkling water helped for a while.
Hope it gets better soon!

Tucs. Lovely beige saltiness.

phlossie · 31/01/2012 10:57

Yes! KateWinstanleyAcupuncture! How could I forget? I swore by travel sickness wrist bands - wore them 24-7.

Snowbeetle · 31/01/2012 11:00

I found bananas helped. :)

Snowbeetle · 31/01/2012 11:00

By eating them of course! Wink

WinkyWinkola · 31/01/2012 11:00

Doriano's crackers. Working a treat for me.

ThePetiteMummy · 31/01/2012 14:02

Thanks for all the tips, lots of good ideas to try. Snow, you mean the bananas didn't lend a sympathetic ear?! Thanks for the tip Kate, do you have to press on both arms at the same time?

Just had a happy meal, thinking the carbs would help. The chips worked a treat but the cheeseburger not so much..
Dairy is not my friend at the moment...

Snowbeetle · 31/01/2012 14:33

...well there was that one time at 4am when I was sat on the bottom stair rather nauseas and we (the banana and I) had a good chat then.... Grin

Hi ThePetiteMummy, you don't have to press on both arms at the same time - I just tried it and it's a bit tricky! Just massage one at at time for a few minutes with the thumb of your other hand, close your eyes and take some slow deep breaths.

The reason for the nausea is because the stomach energy is rising up so it might help to visualise your energy going down - think of your energy sinking down from your head and stomach and focus on your feet being rooted to the ground.

Good luck, let me know how you get on!

ThePetiteMummy · 31/01/2012 18:30

Hi, just thought I'd update. I contacted my consultant to see if he had any advice, and he said that urine infections can present in odd ways during pregnancy, and to get my urine checked by my practice nurse. So I've just been and done so, and turns out I have indeed got an infection! Been prescribed anti-biotics, so will hopefully feel better soon. Just thought others might be interested in this, as I certainly would never have thought this would be the cause. I haven't had any symptoms to suggest it would be.

I could only keep food down if I sipped lucozade during the day to keep my blood sugar up.
