Never eat apple when have morning sickness!!!

I'm pretty sure I nearly just died. Tmi but it comes up REALLY thick and lumpy, almost dry - barely any moisture at all - I'm home alone and kept really choking on it as it got stuck in throat and actually thinking 'omg I'm actually going to die on apple sick!!!!' My head's still throbbing from the sheer exertion it took to trowel it all up! :(

Oh well, that's another of the - very quickly dwindling number - of healthy foods I can still face eating gone. Poor baby must keep thinking 'really mum?!!!! starbucks frappuccino again?! I thought you said you loved me and promised lots of 'good stuff' today?!' In my defence I'm forcing down the horrible pregnacare horsepills every night, so surely baby should be ok... ?!

Oh no, just realised I also now have jaw-ache left over from apple-gate! Oh woe...

Urgh poor you! I did the same with toast once, I think it depends more on how long after eating you throw up rather than what you ate.

I read somewhere that apples are actually really good to eat when you're feeling sick as they are a natural anti-emetic. I hope you're feeling better soon!

Peasandyoghurt · 22/01/2012 11:13

My eyes are reading what you say Cute, but my pregnancy aversionometer is having none of it - apples are now the devil's work!

Sounds awful OP, I have done similar with milk, which if immediately regurgitated resembles lumps of mozarella cheese. Bleurgh.

Fruit aversion will most likely pass tho, I existed on carbs and cheese for most of the first trimester but am trying to make up for it now, ha ha!

lalabaloo · 22/01/2012 16:34

Apple is bad, I thought I was seriously ill after banana as it comes back up black, dairylea dunkers are an absolute no no, cheese comes back up first followed by dunkers, horrific!

tubtoes · 22/01/2012 16:40

You could try oranges? For some reason they went down ok with me, and pears peeled and sliced really really thinly to suck on. poor you, hope you're feeling better!

LoveInAColdClimate · 22/01/2012 16:43

Oh god, horrible memories. Yes, apple is bad. You poor thing. I found oranges cut into six or eight slices good to suck on.

Grumpla · 22/01/2012 16:52

This is why it's always a good idea to quickly down a glass of water when you feel the voms about to start.

Dilutes the acid so less damage to your teeth and throat and minimizing the terrible burn feeling at the back of your nose/throat. Also if you've only managed to eat a couple of bites it gives your stomach something to actually expel so you're not just dry-heaving into the bog wishing for death .

Sympathies.

Cutelittlecatlover · 22/01/2012 16:53

Yuck this is bringing back horrible memories! I'm so glad to be past the ms stage, I thought it would never end. I hope it soon passes for all of you Smile

dutchyoriginal · 22/01/2012 16:54

(homemade) applesauce might work? That's softer and more moist. Our pantry was overloaded with the stuff when I had allday morning sickness.

LoveInAColdClimate · 22/01/2012 17:05

I'm sure you have been inundated with "helpful" advice on foods you might try already (have you tried ginger biscuits Grin?) but the reasonably healthy things I found tolerable (leaving aside salt and vinegar crisps and sauasge rolls...) were:

Oat cakes.
Vegetable soups such as carrot and orange.
Orange slices.
Pears.
Grapes.
Smoothies... sometimes.

Just in case there's something there you haven't already tried...

LoveInAColdClimate · 22/01/2012 17:07

Oh, and if you're really desperate, try freezing fruit juices in ice cube trays - at least it's something to suck that at least contains some calories if you can't keep anything down.

Armi · 22/01/2012 17:34

I used to sip kiwi and lime Innocent smoothie from a glass filled mostly with ice to get some fruit into my system. Until my craving for pears kicked in, that is, and I ended up eating far more fruit than I thought possible.

Peasandyoghurt · 22/01/2012 17:38

Oh thanks so much everybody for your sympathy! Difficult to make dp - who is lovely - to understand just how horrible it is to feel like this all day every day - for 6 weeks now.

Can I do a quick survey for (hopefully!) reassurance - when did you find your morning all day sickness start to subside (if ever!)

I was advised it might go at 8-10 weeks as that's when the placenta takes over, but I'm now 12+1 and still going strong, in fact the last 3 weeks have been the worst yet...

LoveInACold - frozen fruit juices sounds just what I need, thanks for that! x

Mine went literally overnight at exactly 13 weeks. It was bliss. I hope yours does the same. Enjoy your juice cubes!

friedrice · 23/01/2012 07:43

Oh god... Apples. Never eat them with Pringles. Double the trouble when heaving over the toilet bowl. Euch. I definitely agree with advice to drink water before puking if at all possible. Try jelly too. Tastes great whether it's going down or up. Good luck.

missingmymarbles · 23/01/2012 07:53

i could manage apples. i only tried them because of their natural anti-emetic properties but they didn't work - i couldn't even swallow the bugger and through up as i chewed it. i also found weeks 9-13 the pinnacle of illness, i am 15 weeks now and it is starting to pass. i am still dry-heaving every morning, but only morning now and i am starting to feel generally better.

missingmymarbles · 23/01/2012 07:54

couldn't manage apples
and threw up not through up

Cutelittlecatlover · 23/01/2012 08:32

First time round it was not too bad and stopped completely at 11 weeks, this time I had it really bad until 16 weeks although it stopped being all day every day at about 14 weeks.

lalabaloo · 23/01/2012 08:36

Hopefully you won't have the same, but I am 25 weeks now and still being sick, but the worst of it was over by 18 weeks. Now I just puke, I don't have the horrific mind fog nausea all the time like before

thistlemuncher · 23/01/2012 09:16

Avoid mashed potato (I had the one that is flakes you mix with water/milk7butter). I thought I was going to choke to death aswell.

With DS it went around 16 weeks, with this one around 20

thefurryone · 23/01/2012 09:41

Don't worry too much about healthy eating, I basically ate cheese sandwiches for the first three months of pregnancy and it doesn't seem to have done DS any harm. Pregnancy lasts for ages and there will be plenty of time after you stop being sick to eat healthy food.

I started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel at 15 weeks when I stopped feeling sick constantly, although I did throw up after cleaning my teeth until about 25 weeks.

Hope you feel better soon.

ArtyJennie · 23/01/2012 10:09

Agree totally with the apple thing! I couldn't get enough of them in the 1st 7 weeks then suddenly I puked one up week 8- it was baaaad! I thought it was just bad luck so tried another one a few days later. NEVER again! lol.

I can't eat bananas now either- but at least they aren't as bad when they come back as apples.

The least offensive thing to spew is chocolate cake :)

Tip- My new found anti sickness thing is boiled mints.

LoveInAColdClimate · 23/01/2012 12:32

I found mashed potato ok, I think.

I also found sucking sherbert lemons helped...

BellaCB · 23/01/2012 12:35

Tomatoes and peppers were by far the worst for me, which was awful as pasta'n'sauce type dishes always appealed as something I thought I could eat, but then they came back.... oh, the acid...

LoveInAColdClimate · 23/01/2012 12:41

Adding my list of tolerable foods above, while not exactly healthy, I found I could manage vegetarian canneloni or vegetable lasagne ready meals, which had the advantage of not requiring me to prepare food. Reasonably nutritious when compared to Hula Hoops and soft to throw up.
