Hello all,

What do you think to this buggy? I had a Graco last time & it fell to pieces within a year!
I was told that although very expensive Mamas & Papas was a very good make to go with & well worth the money because they last & last. Is this true & do any of you mummys own one?

Thanks very much,

Leanne x

Gracos are rubbish.

I've had a few M&P buggies - a big 3 in 1 and 2 Plikos. They were great, felt reasonably well made, looked good and lasted well.

jersey · 16/01/2006 15:24

lilsbabies don't know about mamasandpapas but we had a graco which also fell to pieces, we now have a hauk which is very good and have just bought a Jane powertwin as expecting no 2 when ds will still need to be in a pram.

Hope this helps.

I have this pram in a Optic fabric it's a really good buugy that folds down easy, mine is 7 months old and good as new.
Also have a Mamas and Papas 3 wheeler, found it very bulky and heavy but perfect for long walks.

lilsbabies · 16/01/2006 15:34

lilsbabies · 16/01/2006 15:54

my friend has the Pilko Viaggio one - £250 I think - as she needed the full works with car seat and absolutely loves it. It folds compactly and stands up on end (unlike my lovely Maclaren Techno), is quick to put together, easy to clean, not too heavy, and goes on and on and on and on about how great it is (to be fair, she has only had it a few weeks..)
Based on her pov and seeing it in action, they are lovely and well made.
Personally only every had Maclaren Techno - didn?t bother with a pram and has lasted brilliantly.

Hazellnut · 16/01/2006 16:05

We have the pramette - used it solely for about 7 months and now still use it sometimes, and sometimes a lighter weight buggy. It has been great - the pram mode is brilliant to have when they are tiny and then the pushchair is very comfy in that mode (not that I've tried it but it looks comfy !). Also has a very big shopping basket. Would definitely recommend it - try looking around at places like pramworld and you might find it cheaper (this is where we got ours with £50 discount). Comes within a couple of days too and they are very friendly if you need to speak to them.

tonton · 17/01/2006 09:58

How is the Mamas & Papas pliko/pramette ssytem for travlleing? I have to go on a ryanair flight somewhere & they seen quite harsh about luggage. They are pretty big aren't they?

Hazellnut · 17/01/2006 10:17

I have not taken the pramette on a plane but I have friends who have and on ryan air so shouldnt' be a problem I wouldn't think.

dewberry1 · 17/01/2006 10:47

I have been looking at mamas and papas prams and 2/3 in 1s also..but wanted one that faced both ways when it was in pushchair mode..and found the buggy typr P3 (also A3) didnt do that...I have just ordered a bebe Confort Loola as it faces both ways and is the easiest pram i have seen..and iv seen a few..my last pram was a mamas and papas but a bit bulky and darling eh sold it when we divorced otherwise i would prob be using that...
anyone out there used a loola pram???

Gloworm · 17/01/2006 10:56

we bought a second-hand mamas and papas pram and 4 years later it is still in perfect working order, and we walk alot and have used it a lot. Also for the last 2 years we have used a buggy board with it, so it is really taking the weight of 2 children.
My brothers' girlfriends' sister has a similar pram and is now using it with her 5th child...thats around 9 years of constsnt use.

I would definatly reccommend mamas and papas, if you can afford it. Perhaps you could find a second hand one?
(I got an almost new looking mamas and papas high chair in a local charity shop for €1!!!)

Gloworm · 17/01/2006 11:49

have a look at this thread, another mumsnetter has a M&P pram for sale

here

tonton · 17/01/2006 14:13

Thanks Gloworm - only problem is 'collection from sheffield' - I live in London!

tonton · 17/01/2006 14:14

Gloworm, re yours and your borthers Mama & Papas systems, are they old ones with a carrycot and a separate pushchair attachment?

alexsmum · 17/01/2006 14:15

got a m and p p3- love it.nice and cosy.high handles(i'm tall) sturdy folds up easily. no complaints.

stephanie21 · 17/01/2006 14:16

ive got a mamas and papas pliko travel system in optic.i love it.also just recently bought an i'coo platon 3 wheeler for longwalks,as i found dd always complained if in the pliko too long!!

BonyM · 17/01/2006 14:18

lilsbabies - I had a pramette - it was lovely and I was very please with it. Have just sold it to a friend though as once dd2 got to the stage where she could no longer use it in pram mode, I realised that she and I would be both happier if she were facing me, so I've bought a rear-facing pram.

Lots of babies are quite happy to be front-facing though so this may not be an issue for you.

The car seat is fine too, however I have recently read the Which report on car seats and it doesn't rate terribly well (although tbh, the majority of seats don't, but that is because they're not tested to a very high level in this country).

Overall though, a great pram.

BonyM · 17/01/2006 14:20

Oh - we also flew with our pramette to the Seychelles - no problems at all.

chicagomum · 17/01/2006 14:24

Lilsbabies - we've had a M&P pliko for 4 years now. It has lasted extremely well. One added point, last year when crossing a road a slow moving van hit the pushchair with 6 month old inside, turning it over and pushing it a few feet along the road. DD didn't have a scratch on him, and that was all the pushchair had (nothing broken and still worked fine). Makes me think that they are pretty well made.

newkid · 17/01/2006 14:36

Had Pliko that have now loaned to someone. Was good, but wouldn't buy it again. Now use a Maclaren Quest. If I had to do it over again, I would:

a) get a Maclaren Techno, which is useable from birth, but isn't so bulky
b) get a non Mamas and Papas car seat. My DD always looked v uncomfortable in her M&P carseat. The maxi cosi ones look good. You could then also get the funky Quinny Zapp as the maxi cosi car seats snap into the Zapp frame.
c)if you are planning on having more than one fairly quickly, maybe a phil&ted's. Everyone I know with a second child has now bought one of these.

lilsbabies · 17/01/2006 14:56

Wow, thanks for all the feedback peeps! It all seems to be positive feedback. I most definitely think that I will be going to get one pretty soon!
It sounds as if most of you loved your M&P buggies which is fantastic news for me.

Thanks soooooo much everyone.
