Hello all,

What do you think to this buggy? I had a Graco last time & it fell to pieces within a year!
I was told that although very expensive Mamas & Papas was a very good make to go with & well worth the money because they last & last. Is this true & do any of you mummys own one?

Thanks very much,

Leanne x

sorry to add on this when I haven't read the rest of the thread so dont know what else has been said.

All my friends have been really positive about the actual M & P prams but the Which report someone put on here lately criticised their car seats as being among the least safe, so if you are thinking of getting a travel system as well you might like to read their report first before you decide.

me23 · 17/01/2006 19:03

I have the pramette in optic, got it from pramworld for £100 cheaper than rrp. I have just changed it to pushchair mode as dd is 7 months now, I find it great for me, it's lightweight easy to push, and looks very fashionable too!

Tinker · 17/01/2006 19:05

Any views on the Aria? For a baby who is now 8 months. Half price on that link further down.

vickiyumyum · 17/01/2006 19:18

i had a pliko p3 for ds2 that was fantastic, we took it on every holiday with us, so it went ia train, plane and car and always arrived in perfect condition. the seat unit always got filthy as ds2 got older and i just used to take it out in the back garden hose it down, give it a good scrub and leave to dry and it was as good as new. i was absolutley gutted when my car was broken into and it was stolen, so i brought a maclaren techno instead, which although more practical for an older child, i didn't like as much.
the only thing for me personally is that i don't like the carseat 9nothing to do with which report), i don't like it becasue i feel it is too upright and don't feel that the in car base really lived up to expectation as you still have to thread seat belt through the back of the seat.

with no3 i have gone for a mamas and papas 3in1 (signature) which is on the smaller mpx chassis and was a bargain in the sale at half price so only £230! this one i liked because it has a proper carrycot and then a seperate seat unit that can face either way thisone but smaller chassis and have brought a maxi cosi cabrio car seat as this is a 'nicer' car seat without the pointless base (although they now do isofix bases)and it was on special offer in my local baby shop at 2/3 the price of the mamas and papas one.

oops sorry realise i have been rambling on. m&p can be great buggies, but try and buy from another shop, john lewis, etc as m&p customer service is appalling, notorious for delays in delivering and being rubbish at repairing.

tonton · 18/01/2006 09:54

Vickyyumyum, that 3in1 'signature' looks just like the M&P set I've been lent, with the carrycot etc. I think it's great although it won't be much use for travelling, planes etc. The only problem is, the basket seems to have gone and I've no idea where to get one from.

tassis · 18/01/2006 10:21

vickyumyum, sorry for being a bit dense, but are you saying that the maxi cosi car sear fits on the MPX base??

vickiyumyum · 19/01/2006 12:38

sorry if not clear. no the maxi cosi doesn't fit on the mpx or any m&p base. we went for it becasue it has better reviews than the primo viaggio and i don't use a travel system as i dislike the idea of a baby in a car seat for any longer than necessary.

when i just re-read it i realised that it wasn't clear

tonton- i beleive that you canbuy replacement baskets form m&p direct, you call the customer services line, tell them what chassis you have and they will let you know if they have them and how much they are.
agree not great for travelling, but i know from experience that when the baby gets to about a year old i will be buying something like a maclaren stroller type buggy, and i thought that it looked really nice.

kate100 · 19/01/2006 13:00

I've had 2 M&P's prams, I had a Freestyler for DS1 with a car seat, but with the car seat on it was very heavy to push and I wasn't that impressed with the car seat. I thought it was too upright as well. But the pushchair was great very sturdy and comfy looking, it had 3 years of use and is still in good condition.

I've had a pramette for ds2 and it's even better than the freestyler. It folds up compactly and it's nice to have a tiny baby facing you and it's not too big so they don't look lost in it. If you decide on a M&P buggy ask for a demo in the shop before you buy as the staff are very knowledgable about the products, even if you then buy it from soemwhere cheaper like I did.

Tinker · 19/01/2006 14:17

Views on the Aria anyone? Please.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 19/01/2006 14:23

Tinker - the TWIN ARIA is FABBO.... Love it. www.kiddicare.com/invt/bugsnugfmsappizpupbutfyery light, easy to push. A friend has the single version, and it is a really good buy as far as i can see.... i want a single one for when Jess starts walking more!

Tinker · 19/01/2006 14:25

Thank you JARM. May just get it, keep fannying about looking at lighter pushchairs but that is such a bargain may just be devil and go for it.

Anyone else??

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 19/01/2006 14:27

ooops - really should preview - bloody kids!!!

Obviously ignore that link bit!!

Bozza · 19/01/2006 14:29

Well my Graco is still going strong after 5 years (albeit with 1 of those in the loft). And I thought I was rough on pushchairs!

TinCan · 19/01/2006 15:12

Tinker - I was looking at the Aria, but following a lot of research have decided against it. Aparently it's major flaws are that the sun shade is useless and not big enough, is does not come with a rain canopy, need 2 hands to fold, and the basket cannot be accessed when the chair is in the full recline position. It is, however, nice and lightweight. It's probably worth considering as a 2nd stroller, but I haven't been convinced that it is a good primary stroller. Amazon.com (the US site) has a lot of customer reviews on it for your reading pleasure!

Tinker · 19/01/2006 15:36

Thanks for that TinCan. Hmmm, a lot hate it don't they? Have an Urban Detour atm and people rave about that but I hate it. Grrr, so bored looking for one that isn't hugely expensive.

TinCan · 19/01/2006 15:39

Tinker - I share your woes...I'm very good at deciding what strollers I don't want, but can't decide on which one I do want! I think they all have their good & bad points.

AnnaK · 20/01/2006 13:22

I was given a M&P Pram that also had a chair attachmetn for the chassis. The Pram bit was fab as we also used it as a Moses basket for about 4 months. However, when it came to the chair bit, I just found the whole thing to bulky. I also have a Maclaren Techno, which can be used from birth, and I don't understand why people don't just invest in something like this. Much cheaper, much smaller when folded, good shopping basket etc. (I also have a Phil & Ted E3 also No 2 is on the way!! so the pram will be a Moses basket and will be got rid of as soon as that is no longer required.)

blueshoes · 20/01/2006 23:04

Tincan, are you referring to the twin or single Aria? If single, I guess different strokes ... No experience with the double. Would absolutely recommend it. I don't see how the sunshade can get any bigger, hmmm, what are you comparing it against? It comes with a custom raincover for a separate charge. I can access the basket in the full recline by bending a bit more - but that is no hardship. Yes, you need 2 hands to fold - but never found that to be an issue.

I can't think of a more perfect buggy to go from a baby to toddler. The best thing is I can just unzip the sides and my toddler can sleep flat in it. It is incredibly light and I can haul it in and out of boot easily. It integrates with the Prima Viaggio carseat to be a travel system. It is robust (lasted my abuse for 2.5 years) and adaptable. Never needed a second buggy. Well, JMO

sweetkitty · 21/01/2006 21:59

Just been looking through new Argos catalogue, they have a single Aria, plus raincover, changing bag and footmuff for £100!

blueshoes · 21/01/2006 22:06

Yep, the best thing is that the Aria is easy on the pocket. Those of my contemporaries who shelled out hundreds for Quinnys etc have to get a second lighter stroller when their babies turned into toddlers or for holiday. I have put my Aria on a plane and away we go. My dd is still in it. It's fantastic. I don't know why I keep posting about this - but I am passionate about it, being the one baby thing I bought which was spot-on and indispensible.

zhouqi · 23/01/2006 16:17

A lot talk about M&P, has anyone here got a Stokke Xplory ?
I really like the idea of baby sitting higher, although it is quite expensive and we'd not yet tried one out.

We are expecting our first baby in May.

Josie

mrsbabookaloo · 04/04/2006 20:22

Hi, all you pram and pushchair experts. We're pretty decided on getting an M&P pramette, and this might sound silly, but when you've got it in pram mode and the baby is tiny and lying flat in it, it seems weird to me that you put the baby right down straight onto the fabric of the pushchair. Especially when there'll be plenty of dribble and puke I expect. What I'm thinking is that in a carrycot or traditional pram, you actually have sheets - I think - so did anybody have a problem with this, or find a good way round it, or am I just being anal...it was my mum who pointed this out, by the way!

I'm highly recommend M &P. With DD1, I had a Pliko P3 and it is still in use today. It is fab. I do also have a M & P Pulse which is also great. My Mum and I swap the two between us.

This time, I am going to get another P3 or similar but one that comes with a mypod as my one grumble about last time was that my DD was forward facing from birth and I did not like that. (Like someone else, I also did not buy the car seat because I had not heard good stuff about them, and also do not like to see babies in car seats for prolonged periods of time).

But I have found my M&P stuff to remain in great condition and there are some excellent features on them, like the rainhood zips up so is a perfect fit, the drinks holder is invaluable etc etc

sfxmum · 04/04/2006 20:38

very happy with the pliko pramette, feels solid and we have used off road too 10 months on still great looks good too imo.
the covers can be wased, comes with good raincover and cosytoes folds easily, but not while handling baby too of course
