How stupid am I?????? I'm almost 36 weeks and it has only just sunk in. I'm having a baby! Don't get me wrong, we have the nursery furniture, the clothes, the pram etc. We know it's a girl and we have settled on a name. This is a planned and much wanted pregnancy.

BUT, I'm having a baby! To take home from the hospital! She will live in our flat! And stay! For a very long time! I've only held a baby once in the last 17 years and that was for a few minutes! I've never changed a nappy!

I think I'm having a panic attack or something!

Well done! I had that moment when they started putting the little clothes on the radiator to warm them when I was about to give birth. They bought in the crib thing on wheels and I thought-OMG there will be a baby in there in a minute that will have come out of ME. Grin

saladcreamwitheverything · 08/01/2012 14:53

Haha I'm 40+2 with my first and it's still surreal to me too! Don't think I'll believe it til I'm actually holding him/her (although the labour might be a wake up call so I'm told!)

All the best Grin

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2012 14:53

By the way I did it all over again, they are 9 and 12 now and still living with us. Shock

McPhee · 08/01/2012 14:54

I can't wait to hit that sudden realisation. I'm only 14 weeks, adjusted by recent scan, and even though we're buying things and I've seen baby on the screen, I haven't really made that connection yet Blush

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 08/01/2012 14:55

Me too, 30 weeks with my third, we put up the cot this week and it's just dawning on me. Both dc have been almost 2 weeks overdue and tbh I was resigned to it, like i just knew they would be, but I;ve had the feeling for a while now that this one might be early, which makes me even more paniced! Love the name btw saladcream, I've been less than impressed by the foods that have been doing it fo rme for a couple of weeks (chilli and scotch egg overkill) and it came to me in the supermarket that salad cream is what I am missing. Have been eating it with everything Blush

DaenerysTargaryen · 08/01/2012 14:56

ahhh bless

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2012 14:57

How much was it adjusted by?

MrsLister · 08/01/2012 14:59

Hahaha - this post really made me smile

Grin
MrsHuxtable · 08/01/2012 15:00

Will I just know what to do with her when she's here? What if she doesn't like me? What if I suck as a mum?

Are there any videos on youtube about this? They have videos on anything,, no?????

I thought at the time of the scan I was 15+1, but according to measurements I was 13+6 Blush

I've always been rubbish at maths Grin. So that now makes me 14+2....i think Hmm Due on the 6th July anyway.

LoveInAColdClimate · 08/01/2012 15:04

30 weeks and also can't really believe that the kicking, squirming bump really contains a real live baby for whom I will be responsible for ever. I am only 31, surely I am far too young to have a baby Grin.

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2012 15:04

It's all guesswork IMO McPhee. They said DS1 was 2 weeks early but according to my dates he was on time. They said DS2 was born on his due date but there was no way he could have been conceived when their dates said, he so obviously wasn't cooked. Grin

When they moved DS1's due date backwards at the 12 week scan I cried. Sad

McPhee · 08/01/2012 15:07

Aww sparkling, I felt like crying, but only because I'm now worried my parents will be away on holiday Sad

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2012 15:10

I would keep your dates in mind, they will probably be accurate. I was also upset that it meant I would have to leave work later.

McPhee · 08/01/2012 15:12

Damn, I've not thought of that Hmm

Sorry for hijack Grin

QueenPodling · 08/01/2012 15:15

Grin at MrsHuxtable. That feeling only started going away for me when DS was around 6 months I think. Until then, every now and then I'd be doing something else like washing dishes and my mind would be on something else, then he'd make a little peep from behind me and I'd think: OMG, there's a baby! And it's mine!
Whole thing was very surreal.

kiasport · 08/01/2012 15:15

I am [jealous] of you all.

Awwww, this thread actually made me a bit teary. I am so broody at the moment. Good luck MrsHuxtable, just remember everyone is as clueless about their own baby as you are about yours! You'll be fine :)

McPhee · 08/01/2012 15:19

My baby will slide out with a cough

notcitrus · 08/01/2012 15:25

I'm 34 weeks with my second and just been hit with the same feeling!

It's been a crap pregnancy so I'm hoping birth and the newborn stage will be easier this time...
Picking up a cot tonight which makes it seem more real (ds is 3.4 and very happy in his cotbed, so need another)

MrsHuxtable · 08/01/2012 15:26

Whaaaatttt??? You don't just breathe the baby out???? Wink

DS2 sort of did McPhee. I had the flu and think he was sick of the coughing. Got to hospital and had him 35 minutes later.

saladcreamwitheverything · 08/01/2012 15:26

McPhee, this is what my 'D'H says about me? Glad it's not just me who's got a bucket fanny Wink
