Where does one actually purchase giant cheap knickers and button fronted nighties for after the birth?

Has anyone seen them in Primark or anywhere similarly cheap? Ours, from what I can see through the sea of Christmas shoppers, doesn't seem to do big knickers (it's more focused on unpleasant synthetic thongs...) or nighties other than t shirt style ones, which will be tricky to hoick boobs out of or do skin to skin, I would have thought.

M&S does do some big knickers - are this sort the kind of thing I am meant to be buying? I am going to be dead sexy Grin.

M&S do also have some nighties ( this sort ) but I resent paying £25 for something I don't like and will probably bleed all over. Plus I'll presumably need several of them so will cost quite a bit at £25 a pop. Was hoping to find something a bit cheaper really.

Has anyone managed to find something suitable recently that the shops would still have in (or better still, might have in the sales?).

TIA.

Mothercare for breastfeeding nighties. They come up very big but they do the job. Come in packs of 2.

Crosshair · 19/12/2011 16:55

I got a decent shirt style nightie from bhs for about £16.

VikingLady · 19/12/2011 16:56

Primark do have some massive pants cheap. They are in the multi-packs, 4 pairs for £2.50 for plain black. I've stocked up!

LoveInASnowyClimate · 19/12/2011 16:57

Oooh, thanks, bubble. Do you mean [[http://www.mothercare.com/Pack-Maternity-Sleeve-T-Shirt-Nightdresses/dp/B005LBE2DY?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_6&nodeId=42797041&sr=1-6&qid=1324313711&pf_rd_r=0J9FPFJJXKX8HADHAWFK&pf_rd_m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=42797041&pf_rd_p=231490867&pf_rd_s=related-tab-3-5 this sort]? They look lovely and comfy.

Another query - with the Big Knickers, how much bigger in terms of label size should they actually be, given that I will no longer be pregnant but will need to be able to get a maternity pad the size of a mattress in there? Thanks.

Sorry, x posts. Hadn't thought of BHS, will try there. Will brave Primark again after Christmas, when hopefully it's a bit less busy...

Also, link fail above - Mothercare .

Asda- cotton boy short style in plain black, I think a 5 pack was about £3? I'm a 12, but bought the 16-18 and they were perfect. Smile

DeeOfTheNorthPole · 19/12/2011 16:59

I've just bought some from Tesco - packs of 4 knickers for three quid and then just bought some nighties in a big size for £6 each.

MrsHende · 19/12/2011 16:59

I got my pants from tesco, in a size up from what I was wearing. I also struggled with a nightie! I ended up getting a cheap t-shirt style that I just yanked up! To be honest, I'd go for black pj bottoms (asda have some for £8 with a roll over waistband which i kept unrolled over my section dressing) and spaghetti strap vest tops (tesco have thermal ones with adjustable straps) and just pull the top down. That's what I'm still wearing in bed now 5 weeks later!

LoveInASnowyClimate · 19/12/2011 17:03

Ah, hadn't thought of supermarkets (I tend to go to a little supermarket near home so always forget the big ones sell things other than food!). Thanks.

I'm an 8-10 when not pregnant, so perhaps 14-16 is a good bet to squeeze in my deflated post-birth tummy and the giant pads?

Thanks.

I got Asda Pants pack of 6, cotton and black, probably not the best quality but don't really care!! I am having c/s so need big ones to cover scar so got size 18, I'm usually a 14.

I also got a massive nightie size 20-22, (Blue nose bear design - Confused not my usual style remotely!!) but it does have buttons down the front to boob level. Was about £12 I think.

PotteringAlong · 19/12/2011 17:13

I got primark button front nighties for £4 each which were fine and used mothercare disposable pants which were also fine!

Got some brushed cotton pj's from primark too which were fab when my catheter came out!

pot39 · 19/12/2011 17:16

BOught enormous size 16 pants ( called briefs!!) from M&S 12 years ago when ds decided to be a caesarian. Still going strong.

Blieve you me there will be times when you want them even after kids are tolddlers.

flowerflo · 19/12/2011 17:18

I got all mine from Primark last week. Pants in black - normal ones, big granny pants and some shorts style stretchy ones. Also got some nighties - various designs (not very sexy), but T-shirt style with buttons down to boob level so I hope they will be ok. Also got some long sleeved tops in the nightwear section with front buttons which were nice and some very thin but stretchy pyjama bottoms. I'm usually a size 10 but bought 12-14 in everything and it fitted well (with enough room for massive pads!).

Meglet · 19/12/2011 17:19

This was 3 years ago but I bought Primark button down nighties and stomach control pants when I had DD.

MyRealName · 19/12/2011 17:21

Matalan is good for nighties and very cheap. I'm normally a PJs girl, but I bought 4 nighties and was glad I did.

RitaMorgan · 19/12/2011 17:23

I got mine from Primark - a pack of black cotton "Full Briefs" for a couple of quid and a couple of t-shirt type nighties with a button front, all in a size bigger. The Primark pants were cheaper than a pack of disposable knickers!

SleepyCaz · 19/12/2011 17:24

I got both the big knickers and the button from nighties from Asda. With both DC's :)

LoveInASnowyClimate · 19/12/2011 17:25

Brilliant, thanks, all - lots of great options for me to try. I am going to be so alluring in my giant knickers and milk-stained nighties Grin.

I bought my nighties from Peacocks last time, it was summer range so was a bit cheaper than on here. Some button fronts and cheapish I also just bought pants in the size up from my normal, my preferred being short type ones. I didn't ruin anything by bleeding everywhere like I thought I would either.

Cinders22 · 19/12/2011 17:29

I got the nightwear and pants all from Asda, cheap enough to throw away afterwards. I also agree with suggestion for some pyjamas as well, I struggled with the button fastening nightie as my boobs got so big at the end that breast feeding was impossible in the nightie. Fortunately I had bought some cheap pyjamas, cotton bottoms with a t shirt top, which was much easier.

hippysair · 19/12/2011 17:29

Hi, I bought some nighties today, for my hospital bag. From peacocks, 6 pound each, with popper type buttons down the front, enough to expose breast for bf. As for undies, supermarket cheapo multipack, big enough for you to comfortably wear, (as comfortably as poss, that is!) mattress sized sanitary towels, so obv not thongs.

LoveInASnowyClimate · 19/12/2011 17:33

I had a look in Peacocks but ours seems to have stopped doing nightwear (I think the branch may be closing down so perhaps they are reducing stock).

Good tip re getting a variety of styles in case one doesn't work for BF, rather than ending up with eight identically unsuitable nighties. I think I also need to remember that the shops won't actually shut when the baby arrives so I can always send DH or a friend out for some more nighties/knickers after the birth if I have some kind of nightwear crisis!

I was recommended these John Lewis pants for late pg and early stages...not very sexy, but exceedingly comfy. Very generous too, so went down a size and they're still fitting my 36wk bump, with plenty of stretch left. There's also plenty of room to accomodate maternity pads (have had some leaking so have worn a few).

I ened up opting for pjs and vest tops (easily hoiked down ones for BF) as I also found a shocking lack of anything that wasn't massively frumpy, stupidly expensive or I just wasn't going to get my rather ample rack out, of for my hospital bag (LO's still in there), OR didn't have some fucking irritating bear holding a heart or a bunny hugging something ARGGGHHHHHH!!!! I'm not 6 FFS...
Nowt like being stood in M&S changing rooms hoiking their nightwear about to see if you can easily deploy a bap!

lemniscate · 19/12/2011 22:08

Those M&S knickers you linked to are great - I bought 2 packs of those, chucked the worst stained knickers rather than attempting to wash them. Had about 5 or 6 pairs left and put them away for DC2. They did the job perfectly. It's a good job I was feeling in no way sexy though, because they are the least sexy thing I have ever worn in my life!

Mothercare bf nighties are great.

pootlebug · 19/12/2011 22:36

Asda for cheapy big pants. I am a size 10 and pretty sure I bought 12-14.
I have had two children and never worn a nightie - I am a pyjamas girl. It never occurred to me until reading this thread that perhaps I ought to have bought a nightie Confused and even now that I have read this thread I still don't understand what the nightie-rather-than-pyjamas rationale might be.
