Is it usual for the baby's kicks to actually be uncomfortable?

Am 27 weeks and for the first time the kicking has become uncomfortable - not exactly painful but not that nice! Am assuming this is totally usual? TIA.

Yes - perfectly normal. Both of mine used to go for my ribs then turn round and boot a nerve near the cervix - ouch!

likelucklove · 15/12/2011 22:30

Was just coming on to ask the same thing! Totally sympathize but it just means they're having fun in there because it's so lovely Xmas Grin

I didn't experience this with my first 2 but boy, did I get a good kicking from dc3! I remember being doubled up with the harshness of it sometimes. I think I posted on here about it at the time (years ago now) asking if the baby might be distressed or something. But no, it's perfectly normal.

LoveInAColdClimate · 15/12/2011 22:32

Oh good! I was a bit worried that either he was distressed or that I was a giant wimp who would never cope with the birth! Yes, feels as if he's kicking my cervix Hmm. Thanks, everyone.

Yup. I got a transverse baby so get it all in my hips and reeeeally low down

notcitrus · 15/12/2011 23:02

I actually checked with the MW today that it's not actually possible for dc2 to kick her way out through my cervix! (30 weeks).
Dc1 wriggled constantly - dc2 pauses, then stands on my cervix and practises kickboxing!

HollyPockett · 16/12/2011 08:49

Me too! I'm 23 weeks and while I still get the flutters I also get a boot really low down that makes me wince a bit. And still another 4 months to go Smile

LoveInAColdClimate · 16/12/2011 08:50

Glad it's not just me! We are clearly all growing very strong babies!

I keep on getting kicked in the ribs, some times so hard that my boss just stares at me oddly because I'm keep on bouncing and patting my tummy. Also, once I nearly fell off the sofa :o

roonilwazlib · 16/12/2011 11:08

Dc 1 was quite sedate and moved very gently where as Dc 2 made quite large and stretching movements. To be honest, I ended up in tears quite a few times and sometimes felt a bit sick with the stretching, pushing her limbs back in as I found it quite painful. Didn't think it was possible.

AlpinePony · 16/12/2011 11:14

I'm so glad you posted this as I feel such a freak when people talk about the lovely little kicks they receive. Hmm

Both my boys (I'm 31 weeks) have had me cry out in pain and/or wish for them to stop because it hurts so much. I know, I know, look on the bright side - at least they're moving.

*Another thing I add to the list of "how the fuck could you not know you were pregnant?" Wink

CinderellaSweepsUp · 16/12/2011 11:18

Yes, I went to see the King's Speech when I was pregnant last year and actually let out a bit of a yell during a poignant quiet moment as I got such an unexpected kick in the ribs! My husband could often see him kicking from across the room and would ouch in sympathy Xmas Grin

He is a long baby now he's here and obviously needed to stretch his legs!

LoveInAColdClimate · 16/12/2011 11:45

Lovely little kicks my arse Grin. We are clearly all breeding rugby players!

I asked both my mum and MIL about kicks. My mum said that she could barely feel me, like a little mouse but, MIL warned me that DP was a kicker sigh...

SausageWrappedInBaconSmuggler · 16/12/2011 13:07

Yep - especially if they get in a really comfortable position for a few days. The designated 'kick spot' gets very sore. I think DS left a groove in my uterus as this one seems to have snuggled into exactly the same space.

brettgirl2 · 16/12/2011 15:04

The cervix thing is just agony - nothing like walking down the street and screaming in pain!!!!

MiauMau · 16/12/2011 15:06

Then DS must be very comfortable he's been kicking the same spot for weeks!

dreamfeeder · 16/12/2011 16:09

I am having twins, so am bigger already, but at 22 weeks I'm already getting some uncomfortably strong kicks!!

BelleRomford74 · 16/12/2011 18:23

Oh glad Im not the only 1... I often find myself jumping out of my skin at some of the large kicks (they seem to come out of the blue)!! Have let out a few "whoo" & "ooooo" type noises in public!!!!....but boy oh boy the low kicks.. they hurt!!!

wasabipeanut · 16/12/2011 20:33

All normal. DS used to kick the living daylights out of me when in utero. He remains a whirlwind of energy as a 4 year old Grin I remember yelping in pain on the train or in the office when he would randomly land one in my ribs. We witnessed some spectacular fireworks at a very posh wedding we went to when I was about 7 months.

Big mistake.

staylucky · 16/12/2011 21:10

DS was a footling breech, head up feet down, and esp during the last few weeks he would kick me constantly when walking about. Being kicked in the cervix is not very nice Shock

kiki22 · 17/12/2011 12:30

I've been getting it in the ribs and diaphragm! i'm freaking DP out with all the sudden yelps and sharp intakes of breathe he spends his whole time saying 'u ok?' think it's putting him on edge hehe

CailinDana · 17/12/2011 12:35

God yeah. I would spend half the time pushing DS's legs down out of my ribs. He just kicked and kicked my diaphragm and it was so uncomfortable. In fact I was getting broody until I saw a very pregnant friend of mine do the same pushing down thing the other day and it brought it all back - cured me quick smart for about ten minutes.

mrsshears · 17/12/2011 12:36

Dd2 used to hurt, her kicks were so strong. She was really long (56cm) and 9lb 7oz which i think was a factor too.

LoveInAColdClimate · 10/01/2012 20:14

Wow, the kicks are actually shaking my whole body! How fricking strong is the baby going to be?! Am I breeding a superhero?
