Opaque maternity tights that don't fall down!

Do such things exist? I have bought a selection of the Emma Jane ones (£6-£8 a pair) from JoJo Maman Bebe and they all fall down and I end up with the gusset half way down my thighs and wrinkles at the knees and ankles a la Nora Batty.

Any recommendations please? I am refusing to pay Spanx prices! Anything around the £7 a pair mark would be fine, but I suppose I would pay more if the tights lasted well. I have tried buying a bigger size in normal tights and opushing them down to my hiops, or even cutting the front panel out, but they're too long for me at 5 foot 1 inch, and so they still end up wrnking down my legs.

As is the answer to all 'where do I find this maternity item?' - H&M. Spot on! Stay up and very black (I hate being able to see my skin through tights)

NorthernGirlie · 23/11/2011 10:04

Yip - I second H&M - wearing theirs now - they're quite generous size wise though!!

KatAndKit · 23/11/2011 10:32

Another tip to keep your tights up is to put another pair of pants on over the top of them. A la Superman! I learnt this at the young age of 8, and although it is not a good look, it is fairly effective.

abeautifulbutterfly · 23/11/2011 10:37

I have had this problem all the way through this pg (in previous ones I wore dungarees but they seem to have been wiped of the face of the earth in the interim) and my solution is to wear a long vest/top of some sort tucked into the tights (also works for crappy falling-down mat trousers) and the friction of the two materials keeps them up. In fact I am now 7+mths and some of my non-mat tights even stay up this way too. Hey presto!

melliebobs · 23/11/2011 14:35

i was in urgent need of a pair of tights last weekend. Could not find maternity tights for love nor money and ended up getting a pair from Florence & Fred at Tesco for £5/6. Got them once size bigger than i needed, the stay up but i have to fold the waist band below my bump if you will. It was a tight emergency and worked fine!

M and s do good maternity tights

NorthernChinchilla · 23/11/2011 18:55

Second Amor- I can't stand tight things round my waist at the best of times so bought M&S' 40 den. hold ups. Work really well, and are surprisingly comfy.

You also get the benefit of feeling slightly slutty, should you want to Wink

Another vote for H&M here too. Their leggings are great as well.

HidingInTheUndergrowth · 23/11/2011 20:26

I have one pair of maternity tights but then found that I can just wear normal tights under my belly with a bump band over the top which holds them up really well.

monkeypuzzeltree · 23/11/2011 21:10

When pregnant with DD, I managed to trash a pair of maternity tights while at work and I had to go to an event, marvelous, where do you get maternity tights in the city, nearest shop to the tube was New Look, had never been in before, was pretty sure I was too old for it, but right in the middle of the city it had a maternity dept! Best tights I had, cheap as chips, range of colours!

PieMistress · 23/11/2011 21:19

I just bought supermarket tights in one/two/three sizes bigger as my bump grew! :)

Raerae12 · 24/11/2011 10:03

Never thought I'd say it but Asda maternity tights are really good - and only £4 a pair! Plus the waistband is really soft so doesn't dig in!!

theidsalright · 24/11/2011 10:14

I don't usually like mothercare but their maternity opaques are very comfy, over the bump, very black and £8. They don't fall down on me.

LaurenLaverne · 24/11/2011 10:31

Another vote for the H and M ones! I also bought some ASOS one but the crotch keeps ending up round my knees, hopefully they might stay up better when my bump gets a bit bigger!

LankyLegs · 24/11/2011 11:33

The M&S ones are pretty good - have been wearing mine since 17 weeks and they are a million times better than the Jojo Mama ones.....

Torila · 24/11/2011 11:42

M&S autograph make opaque hold up stockings - they are fantastic in pregnancy, an absolute godsend, they are £10 a pair but seem to last very well - and as an added bonus they actually look sexy!

HappyAsEyeAm · 05/12/2011 09:24

Thanks for all the suggestions - the best I have now found by far are the H&M ones for £7.99. I absolutely love them - soft, warm and they stay up all day no bother! Great recommendation.

I recently had a baby early this year and found a great little company on the internet called PebbleUK, they stock all different types of maternity tights from opaque to sheer, and even do footless!!

Emmiedarling · 20/09/2012 15:36

I have worn maternity tights throughout my entire pregnancy (I don't do trousers) and I have tried ALL the brands. From this extensive research I can honestly say that M&S ones are way out in front. Emma Janes ate terrible!

MyNameIsSuz · 20/09/2012 15:40

Yet another vote for h&m! But I wanted to share my top tip for stopping them falling down - wear a nice soft vest top underneath your clothes and pull them up over the top of it. They'll grip the material and won't budge, and it will feel nicer on your tummy too (or maybe it's just me with the sorest bellybutton in all the world).

PurplePidjin · 20/09/2012 15:58

Love my Mothercare ones, got 2 pairs of dark grey for £2 each in the sale and they're the comfiest thing i own (that isn't pyjamas)

CorrinaCorrina · 20/09/2012 18:20

Another vote for Mothercare. Got brilliant grey and black opaques there that stay up no probs.

LauraPalmer · 20/09/2012 18:32

I just bought a really lovely super opaque pair (100 denier) from Seraphine. Well worth every penny as I hate 'see-through' tights. These also stay up. Double bonus, pow!

TheTermagantToaster · 20/09/2012 19:02

I hate my H&M ones. Just to throw a spanner in there :o.
