Who says they're not?

Jacksmania · 15/11/2011 02:38

I'm not pregnant but when I was, I was usually rather quiet on the swings.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 15/11/2011 02:38

Why aren't pregnant women allowed on swings?

I don't know? Why aren't pregnant women allowed on swings?

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 15/11/2011 02:38

Jacksmania · 15/11/2011 02:41

lol was just at the park with dd, was on a swing next to dd (36weeks preg) and two women were having a rather loud conversation (obviously so i could hear) on how preg women arnt aloud on swings and they never wanted their un born child at risk so always did everything by the books etc etc

they quite pissed me off so just thought i would ask if the MN jury new anything about this

Ach, ignore them, unless you have some reason to be concerned?

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 15/11/2011 02:48

"The books" btw change anually, that which was ok 10 or 20 years ago is now outragrous.

Jacksmania · 15/11/2011 02:57

WTF "not allowed on swings" - why? Are they afraid that a pregnant woman might bust the chains on the swing?

Sounds like bollocks to me.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 15/11/2011 05:02

Well, to be quite frank, I'd say their born children are at risk - poor kids with mothers like that Grin

youtalkintome · 15/11/2011 08:09

Oh I was on the swings in the park the other day and am 38 weeks, what a load of crap. People have odd ideas. My mum thought pregnant women weren't allowed to raise their arms above their heads in case the baby tied a knot in it's own cord. This woman is doing a PhD Confused.

youtalkintome · 15/11/2011 08:10

I love the idea though that someone thought it important enought to write "and when pregnant thou must not go on the swings".

Sparklingbrook · 15/11/2011 08:16

I must have done lots of arm raising. DS1 born with big knot in his cord. Didn't go on any swings though.

ragged · 15/11/2011 08:19

Swinging really high & jumping off at the pinnacle might be unadvisable....
but otherwise a load of codswallop, for sure.

iarebaboon · 15/11/2011 08:26

I went on a swing the day after my due date. DD was born
6 hours later. You have been warned.

LoveBeingAFirework · 15/11/2011 08:36

I'd quite like to know exactly which book specifically says pg women are not allowed on swings Grin

Sparklingbrook · 15/11/2011 08:44

Are see-saws allowed do you think?

youtalkintome · 15/11/2011 08:48

iare don't say that the parks will be filled with women 38 weeks+ hogging the swings.

LoveInAColdClimate · 15/11/2011 08:55

What a total load of shite. I think we are safe to ignore that particular nugget of wisdom...

esandi · 15/11/2011 08:58

LOL what? I was on a swing last Sunday when my two were at the park and the roundabout!. I also had a small glass of wine at my brother in laws wedding !!!!! *SHOCK!!! :P

pruney1977 · 15/11/2011 10:36

My mother went on a carousel at 8 months pregnant with me and had to get them to stop the ride because she thought it was sending her into labour - now that I can understand but swings!?!
Although perhaps it might be an idea when I'm term and want to get the baby out, I could swing it out!

LoveInAColdClimate · 15/11/2011 10:38

I rather fancy a nice relaxing swing now...

Catsycat · 15/11/2011 10:40

This is hilarious - made my day (OK, my day is likely to consist of toilet cleaning etc, but nevertheless). I wonder which medical school those women went to????

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 15/11/2011 10:52

Maybe they wanted to use the swings, and were trying to 'scaremonger' you off them?

Crosshair · 15/11/2011 10:52

I bet she wanted the swing for herself!
