It's going to REALLY hurt isn't it

God, why would you do that? Just why?

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 14/11/2011 13:04

I did this last pregnancy - it didn't hurt any more than usual, but it was quite odd having someone up that close and personal and then the baby kicking inches from where she was working...

GobblersKnob · 14/11/2011 13:13

No, it won't hurt that much, but regrowth through possible stitches will be a bastard.

Can't you get your oh or best friend to give you a trim?

Pastabee · 14/11/2011 13:28

I haven't found high bikini wax hurts anymore in pregnancy than normal. I think it depends on how used you are to it in the first place.

Xiaoxiong · 14/11/2011 13:32

Gobblers I'm 37+3 and was considering a brazilian (first time for everything) precisely because I thought it might be better to be bare down there in case I needed any stitches!! Have just been putting it off because I haven't been able to see anything down there for weeks and am a bit Blush to go in with what feels like a small rhododendron forest.

Do you think au naturel/trimmed is better for stitches?

LordAlconleighsEntrenchingTool · 14/11/2011 13:34

You are nuts.

If you fancy being bare down there just slap some Veet on your foof.

Colliecollie · 14/11/2011 13:38

I don't like like the whole have a brazilian for childbirth thing. If that's what you normally have, then why change. But why have one just for birth/stitches.

notnowbernard · 14/11/2011 13:42

mental idea

Xiaoxiong · 14/11/2011 13:43

collie I thought the stitches might heal better on bare skin? Perhaps this is too much watching of medical dramas on TV where they shave where they're going to stitch post-surgery!!

Would be very happy to be told that this is total bollocks.

sazzermol · 14/11/2011 13:43

I'm a once a quarter girl normally but also thought it would be a much better 'environment' for stitches etc should the need arrive. Hopefully the regrowth will be just enough to not interfere with anything as potentially have another 4-6wks to go til D-Day. The pink cheeks when she sees the forest down there are another matter entirely!

The last thing you need is itchy regrowth when you have lochia, potentially stitches, a screaming new born, inflamed breasts, piles and a bloody partridge in a pear tree.

Why do that to yourself?

katz · 14/11/2011 13:45

My stitches were no where near anywhere hairy after a normal delivery.

notnowbernard · 14/11/2011 13:45

midwives look at fannys of every description all day and every day of their working lives

they're not going to Blush at a flash of bush

GobblersKnob · 14/11/2011 13:46

Tyelperion, there is no need to be bare when stiched, god knows they managed to fight their way through the undergrowth twice to sew me up.

If you are usually waxed then fine, but I really wouldn't get it done especially.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 14/11/2011 13:52

You should be fine. I always take a couple of paracetomol before hand which helps.

I am planning to have the usual done a couple of weeks beforehand. xx

Colliecollie · 14/11/2011 14:04

The current advice for healthcare staff is to NOT shave women for surgery AFAIK, due to shaving causing more hygiene problems. Don't know about waxing, but presumably healthcare never did wax anyone!

No idea about healing, except my stitches (x2 DCs) and non-stitched minor tear (1 DC) all healed just fine au naturel.

Iggly · 14/11/2011 14:08

I had a boring bikini wax when pregnant last time. Never again as came up with a horrid red rash that took ages to go. I was about 28 weeks.

You could end up with regrowth as Lord so eloquently describes Grin so consider getting it trimmed instead.

I grew a forest and I didn't have any issues with stitches etc (third degree tear). But having the regrowth itching would have driven me mental.

biglips · 14/11/2011 14:10

isnt it when youre pg, your skin is more sensitive??

Iggly · 14/11/2011 14:20

Yes def in my case big. hence only trying a normal wax with no venturing towards the Brazilian area.

morethemerrier · 14/11/2011 14:36
Confused

(Shudders at the thought)

Xiaoxiong · 14/11/2011 14:43

Oh thank god, thank god. DH will be dragooned into giving me a trim and I will leave it at that. Thank you for the wise advice collie and gobblers.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 14/11/2011 14:45

Saying that the plan might well change I had promised myself when I was pregnant I would work out everyday as usual (that lasted 2 days) and only eat healty healthy food. Well that went out the window when I realised the sausage rolls helped morning sickness. Also planned on wearing heals up to the birth, in flats as we speak at 16 weeks. : )

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 14/11/2011 14:47

I normally get brazilians and have booked in for normal bikini wax this week (39weeks!), am only not going for brazilian because it has hurt like buggery more than normal while pregnant

Personally I do it because after bleeding for weeks after birth it's much easier to keep bare skin clean and hygenic than a bush, I get way less regrowth and ingrowing hairs than shaving or creams (creams are a nightmare for ingrowing hairs) and it doesn't itch when it grows back

thegingerone · 14/11/2011 15:46

I just got clever with a mirror and some scissors! I'm not naturally very hairy so this is the first time I've bothered to do any pre labour prep on my lady garden. My previous stiches weren't anywhere near any bushy bits and I wanted to have regular lavender/tea tree baths so lochia/hair wasn't a concern TBH.

I would suspect to answer your question that your skin might be a bit more sensitive.

pregnantmimi · 14/11/2011 15:51

arrrrr im 35 weeks and going for a hollywood on wednesday the hair is annoying me so much itchy I hate having hair there plus its easyer to clean with al the blood after birth. Let me know how you get on
