Stretch & Sweep

I am booked in for a stretch and sweep in about 2 and a half weeks, and quite frankly, i'm terrified!

I'm hoping that i will go into labour naturally before then but if not, does it hurt as much as people say??

And if you have previously had one, how long did it take for you to go into labour?

No, the contractions were going mad! I put on the TENS machine and now they seem to have gone! Argh! They were awful, I couldn't breathe- come back pains!

SpicyMeatball · 13/11/2011 20:41

Ah i see, i weren't sure if i was being thick haha!
Do you have to wait until they are close together before phoning the hospital?

I hope they start up again soon for you! When they do.. don't do anything, just let them develop!! Haha.

Thanks! They got MUCH worse and down to 3 mins apart and now seem to have eased off again, which at the moment I'm just grateful for. Still got TENS on, it's from heaven! Spoke to CMW who said to ring back when I feel I can't cope or want to be examined (home birth planned so hopefully not going anywhere).

It's funny, having spoken to the MW I've realised it's less to do with getting her round and more to do with the baby coming out! Sounds daft but somehow it's a revelation!

Thanks for the messages :)

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 13/11/2011 22:45

Ooh, good luck crackpot You can do it ! Grin Come on baby crackpot !! Smile

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 13/11/2011 22:50

Get that MW round if you want her there - you can tell her they've been 3 mins apart. Doesn't sound so good waiting til you can't cope Hmm
( My DSis ended up having her 3rd without the HCP's - Just her DS (17) in the house. But all was well - she even had her in the bath !! )

SpicyMeatball · 13/11/2011 22:55

Good luck local! I'll be thinking of you tonight!
Hope everything goes well, i'll check back in the morning Thanks Grin

Thank you! Thank you! I meant to say, I realise I don't need the MW for anything at the moment. If I can get a few minutes asleep in this chair between contractions it'll be a bonus, but while it hurts I'm MNing to distract myself. And praising the person who thought of TENS machines. The contractions have gone irregular again anyway so we'll see...
Thanks

esandi · 14/11/2011 09:34

I had an induction with my first baby (ended up having an emergency C) after a day of pessaries. the midwife came and gave me a sweep, problem was she did not 'tell me' she was going to give me one and I almost took a swing at her when she did as it ruddy hurt. :P

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 14/11/2011 09:35

Hmm, very bad practice I'd say Sad

Pastabee · 14/11/2011 09:38

Ooo. local I do hope you've had your baby.

Woke up with period type pain this morning which has moved into my back now. It's not very painful at all though so I'm not optimistic that it's doing much.

SpicyMeatball · 14/11/2011 11:11

Local, i hope you've had your baby too Grin!

I had pains all last night, felt like dull period type pains but nothing has come of it, think i might be coming out in sympathy with the rest of you Grin!

As you all are in the end stages of pregnancy i thought i would ask here..

For the past hour i have been having dull pains and alot of pressure really low down, also my stomach keeps tightening up when i'm having these pains.
They have been coming every 3-5 minutes. Also pain around my back and right down my legs.

Does this just sound like braxton hicks or could it be real??

Flisspaps · 15/11/2011 19:32

Hello! Just a quick wave. Sorry to run off for so long. It was indeed labour- baby Crackpot sleeps on my chest as I type and Mr Crackpot to my right :) bliss.
I had a homebirth as planned thanks to the support of an OUTSTANDING community midwifery team. Not without issues as it took about 12hrs so they had to keep trying new things to move the baby as she was very low for a long time, came out a little grey & quiet but a quick rub with a towel and she was screaming the place down :)
I was more of a hassle as I tore (2nd deg only, but in various directions) then bled like a tap so they rushed me into hospital -only 4 mins ish away - ambulance men couldn't get a pulse or vein for cannula (finding my veins is always a work of high art achievable by the rate few...) so flashing lights & excitement, genuinely a team of about 15 working on me when I got there, blood transfusion, into theatre for suturing... I haven't mentioned so far my abject, abject terror of hospitals. I was going into theatre praying, convinced I was going to die! The team in hospital were also utterly amazing. I have no words for the care I received. They were SO kind and SO competent, like the CMW team.
We were in there two full days (one overnight), back yesterday. DH -always a man in a billion- has turned out to be no.1 dad as well as everything else. I am sore, worn out, ALIVE and very, very happy. I'm working out whom I need to write to if I want to ensure all these fantastic people have bosses who understand how good they are. So far I've got the Midwifery Council, the PCT, the local paper... If anyone can advise me please let me know if I've missed the right people to tell (apart from the people themselves of course, I'll do that too).

If anyone's thinking about moving to Oldham while pregnant, based on my experiences I'd say do it now! I had NO idea that anything medical could be so positive. When they kept offering me a debriefing at the hospital because it had been so traumatic for me at first, I had to say I didn't need it - an incident which could have killed me led to me losing my fear of medicine!

I wish you all fantastic (although hopefully less dramatic!) births Thanks Grin

showtunesgirl · 17/11/2011 02:32

Wow, what an epic! Glad you're ok now though. :o
