I am getting a bit freaked out now, we were told at our 22 weeks scan that we were having a girl but all along i have thought we are having a boy & still do, on the other hand dp thinks it is defo a girl.

I have painted the room pink & brought many many girls clothes i know i should not have done but could not resist........

So how many of you have been told one & then found it was the other?

I was told she was 85% sure it was a girl is this high?? oh please say yes.

We were told 90% chance of a girl and she was. I know I am obsessed with the string test thing but it really does work so try it.

Tie some cotton to a ring or needle and hold over your bump. If it swings in a circle it is a girl and a straight line means a boy.

Just a bit of fun.

I've never heard of anyone getting it wrong. All my friends who have been told it is a girl are only told 85% though. I was told 100% girl with my dd but that was at 40 weeks and she's a girl. With this db I fully expected it to be a girl, I was adamant. Had the scan last week and an incredibly obvious dangling huge willy and pair of balls, the sonographer said it was definitely 100%.

I'll swap you my girls name for a good boys one. I've fallen in love with about 5 girls names and do not have a single boys one, but I did love going to the Next sale this week and buying lots of blue (keeping the receipts though just in case!)

sweetkitty · 01/01/2006 14:10

Was told DD was a girl at 23 weeks and she was.

The sonographer at the 20 week scan was less than forthcoming (was a right old cow) and said it looked female but she couldn't be sure. We had a 4D scan at 27 weeks and the sonographer was 99% certain it was a girl. We could see her hamburger clearly!!

But until I see her I still have my doubts too, haven't decorated her nursery and most of her clothes are DDs anyway so not bought much brand new. With DD I went pink mad but kept the receipts. If a willy did pop out we wouldn't care although he would have to wear pink for a few days. Have always had a boys name picked just hope one day we get a boy to use it.

Tegan, your friend sounds completely, er, bizarre.

I didn't ask. But got the sex wrong anyway on arrival, thanks to the effects of gas and air. I still think it's perfectly understandable to mistake swollen labia for testicles

Mum2OneAndBump · 01/01/2006 14:18

Thanks for sharing all experiences, it does not sound to to common.

thehockeyandtheivy - I know what you mean by the next sale i done that too, i mean how could i resist

As for holding off on the pink it's a bit late now as i seem to have brought it all apart from the cot bedding & curtains for the nursery, good thing is my pushchair & car seat are neutral colours so could be for girl or boy! Just the clothes really but i will sell them on here or ebay if it does happen.

HumphreysCorner - I am going to try the cotton suggestion my MIL has been telling me to do this for months & i had forgotten all about it, i will let you know what happens........

Whatever happens as long as our baby arrives safe & healthy i really do not careless if it has a willy or a vagina lol

Oh & yes what am i going to change my name too?? Would like something different.........

We were told that we were expecting a girl at my 20 week scan, which did throw me as my intuition, as well as my hopes if I'm honest, was that I was carrying a boy. However the scan was definitely wrong as I have a 4 year old bundle of testosterone charging around my house today.

With ds2 they said it was 80% likely that he was a boy at the 12 week scan, and also indicated that he was a boy at the 20 weeks scan.

Please ignore my grammar and punctuation - frantically multi-tasking therefore doing everything below par!

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 01/01/2006 15:20

I have a friend who was told her second child was "definitely a girl"..........cue family buying lots of pink, DD arrived - and out came a little boy !

Salsa · 01/01/2006 16:01

I was told I was having a girl. At about 8 months I was taken into hospital with pains. It turned out to be nothing serious except they did another scan and yes you have guessed it was a boy. I hadn't bought anything but my family had. All the pink went back to the shops.
We had a girls name and not a boys name etc. It was a shock but there you go. We now have a dd aswell.

HumphreysCorner · 01/01/2006 21:50

Excellemt news!

Charlee · 01/01/2006 21:55

I was scanned weekly with ds when i waspg, and up until i was 38 weeks i was told, 'oh yes its a girl'

so we got the pink, we called bump Phoebe ect ect.

Then on my last scan before i was induced, i asked for the sex again as i had a feeling i was having a boy and the scanner said.

'oh my! thats a huge scrotum! deffantly a boy!'

LOL! i rang dp at work and said,

'darling your little girl has grown something she shouldnt have.'

So he went from a Phoebe to a Jack, but i kind knew anyway.

Milgestoe · 01/01/2006 21:58

Didn't happen to me, but i have a friend who was told her second child was a girl, painted the room pink, i gave her all my dd's baby clothes, she stencilled "isabelle" above the cot, and promptly gave birth to a boy ( who had to sleep in pink clothes in a pink room for the first week or so). Hes now a very well adjusted 2 year old!

blondehelen · 01/01/2006 22:06

i was in hospital with someone who was told she was having a girl. I went into her room the day after her c-section and her baby was all dressed in blue! Didn't quite know what to say! Saying that was told mine was a boy and he was!! Still didn't buy any blue stuff though.

HumphreysCorner · 02/01/2006 15:59

I am defintely sticking to lemon, green and white even though I am finding out the sex again. Didn't buy anything pink even though I knew DD was going to be a girl.

Our hospital has a policy of not telling you from the scan (they will if you have to have an amnio) because there are too many cases of parents being told the wrong sex. I think the cases of babies being rejected by the mother as a result is just so, so sad.

Wallace · 02/01/2006 16:23

LOL at "oh my! thats a huge scrotum!"

sugarbaby · 04/01/2006 16:20

our local hospital has been sued twice by parents who were told the wrong sex. now when they send out ultrasound appointments they make it very clear that it is not 100% possible to identify the sex of the baby.

I also think that parents who reject their babies because of the sex is so sad. My mother used to work at a doctors surgery, and she was telling me that a couple there wanted an ultrasound to determine the sex of their baby, and that if it was a girl they wanted a termination, and they wanted the NHS to pay for it!

People like that don't deserve any children at all

I was told I was going to have a girl at both scans.

I was lying there on the operating bed having an emergency C section when all of a sudden they proclaimed "It's a boy" - I almost fell off the bed

Enid · 04/01/2006 17:21

mt - she was expecting a girk?

wow
