I am getting a bit freaked out now, we were told at our 22 weeks scan that we were having a girl but all along i have thought we are having a boy & still do, on the other hand dp thinks it is defo a girl.

I have painted the room pink & brought many many girls clothes i know i should not have done but could not resist........

So how many of you have been told one & then found it was the other?

I was told she was 85% sure it was a girl is this high?? oh please say yes.

i would hate it if that happened to me. Did you already have the nursery decorated and that, tamba?

starlover · 31/12/2005 21:25

TambaTheDragonSlayersDayOff · 31/12/2005 21:25

TambaTheDragonSlayersDayOff · 31/12/2005 21:26

We didnt bother asking on my second pregnancy...

blondie82 · 31/12/2005 21:31

i wanted to find out becaus it was my first, so i could get everything ready before she got here. but i think whenever we have another one i would like it to be a surprise..

hunkermunker · 31/12/2005 21:31

This is why we've had surprises both times - and I prefer neutral colours too

Mum2OneAndBump · 31/12/2005 21:32

Right only thing i can do now is hope the midwife (who i am seeing on thursday) send me for another scan, they thought my baby was breech but i am pretty sure it has turned but maybe i should play on the fact that is would put my mind at rest if i could see for sure & also to check weight of baby??

hunkermunker · 31/12/2005 21:33

They may well not be able to tell this late on though - I've had some late scans and asked not to find out, only to be told they can't usually see when the baby's this big.

Mum2OneAndBump · 31/12/2005 21:35

I had a late csan with ds & thats when they told me 100% sure he was a boy.....

I suppose i should wait, god i am inpatient

A friend of mine had scans at 16 and 20 weeks and was tonld both times she was having a girl. After having 2 boys she was desperate for a girl, so she spent over £10,000 on the room, clothes, travel system and even redesigned the whole house interior to accomodate her precious little girl. The boys got forgotten about and when she gave birth she was devistated and went to a health farm on her own until her dh had changed everything she had bought and done for the baby.

hunkermunker · 31/12/2005 21:59

Bloody hell, Tegan, that's mental!

WethreelittlebabiesOfOrientAre · 31/12/2005 22:32

I think they can tell a bit later on, as I asked the sex of dd (third child) at 16,20,24,26,28,30 and 32 weeks and it was confirmed from 24 wks by 5 different sonographers! After 2 boys I just didn't believe them!

thecattleareALOHing · 31/12/2005 22:36

The scanners - and my and dh's intuition (strange because we are militantly rational people normally) - were correct both times. Ds first, then dd.

tillykins · 31/12/2005 22:38

I was just reading in the paper this week about a couple who had their baby and the midwife said it was a boy.
12 hours later, mum changed babys nappy and it was a girl!
What a mistake!!!

She'll be a girl Mum2oneandbump! Don't worry about that, worry about needing to change your name when she is born

pucca · 31/12/2005 22:44

I know when i asked when pg with my dd, i was told it was 95% a girl, i bought all the pink etc and they were right...i wouldn't have done so if i was told only 85% though, too much of a risk for me.

pucca · 31/12/2005 22:48

If it does turn out they are wrong...sell all the pink stuff on here, or ebay

Simplyred · 01/01/2006 10:21

My friend was told 80% certainy of a girl and she had a girl. I was told its a girl and had a girl!

they got my boy and my girl right both times

DoesntTheNewYearDragOn · 01/01/2006 10:27

At a 37 week growth scan with DS2 it was blooming obvious he was a boy, even to me, so they can tell late on

SpaGlorytoBlog · 01/01/2006 10:34

When I had our scan with DD at 28 weeks the sonographer pointed out her girly bits and said that you could tell she was a girl because they looked like a hamburger. Labia can get confused with testicals in scans, but if you can see the "filling" in the hamburger you can be 99% sure that it is a girl.
With DS there was no mistaking his winkle in the scans!

YeahBut · 01/01/2006 10:35

M2O&B, I'm 35 weeks pg and at my 20 week scan was told I was having a girl. I had to have a growth scan at 31 weeks and guess what, for a girl it's got rather large testicles!!! It was a huge shock, not because we were desperate for another girl (have 2 dds already), but because we'd had 3 months of thinking of bump as a girl. Hadn't bought too much pink stuff and had resisted the temptation to buy the gorgeous pink flower print maxi cosi car seat, thank goodness!! At the hospital we are going to, they always point out that sexing a baby from a scan is not an exact science and that they can only be 70% accurate. Most of the time, the confusion comes from identifying a boy as a girl. As someone mentioned earlier, if they are looking from a particular angle (underneath the bottom, I think) the scrotum can be mistaken for labia.

All this aside, of all the people I know who have been told the sex at a scan, I'm the only one I've ever heard of that's had this experience, so the chances of it happening must be very low indeed. I'd be pretty sure that they are right and you are having a girl. If you're really a bit uncertain, just hold off on all the pink stuff for a bit. Good luck!
