Carlitawantsababy · 26/10/2011 19:44

Wow. That really fills you with confidence doesn't it?! Grin

banana87 · 26/10/2011 20:12

Seriously? What a dimwit!

LikeABlackFlameCandleBNQ · 26/10/2011 20:43

What a plonker! Friend once nearly fell off her chair when I ate a strawberry....never heard that nugget before.

banana87 · 26/10/2011 21:27

Yes my friend once nearly had a heart attack when I poured her a glass of smoothie....apparently we aren't "allowed" that in pregnancy Hmm

CBear6 · 26/10/2011 22:37

Bwahahahaha!!!! My MW told me to drink lemonade when I had D&V while pregnant with DD because the fizz helps it stay down and the sugar helps give an energy boost.

FIL told me off for drinking milk while pregnant with DS because "eating for two is a myth you know!", milk being the most fattening food known to man ...

BikeRunSki · 26/10/2011 22:48

And my mw told me to drink cold, fizzy, sweet drinks to make the baby wiggle if I was everg concerned about it. I drank loads of lemonade and tonic water with both!

hairylights · 27/10/2011 08:10

"will you really want to come back full time?". Erm no. I really want to win euromillions, but it has so far eluded me, and we've got bills to pay.

Mum2be79 · 27/10/2011 08:13

LOL!!!!

I drink fizzy stuff EVERYDAY!!!!

My MW said not to eat peanuts or peanut butter despite the advice changing in 2009. She seemed to think that because I'm asthmatic, it can cause peanut allergies in my unborn child. (Nobody in my family is allergic to nuts - in fact, we have a 'healthy' craving for them!)

Carlitawantsababy · 27/10/2011 08:40

Oh CBear lay off the milk Wink bet you could've slapped her! *hairylights brilliant! Grin

BlingLoving · 27/10/2011 08:42

A friend of dh's asked me if I was sure I wanted that coke as "it has caffeine you know". Duh. Why do you think I was drinking it you idiot.

bennettsleg · 27/10/2011 10:36

Within 10 minutes of telling MIL & SIL I was up the stick, I got the food lecture. Wonderful tips:
No nuts at all, no soft cheeses at all, no seafood and particularly no crustaceans and the best one of all: no grapefruit.
Fats and sugars are ok, processed food is ok.
Well, that's all right, then!! Hmm

Carlitawantsababy · 27/10/2011 12:02

Haha bennett let's hope they have some equally good tips for labour and delivery!

VikingLady · 27/10/2011 12:17

Keep getting told honey will (not might, but WILL) trigger a spontaneous miscarriage as it is full of a special kind of bacteria. I think it is a local myth, since pg women I know elsewhere haven't heard this. Told by colleagues, local pg women, mw!

OK. Here's the thing. Honey is a known natural ANTI-biotic, never goes off (they have found honey in Egyptian tombs that was still edible) and the stuff you buy in supermarkets has been pasteurised anyway!

Still eating toast and honey... [hangry]

pregnantmimi · 28/10/2011 05:06

oh god you know what drines me nuts when people comment on weight gain or that you dont need to eat for 2 give me a break! Also people who are like "oh should you really be eating a macdonalds when your pregnant you should be eating the best you ever eaten" this is off a woman whos never been pregnant I just thought wait till you are. I never used to drink coke until pregnant as thought it was unhealty but its the only thing that keeps off the sickness if Im out and about and really helped but it if in the house try not to drink to much. Also I put 3 stone on and people just woman I noticed seem to comment on it all the time or put me down " hello fatty" I think its casue some are secretly jel or just silly woman. My midwife told me recently if I have a craving for high fat food to niddle on a carrot mmmmm dont think so .

laracroft2001 · 28/10/2011 08:27

i was told by some random old bag lady that if i didnt sit down every 15 minutes i would damage my unborn child!

Bumpsadaisie · 28/10/2011 08:28

Old neighbour of my parents commented snidely that because I'm 41 weeks plus the baby is bound to be "a lazy boy, awkward already" with her usual pouty face.

Now I know she was just making conversation but I did feel rather cross on my poor unborn son's behalf.

Dirtydishesmakemesad · 28/10/2011 11:49

My grandmother goes mad of she hears of me or sees me raising my arms above shoulder height aparently this will tangle the cord.

TeacupTempest · 28/10/2011 13:07

My dad last weekend: 'bet you wish you were thin again!?'
I am 33 weeks, still in mostly pre pregnancy clothes and. . . Recovering from anorexia! Cheers dadg!

TeacupTempest · 28/10/2011 13:08

Dad even

littlemachine · 28/10/2011 14:54

'I was very, very sick as well. Well, I was never actually sick, but I sometimes felt nauseous. Have you tried a ginger biscuit before you get up?'

All vv helpful sickness rememdies were delivered with a slight accusing tone, as if I was ill on purpose because of my lack of ginger eating.

SausageSmuggler · 28/10/2011 17:05

Teacup thats awful!
I was given the rubbish about peanut butter too because of my asthma.
I thought the caffine one was fairly valid but I have indulged in a few iced teas, seems to be my craving this pregnancy.

TeWihara · 28/10/2011 17:29

I think there are many woman out there who would gladly stuff a ginger biscuit down the throat of the next person to suggest it to them as a magic cure all.

I'm feeling vindicated about the peanut stuff! It was current advice not to eat them when I was PG with DD and I ignored it on the basis that it made no bloody sense at all. Grin

MrBloomsNursery · 28/10/2011 17:51

I only drank cloudy lemonade all throughout the first trimester Confused. I want some now too.

BikeRunSki · 28/10/2011 18:17

Bennet'sleg that's mad! DD is 10 years old and I craved grapefruit juice and prawn sandwiches from the moment the hyperemisis stopped!

ElaYar · 28/10/2011 18:17

Wait till you give birth and start bf-ing.. Don't eat onions, garlic, cabbage, don't use spices, don't eat any nuts, be careful with any animal protein.. Don't drink coffee.. Luckily my DD doesn't seem to have a problem with Vindaloo-breast milk Smile
