You sound pretty carm don't come in to hospital yet. No I think I will come in thank you. Oh look I've given birth 1h 30 min after arriving good job I didn't listen to you...

spannermary · 29/10/2011 13:38

My grandparents said "You must do loads and loads of exercise and keep really really busy." Um, actually I have Hyperemesis, and need to stay as still as possible and rest as much as I can otherwise I'll throw up.

Having a good giggle reading this thread - other than some of the more outrageous comments.

Now off to make myself some lovely hot toast and honey, which I've suddenly developed a craving for!!

Yummy!

I have eczema and had read about not eating peanuts if you have asthma or eczema but don't understand the rationale and haven't seen a clear explanation for it. No-one on either side of the family has a peanut allergy. I've been eating peanut butter anyway. I can give up caffeine, alcoho, soft cheesel etc but can't do without my peanut butter on granary toast for breakfast. Feel a little bit better about it now having read this thread.

6 weeks pregnant, first gp appointment, quite scared!

"Yes, of course we can book the appointments now, i mean, if you're not pregnant by that time we can always cancel them!"

Why, thank you doctor, that really fills me with confidence.

BikeRunSki · 29/10/2011 21:43

Opps, I meant ten days old....

SausageSmuggler · 29/10/2011 22:23

Actually thinking about it the only daft thing anyone said to me was 'oh as soon as that baby pops out you'll be on a strict diet, won't you?' luckily DH stepped in told my relative that there was no rush and I shouldn't be put under pressure. Bless him :)

sjsd · 29/10/2011 22:23

when i went into labour with my lb the rather snotty midwife told me i wasnt ready to push (no midwife lady im just trying to do a massive poo) finally convinced her to let me take off my jeans and knickers her first words were o my his heads crowned

Psammead · 29/10/2011 22:50

'Put your socks on, you'll get a bladder infection'

This said by a midwife during a contraction.

Ha ha I love this thread!

Yes WTF is it with the ginger? I've had ginger pressed on me from about half a dozen people, I bought ginger tea and all it did was give me heartburn. Surely everyone knows the only cure for "morning" sicknes (ha) is to cook a massive pot of macaroni cheese, eat two forkfuls, and then lie very very still on the sofa for two hours?

rodeoshoes · 31/10/2011 09:07

I get this all the time from total strangers - "so was it planned then your pregnancy"

Since when is my sex life any of your business?!!!

horseynewmum · 31/10/2011 13:53

I got told just boiled water helps stop the sickness. Never tried it as normal water dont stay down with HG. Also had the eat ginger it helps sickness. The smell sends me off to be sick.

spannermary I keep getting told to get up and do things makes you feel better too. Shock So howcome every time I get up i feel dizzy and have to lay back down? Would love to know the answer to that lol

VikingLady · 31/10/2011 15:52

The ginger made my morning sickness far worse... I think it irritated my stomach lining. Thank goodness for an intelligent (and helpful) mum, who told me to eat anything I could keep down, only avoiding anything that I knew was high risk for food poisoning, or smelt vile!

Coffee did smell vile in 1st trimester, so did alcohol, seafood, blue cheese etc, so reckon most of the official advice was pretty much unnecessary.

buonasera · 01/11/2011 15:52

VikingLady, my mum swears blind she didn't have morning sickness. I think she just said that so as not to put me off. Same as the way she always said labour without pain relief was bad, but no worse than getting a tooth out. What?? My mother's got a fairly low pain threshold as well so this seemed a bit mad. It was only once I started trying to have a kid though that I questioned her more and got the truth. Yes, no drugs really, just gas and air. Gas and air, and what was that other thing? Oh yes. Pethidine. She says she doesn't remember the details very much. No kidding mum.

ktt5378 · 01/11/2011 16:03

I was told to stop going to the gym by my MIL as soon as she found out I was pregnant! I already had but only because I didn't think throwing up while on a treadmill was a good look! Once the nausea went away at week 15 I have happily been gone back to Pilates, Water Aerobics and the treadmill and it has never been mentioned again!

ktt5378 · 01/11/2011 16:05

Oh and who told men that it's a good idea to comment on my weight? "You'll be getting big soon" and "you're quite small really" are not opinions that need shared and you would not make those comments to non pregnant work colleagues so why to me?

horseynewmum · 01/11/2011 18:43

While hugging toilet at 430am with HG my husband goes it's like a hangover have some alcohol and a bacon sarnie and you will be fine.
5 weeks later and loads more toilet hugging he goes maybe not like a hangover. No shit Sherlock.

Thumbelina79 · 02/11/2011 09:12

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Incredible!

New one - someone at work, who should know better:

"I knew you were pregnant because your face is swollen!"

What Does That Mean

I have a Fat Face

And another one "I knew you were pregnant because you wore a maxi dress"
