Now then, you may think this is odd, but.... what do you think of these?

I work as a care assistant, and one of the ladies I care for uses some Tena Lady disposable padded pants. They are elasticated all over the hip, bum and belly area, nice big pad for in between the legs, and I am assured are supremely comfortable.

I can testify that they are very discreet, they are big but you can't see she is wearing it.

And when 'used', you can take the whole caboodle off and throw it away.

So, being 25 weeks pg with second pregnancy, my thoughts have turned to the horrendous post-partum bleeding I had for 2 days after the birth of ds.

These pads seem like such a good idea! No faffing with disposable knickers, no pad slippage, I know these pads rarely leak as they fit snugly. What is the opinion of the masses? Good idea? Bad idea? Basically good but will leave me open to ridicule (I don't care though)?

Ghastly!

colditz · 27/12/2005 21:43

Yes of course ghastly, but more ghastly than rubbish maternity pads leaking all over the hospital bed?

having bled and bled and bled and bled...I can see your point!!!

Who'll know anyway?!?

feastofsteven · 27/12/2005 21:44

But not as ghastly as having to dash away from the one day paed trick because you were leaking blood onto the floor !

sounds fine to me - only problem I can see is that hospital may prefer you to use conventional pads so that it is easier to pick up on any abnormal level of bleeding that may signal infection etc.

feastofsteven · 27/12/2005 21:44

paed check not trick

I bled for 14 weeks! And the first week was so heavy I didn't dare leave the house!

Huh. Hospital can go ***. They took no interest in the gushing last time, and they don't wash my pants, I do

jamiesam · 27/12/2005 21:46

Would they be comfy over/around any scar (c/s) or tear?

Surely can't be any more ridiculous than most pg 'big pants'? I should have thought that at one/two days after the birth, comfort would beat any thoughts of err, well, fashion?!?

I reckon a good idea!

colditz · 27/12/2005 21:46

Everyone is going to laugh, aren't they?

OP posts:
feastofsteven · 27/12/2005 21:48

would they look that obviously different to ordinary paper disposable pants anyway?

colditz · 27/12/2005 21:50

Hang on, I will try to find a picture.

Are you planning on being in hospital a long time after birth?

And anyway, who would see? Unless you've got a very skimpy nightie for your hospital bag?

jamiesam · 27/12/2005 21:58

hah hah, great website name. Also lol that only available in medium and large.

colditz · 27/12/2005 21:58

It's just those 2 days, the awful bleeding sticks in my minds from 2.5 years ago! I think In am going to buy them anyway, unless someone gives me a very good reason why they aren't suitable.

I don't know about a section scar, as have never had one.

The lady I work with is tiny and the mediums fit her, but stretch so much would also fit a size 16 lady! so I am thinking the large ones would be fine after birth.

Oh lordy they remind me of dn's up pants...but I guess if they make life easier......

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 27/12/2005 22:05

go for it girl - as long as you're buying the disposable pants - and not going to be wearing pads with netties

colditz · 27/12/2005 22:10

Don't knock netties!

My hubby bought me Tena Lady pads instead of maternity pads after I had my DD and they were far better than a maternity pad.
I was mortified at first and proclaimed loudly that my bladder was fine but as that was all I had I tried them and would use them again.
Havent thought about the pants though - will keep an open mind if I become pregnant again.

sparklymieow · 27/12/2005 22:15

I think its a good idea, I remember getting out of bed when I had DS and blood gushing down my legs, more than once, and because I had a C/S I had to wear those stc=ockings, and the poor midwife had to wash them for me, I was so

4blue1pink · 27/12/2005 22:16

Maybe thats what Penny Lancaster wore to the restaurant!
