Just curious really. My friend is nearly ready to drop and they asked her...well sort of assumed she would want to do it. She didn't.

Apparently you get 10k for it.

I was having a conversation with another friend and we both thought we might do it, but only for a lot more money. Say 30k upwards...

What do you think?

No way on God's earth.

roz1982 · 25/10/2011 16:08

I'd do it for 10k. For definite. The only thing that worries me is that they only mostly seem to show the more dramatic experiences of birth because that's what makes the best telly!

Thomcat · 25/10/2011 16:09

Yeah I think I probably would if I had a hospital birth but I had home births and not sure I would want my home full of cameras. A part of me would love to be able to watch my births back and as they were wonderful positive experiences it would be nice for people to see that that it is sometimes possible not to have to moo and scream etc!

YourMother · 25/10/2011 16:13

For 10k definitely! Would be nice to be able to watch it back and put the fee away for the baby.

Although my births are very boring and "textbook" so probably not worth the money, no exciting birth plans or screaming or dramatic interventions or anything else that would make edge-of-your-seat viewing here either!

MiauMau · 25/10/2011 16:41

definitely not, it is going to be hard enough not to have my mum there, having stranger filming my lady bits (love that expression Grin) would just make it worse.

PamBeesly · 25/10/2011 16:48

Maybe if I was on DC2 but not when I've never given birth before, if you are using gas and air you re liable to say anything! I didn't realise you got 10k thats a lot, does Channel 4 pay that I wonder

melliebobs · 25/10/2011 16:50

No chance! I didn't think u got paid for it?! There was a article for Leeds local paper looking for possible mums to be never mentioned in there. But they did say there are chances us end up on the cutting room floor! But the nation seeing me at my most vulnerable?! No way

Sandra2011 · 25/10/2011 18:03

No thanks. Birth is only to be seen by myself, hubby and MW.

ASuitableGirl · 25/10/2011 18:09

Possibly with DDs birth. Not with DSs - would have been nicely dramatic with forceps, lots of blood lpss and me being sewn up in theatre but I'm quite glad I didn't have to see it really.

FetchezLaVampire · 25/10/2011 18:11

I would, for ten grand.

Hmmm. I wonder if they still pay you even if you do end up on the cutting room floor, or only if you make the actual programme?

MandaHugNKiss · 25/10/2011 18:13

Yeah, I'd do it, especially for 10k which would be a nice bonus for all my children...

But I'd have to make DP sign a contract with me ensuring he doesn't act like an arse. I mean, he doesn't usually... but have you seen most of the partners? OBEM seems to bring out the worst in some of them and they haven't got 'being in labour/hormones' as an excuse.

ShowOfHands · 25/10/2011 18:13

Yup, am unable to give birth vaginally so would only need to lie there.

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 25/10/2011 18:15

I would.

as long as they would promise me not to leave me lying on my back, on a bed, on my own, with virtually no support, for hours on end until i was begging for an epidural and talking bollocks.

VivaLeBeaver · 25/10/2011 18:15

I would for 10k.

VivaLeBeaver · 25/10/2011 18:16

But I'd have an epidural and be under a sheet, covered up reading a book. Grin Wouldn't make for exciting TV.

AVoidkaTheKillerZombies · 25/10/2011 18:17

For 10K I would be there with bells on.

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 25/10/2011 18:17

and i would also insist they show me trying to breastfeed the newborn, nipples and all.

and show the third stage, and all the goo that birth involves which is strangely missing usually from OEM.

smileitssunny · 25/10/2011 18:20

for that money, hell yeah! gotta give birth anyway.

Yorky · 25/10/2011 18:25

Thomcat - snap to the homebirths!
I'd do it for ten grand!

YaMaYaMa · 25/10/2011 18:30

For £10k I would go and get knocked up especially for the programme.

Pascha · 25/10/2011 18:35

I'd love to do it.

Snd then afterwards I would come on here under a namechange and start a thread asking for a critique and scores for my performance. [hgrin]

architien · 25/10/2011 18:38

There's no way on earth I would do that. I need a feeling of security, calm and privacy to open up and get on with the work at hand. The last thing that I'd want is a crew in the room in fact for me I'd say it'd risk intervention. Viva is right, they would be wanting what they perceive to be exciting TV all last minute running screaming blah. Nope not for me. You only get to birth that particular baby once. I wouldn't do that program for £1M.

TeWihara · 25/10/2011 18:39

I would for 10k!

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 25/10/2011 18:41

In fact - for 10k I might volunteer to let them film the conception.

LynetteScavo · 25/10/2011 18:43

Not with my first baby, but yes, if I had another I would for 10K.
