Just curious really. My friend is nearly ready to drop and they asked her...well sort of assumed she would want to do it. She didn't.

Apparently you get 10k for it.

I was having a conversation with another friend and we both thought we might do it, but only for a lot more money. Say 30k upwards...

What do you think?

Hmmm, 10K would come in very handy. How explicit is the prog? (I can't bear to watch even the adverts.)

TeWihara · 25/10/2011 18:55

I just went on the channel 4 website to see if I could apply Blush seems not though!

I suppose they just pick people who are already attending the hospital they're filming at.

thousandDenier · 25/10/2011 19:04

Heeeelll yes. I would have made great telly with DC1 due to my gas & air-enhanced belief that I was conducting a hilarious stand-up routine between 4-7cm. (NB I may have just been a gibbering buffoon)

I'd get all gung-ho about active birthing and skin-to-skin and would probably get my norks out.

DH is also a blooming gem in the delivery room.

I'm at it again next Spring, where do I sign? Grin

Rollersara · 25/10/2011 20:46

I was asked if I'd take part in a fly on the wall documentary on women with physical disabilities "and the additional problems they face when giving birth". What, like being followed round by a tv crew?!

Also, I couldn't go back to work knowing a percentage of my colleagues would have seen all [hblush]

Didn't think about being paid though...

aethelfleda · 25/10/2011 20:54

No way!!! Reality TV is awful- you have no control at all on how they edit you, my friend went on a documentary and was edited to get the "role" that the director wanted her in to "tell the story" (their words) - made her appear totally batty, and portayed her to a million plus viewers in a way she really didn't like. Plus my ladybits REALLY are not going on a TV screen for any price!!!

Homelybird · 25/10/2011 20:58

I was asked too, they never mentioned any money to me Confused Angry.

Although we are skint...no way would I say yes. I cannot imagine going back to work knowing all my colleagues saw me give birth!!!

ILoveDolly · 25/10/2011 21:00

If you have a story to tell/reason for wanting too. or maybe a burning need for 10K. Personally I wouldn't want to!! But then I am glad somebody does because I bloody love that programme.

MustControlFistOfDeath · 25/10/2011 21:09

I love it too...but the lovely midwife won't be in it anymore now it's gone oop north Sad

Superene · 25/10/2011 21:10

No way, not even for £10k. If they had been filming my ds2's birth they wouldn't have found it very exciting... And I didn't even see the mw's face until after he was born! I was hanging over the back of the bed the whole labour (mercifully quick) so the poor woman only saw my back and bum!

ILoveDolly · 25/10/2011 21:57

I know some of the midwives who were in the last series and they said they thought it was well ('cleverly') edited. So hopefully none of the participants were misrepresented. Some documentaries are more responsible than others?

GibberingGinger · 25/10/2011 22:15

I am a member of the CLAPA (Cleft lip and palate associate) facebook group and there is lady on there who's baby was diagnosed with a cleft lip at her 20 week scan. She has agreed to be filmed to help awareness of the condition. She hasn't mentioned whether she is being paid, but has said that she has the right to veto the edit.

AheadlesswomancalledHorse · 26/10/2011 00:04

I wouldn't do it for any amount. Can imagine when LO is 13 & all his/her friends can youtube and say 'haha! I've just seen your mums fanny/tits'

SurprisEs · 26/10/2011 00:16

I wouldn't. I felt self conscious about the MW looking at my genitals let alone a bloody camera crew in the room! I'm too shy.

But 10k is a nice amount of money... I wish I had the guts!

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 26/10/2011 01:19

Was going to say yes because their mws seem lovely and mine were bastards but just seen a pp say its going elsewhere? :(

Fifis25StottieCakes · 26/10/2011 01:27

I didn't know you got paid. No even 10k wouldn't sway me and 10k to me is a bloody fortune. I would never hear the end of it tbh and would do something totally ridiculous making a complete show of myself.

When i had dd3 it was like carry on up the QE. OH was missing in action and my best friend came with me. The photos are crazy.

mildertduck · 26/10/2011 08:09

The cameras are fixed-mount; there's a makeshift studio elsewhere in the hospital but there isn't actually a crew in the room with you. They do make that clear at the beginning...

spookshowangellovesit · 26/10/2011 09:08

i would totally for 10 grand not sure i could watch it but would be a bit on the way towards my deposit so fingers crossed for feb in Brighton.

VivaLeBeaver · 26/10/2011 09:12

Do the midwives get paid?

figgygal · 26/10/2011 11:53

I havent watched it in a while is it graphic vagina shots? If so possibly not if it's not showing everything then bloody right i would.

TheVampireEmpusa · 26/10/2011 11:59

I would for 10k! Damn not living near that hospital! Why can't they film it at Watford..

LoveInAColdGrave · 26/10/2011 15:41

Not in a million years.

IssyStark · 26/10/2011 15:44

Probably yes (the Princess Anne is my hospital and we know a couple who were on it and the follow up 'Bringing Baby Home').

But then I'd like to raise awareness of recurrent miscarriage and be able to publicly thank the various staff at the PAH who have got us through to preg #10 in the search for kid #2, if only due to their TLC rather than any medical interventions.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 07/11/2011 18:20

I do not think I could do it as it is very personal thing.

YM1 xxxx

Mum2be79 · 07/11/2011 19:41

Don't think they actually show the lady bits. I think it's blurred out on TV.

For £10,000 I would consider it BUT I would have to have DH's approval before committing to it as he'll be taking part too. I suppose there will be some 'humiliation', interest from colleagues, neighbours, village idiots etc, etc for a short while but likelihood is, they'll soon forget and move onto something else to gossip about.

I'd put the money into a junior ISA - AKA college fund!!!

bulby · 07/11/2011 19:49

Good god no! It's bad enough facing year 11 boys without them having intimate knowledge of my boobs and bum Smile.
