Would you buy a second hand pram?

I'm thinking about getting a second hand travel system in really good condition. Its half th price of it new. Do you think it's okay to buy second hand? Am I being cheap?? I will buy a brand new car seat.

Yes, as long as the carseat is new I cant see a problem myself.

We are reusing our pram from dd1,its 5 years old, I see no point getting a new one at all

Just make sure the carseat will fit the old travel system- we had to track adapters down but wasn't too hard, just ebayed them x

I would have no hesitation to buy 2nd hand...in fact i think its very money wise.
I would not have for my pfb...that was just my mind set, but now...in hind sight, defo i would have bought 2nd hand.

If you like the pram and are happy with the condition it's in, I'd say go for it. I have no children yet, only pregnant, but from what you hear it seems like people don't use the bulky and expensive travel systems that long anyway and switch to a light weight buggy as soon as possible.

It's not cheap, it's sensible. You can always spend the saved money on something else for your baby you wouldn't have gotten otherwise...

We're expecting ID twins tomorrow - our secondhand buggy and carrycot set just arrived by courier and it is like new and functions perfectly! I was a little cautious but now delighted we bought this way - i think we've saved about £600

Are car seats, however as new....

Oh yes! Got my gorgeous pram for £50, compared with £650 new. Then I found the car seat adaptors on pre-loved, and bought a new mattress for the carry cot. Bargain!

Hell yes! I recently bought a second hand double Chicco buggy from Nethuns. The original price was £220 and I got it for £40. In really good condition so I was very chuffed with finding that.

Utterly sensible in my book. We've had a 2nd hand travel system and 2nd hand double and no regrets at all.

Very sensible, especially given the way things are at the minute! Nearly everything of DD's was a hand-me-down, buggy, cot, majority of her clothes. Could also partially be due to me being addicted to eBay As long as you get the new car seat, go for it!

Of course - actually I would prefer to be given one from friends - we had everything second hand/hand-me-downs - including car seat.

Really, really don't understand why some people spend so much on new stuff for their baby - it's well known that it is the best 'marketing' ploy there is.

Got my first pram second hand and saved 300 quid or so, 15 months down the line and I need a double, just got one 750 off!

1050 buys mummy a lot of gin/skis/handbags*.

Delete as applicable. :)

Our friends have just bought a 4k pram for the Pfb.

Thank you ladies! I do want the best for my little one but it's all so expensive and as mentioned I will only use it for so long then need something else! Consider it bought!

I also buy ALL my son's clothes in the sales (buying a year in advance) or at the very least using discount codes.

What I've saved on pram and clothes paid my ski how this year. Much better for my mental health! ;)

He won't remember his first pram, but I will always remember taking him to Austria and swimming in a heated outdoor pool with him surrounded by snowy peaks.

Yes - I did. It was my friend's travel system so I knew where it had been - she had also lent the pram part of it (but not the carseat part) to another friend (who I also knew) so in fact it was partly 3rd hand. Not an issue from my POV.

The only thing I really spent money out on for DS was a new cot mattress and covers - apart from that, everything else was either a freebie from friends, bought second hand or a gift (lots of his newborn clothes were gifts but a fair few were handmedowns from friends as well).

I buy second hand wherever possible as it saves so much money.

Would definitely buy second hand pram and am hoping other people feel the same as need to sell mine to fund a double in time for the next arrival

We've just bought a lovely bugaboo for 1/3 of the price of new - great condition! Preloved is cheaper and less of a hassle than Ebay IMO, though you have to snap up the bargains fast!

Definitely worth it when there's so much to buy, and you don't know if you'll end up replacing it soon anyway.

I agree too and if your worried about germs etc borrow a steam cleaner and give it a blast, we are planning on a few second hand buys - to my mind id rather spend the money on the actual baby :)

I've had a few second hand. I clean them either in the washing machine or with the pressure washer and they come up sparkly clean!

If you can find a decent one second hand it's a great way to save some cash for other things.

Go for it - you'd be daft not to! Most people move on from the bulky travel systems really quickly!!

clippingin I have no idea but I can't wait for the grand unveiling, although she's only 10 weeks.

I assume it gets up in the night to feed the baby, is amphibious and can also fly.

The only problem we foresee is that they drive a polo... Surely it can't fit?

I have bought a second hand pram for the one I am brewing now :) £50. The way I see it the baby doesn't care what brand the pram is and if it is brand new, I would sooner save our money in the hope I can afford to put off going back to work.

Yes, I would, provided its in good condition. Some people only use the prams 2 or 3 times,decide they don't want it and sell it so you can get a bargain.
I have bought a new single and a second hand double this time, but the single is pretty bulky so not sure how long it will last with us! :)

I bought a second hand m&p pram with carrycot, seat and rain cover for.......£10.50!!!!
It was an old system, but suited us and I knew we wouldn't need it fir long. Was much happier then buying a maclaren xt umbrella fold buggy at full price which will have years of use.

I bought a second hand double a few years ago for £100. Got my use out of it then sold it on ebay for £150!!

Gutted now that i sold it as i desperately need a new double....
