oh I agree family names are best and it can be a bit pointless othewise. my DD's middle name is a family name (well, it was my childhood dog's name ) and also chosen to reflect the fact we're Kiwis.

merrycompo · 14/12/2005 17:58

Has anybody said Emily Joy?

Tinker · 14/12/2005 18:03

Oh, disagree completely about middle names being a waste. They are there for parental indulgence, surely?

WhenAChildIsBored · 14/12/2005 18:04

I love Emily Joy.

AChristmasCarolinamoon · 14/12/2005 18:08

ok Tinker, if you are giving a name that you just don't have the balls to give as a first name - e.g. Jezebel or whatever - then fair enough.

All these Jane/May/Kate-type middle names are hardly indulging yourself are they? It's like trying to indulge yourself by eating a ricecake instead of a nice fat slab of chocolate.

LadyTophamInAChristmasHatt · 14/12/2005 18:16

If DS3 had been a girl he would have been Emily Eliza (or Eliza Emily)

Tinker · 14/12/2005 18:41

Agree with that CM. I have one of each - 1 got family and the 2nd got indulgence.

AChristmasCarolinamoon · 14/12/2005 19:39

so what was the indulgence name Tinker?

MyXmasPuddingSixpenceworth · 14/12/2005 19:56

I like Amily Grace

MyXmasPuddingSixpenceworth · 14/12/2005 19:56

meant Emily, of course!

WhenAChildIsBored · 14/12/2005 20:23

How about something really gross like Emily Blodwen or Emily Ermintrude - that way she will never go through that teenage thing of wanting to be called by her middle name, and she will be glad you called her Emily!

feastofsteven · 14/12/2005 20:26

Jane? Jade?

Agree with pph - my dd has my middle name, which was my grandmother's name. I rather regret ds's middle name as it has no family connections. If naming him again would give him John as a middle name as it my great grandfather's name, grandfather's name and my uncle's name and he would have been a fourth generation John.

carlychristmas · 14/12/2005 22:21

i love the name emily may

My dd has two middle names, first name is isabelle, middle names are Emily May. Loads of people say it sounds sweet together and in fact may use May name again if I have another dd as a middle name. My Granny was Emily May.
