Has anyone experienced this and gone on to have a baby from the pregnancy? Two weeks ago it said "2-3 weeks", a week ago it said "3 weeks", today it says "2-3 weeks".

Please, please reassure me that all is not lost, as I sit in the waiting room for the first of two hcg blood tests. Or, alternatively, prepare me kindly for the worst :-(

24 hours was the best we could manage in the circs, kat. The lab I'd closed on the weekend, and I'm out of the country from Monday. As well as reassuring me, what she really wanted was to make sure that the levels weren't at a height where they definitely should have seen something, at which point ectopic would have gone to the top of the list of likeliness.

There was nothing in the uterus at all.

Am feeling a lot calmer and more sanguine this morning. Will just see what the post holiday scan shows.

I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to you, kat. Was it a blighted ovum in your case? It sounds horribly sad :(

OP posts:
kat2504 · 18/09/2011 08:27

On that occasion yes it probably was a blighted ovum. It was very sad but it was better to have it quickly managed at 8 weeks rather than discovering it at the 12 week scan (although nature might have intervened by then). I'm cautiously pregnant again now so hoping this one will be third time lucky for me!

Hope you enjoy your holiday. It's hard when you are worrying I know (during my recent holiday I was 5 weeks pregnant and having spotting) but letting it spoil your holiday won't change the outcome. When you get back everything could turn out to be fine for all you know.

LadyMaybe · 19/09/2011 00:33

Hi Northey I'm having my HCG levels monitored at the moment and they are tracked on a graph which shows the 50th/95th/5th percentile levels for HCG per weeks of pregnancy.
If you were absolutely on the average (50th percentile), then a level of ~9500 followed by ~12000 the next day is spot on for being 5+4 on the first measurement.
If you had extremely high levels of HCG compared to the average woman, you could be 4+4.
If you were on the lower percentile, you could be as far along as 6+5! which goes to show how much things can vary.

in all cases, the increase you have is tracking on the graph for the appropriate increase rate.

As for the scan showing nothing, from what I've read (having had three MCs with varying scan results), they should have seen a tiny gestational sac at least (if you were 4+4). However, if you have a retroverted uterus (tips back instead of front) they might not see things until quite late.
I hope this works out for you, presumably you'll go back for a further scan to see what progress has happened?

Northey · 19/09/2011 04:57

Thanks ladymaybe. That's all really helpful. Yes, a follow up scan is booked for 27th. Seems so long to wait!

I hope it works out for you. I think those conception indicators are a bloody menace personally. Don't know who thought they were a good idea.

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 19/09/2011 07:38

Thinking of you, and praying for the best

Northey · 19/09/2011 08:19

I tell you, if I ever get pregnant again, I am not going near the wretched things!

OP posts:
NotFromConcentrate · 19/09/2011 11:43

Fingers crossed for your follow-up scan.

My MW was ranting about those conception indicators recently - she said she's seen them cause far more stress and upset than anything else! (And then she started on dopplers...I just smiled sweetly Grin)

Hope all goes well x

Northey · 28/09/2011 08:06

Just an update for any future readers who wanted to know the outcome, it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy which I have just had removed along with the tube.

OP posts:
Jeezimacasalinga · 28/09/2011 13:49

Very sorry to hear the outcome Northey. Hope you are doing ok x

Crosshair · 28/09/2011 14:20

Wishing you a good recovery.

RedSlippers · 28/09/2011 21:43

Oh Northey, how utterly, utterly, shit. I really hope you're okay, and that you are being looked after and supported.
Hope you recover quickly from the op, and wish you all the best for the future.
It probably means nothing to you right now- but you are in my thoughts xx

Midgetm · 29/09/2011 07:59

I had the same with my DD (and I have had a lot of miscarriages - getting close to double figures). Anyway - there was no heartbeat on the scan and I assumed the worst (of course I did - I had experienced it many times) but the next week there was a flickering HB. Many other times they have seen nothing at 6 weeks because I have M/C. What I am trying to say is that no amount of googling or second guessing will give you a clear indication of what will happen. (Take it from me - I think some of my typing fingers are shorter than others after going through this so many times times). It is just getting through the longest week wait for another scan and trying not to google yourself into total dementia. Increasing levels are a good indicator - I would take some comfort from it. If you know your dates are right becasue you were tracking temps etc then you can say for sure how far along you were then probably alarm bells would go off for me not to see anything at 6. However, if you are out by even a day or so this could be the reason. Also mother nature sometimes has it's own ideas and as the other lady posted who is her last trimester not all babies run to our timescale. Hang in there petal.

Crosshair · 29/09/2011 09:38

Erm its probably best to read the whole thread before replying. :(

Midgetm · 29/09/2011 09:59

Oh god Northey I am so dumb - I must of been on the wrong page (literally and metaphorically speaking). I am so sorry for you. I know nothing I can say will make up for your loss but I just hope you aren't in too much pain. .Take care and rest up, hope you have enough people around you to give you the love and space you will need. (another virtual hug and sorry for my cock up - an honest if somewhat dumb mistake)

LIG1979 · 29/09/2011 10:37

I am so sorry Northy. I really was hoping that no news was good news.

Northey · 29/09/2011 13:46

Honestly don't worry midgetm, I could tell what had happened and knew you didn't mean it!

It does definitely mean something to know I'm in your thoughts, redslippers, and everyone else's for that matter. So thank you all.

I am taking empathy to a whole new level as currently in a hospital bed after a trip in an ambulance with sirens blaring. Etopic suspected but not confirmed. Perhaps explains my thread madness earlier as I passed out just 3 hours later. Life is a funny old thing. In a not very funny kind of way. Whatever has happened I am trying to be grateful they have got it so early. Sending hugs but just hospital ones.

Crosshair · 29/09/2011 20:25

Hope its nothing too serious Midgetm.

Northey · 29/09/2011 22:06

You poor old duck, midgetm. Any news? I do hope you are ok.

OP posts:
Midgetm · 29/09/2011 23:20

Thanks you lot. Keeping me in. Not looking good just a question of degrees of shitness. Registrar was saying they would operate but consultant says it may not be etopic. Been from resus to an old ladies ward and now being transferred to they gyne ward. Shattered. Hospital is no place for the sick! Thanks for your messages x

Northey · 30/09/2011 06:40

How are you feeling this morning? Hospitals are a weird old place overnight - sort of comforting but restless as well. I spent the whole night padding silently along the cubicles to the window, to the nurses' station, to the toilets, to the door, to the window, to the nurse's station... I expect you've been awake for hours. Are you in much pain?

OP posts:
Midgetm · 30/09/2011 08:39

Hey northey, pain is intermittent and manageable but BP keeps going really low. Been constantly strapped to ECG, BP and a drip. Hoping to get some news this morning from bloods done in the night. Keep hearing everyone talking about it being etopic except the consultant. Bit odd. To be honest after yesterday I am just glad to be alive (glad I didn't know what code blue meant when the ambulance called it in). Just hoping this is managed in the best way. So you mind me asking what treatment or mgmt you had?

Midgetm · 30/09/2011 08:40

Oh and you are right, didn't sleep a wink. And was so close to dragging my drip into a taxi and breaking out of here.
