going round in circles here and would really appreciate your opinions on:

Girls: Esme or Sorrell
Boys: Floyd, Henry or Max

I like more unusual names but don't want to get the poor kid bullied at school!!!

Thankyou

Like both Henry and Sorrell

PeachyPlumFairy · 13/12/2005 18:49

Like the boys names (DS2 has Max as a middle name), not keen on girls names tho.

Epiffany · 13/12/2005 18:53

Max is FAB
I have one

Esme is quite pretty
Sorrell very weird
I know quite a few little Henry's locally it's quite a popular name just now.
I dig Floyd but like you would fear peoples eyebrows when you holler it in the park for him to come in for his tea.

SnowmAngeliz · 13/12/2005 18:54

Esme is lovely, not keen on Sorrel

Epiffany · 13/12/2005 18:55

My Max is 12 now, it was obscure when we named him.
there are lots of younger Max's about I do notice
And in our local NCT newletter 4 of the 6 boys born were called Zachary

LilacBump · 13/12/2005 18:55

don't like any of them, sorry

Curmudgeonlett · 13/12/2005 18:56

think you should start again if your key request is for child NOT to be bullied

terryschonkyorange · 13/12/2005 19:00

I like Esme, Max and Henry - not too keen on the others

TheVillageIdiot · 13/12/2005 19:02

Floyd - for sure. He'll thank you for it in the future, it'll be character building.

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 13/12/2005 19:02

Henry and Max are cool.
Just don't like the others.

santabops · 13/12/2005 19:13

I vote for Esme but I do have one of my own, so biased.

Funny you think it is unusual as I know a few Esmes. However, was shocked when I announced her name and loads oof people asked me if I had made it up??? ffs!
or short for Esmerelda!?

Mum2OneAndBump · 13/12/2005 19:13

Sorry but don't like any of them!

OnTheJA9thDayOfChristmas · 13/12/2005 19:16

Really like Max

Surely the days of kids being bullied at school for their name, have gone. I mean, anything goes these days doesnt it?

collision · 13/12/2005 19:17

My ds1 is Max and I love it and object to PPPH's comment!

My nephew is Henry and I just dont like it. Floyd is not good either. What about Flynn or Finlay or Fergus or Felix?

Not keen on the girls names either. Sorry.

hana · 13/12/2005 19:21

not keen on them, do like Max but v common, ditto for Henry

fisiltoe · 13/12/2005 19:24

Unusual names are great. All 4 names we chose are traditional but unusual.

However, we reckoned it was best not to sound anyone out with the names. Firstly opinions differ and you will always find people who dislike every single name. Secondly because people will tell you their opinion about a name, but not when it is attached to a person.

We decided to live in blissful ignorance of what people thought of the names we had chosen!

santabops · 13/12/2005 19:38

I agree fisiltoe;

We would never have been brave enough to go ahead with Esme if we had tried it out first, it did get quite a reaction. I thought it was just a traditional and 'old fashioned' name! So the reactions we got were a bit of a shock to us...

Especially as I don't like unusaul names - prefer normal ones! So that was why I thought it odd you thought Esme was unusual guzzler...

moondog · 13/12/2005 20:40

Quite fisiltoe.
Knew what my children would be called before conceiving them even and never breathed a word to a soul.
Even dh was informed rather than invited to express an opinion.

Epiffany · 14/12/2005 08:39

I took the liberty of naming dd myself the night of her birth, while dp popped out for a few nibbles from M+S for his new family.
He got the middle name and free rein to name the next one...
We're stopping at dd
dd would have been Siofra which is cool but well, a bit of nightmare having to spell out toe every bloody person.
If we have a boy IF we ever try again, he wants to call it Thadius after a g g g g g g g grandfather.
Hence stopping after dd.

guzzler · 14/12/2005 09:21

wow thats some (mixed) reaction!! Santabops - guess you are right I don't really mean unusual, I like trad names that aren't super-common (dd1 is a Tilly) - have you got an accent on your Esme ?(sorry - odd way of putting it).

Felix i do really like aswell but can't help form thinking "cat food" ??

BTW - PPPH Sorrell was from the french meaning reddish borwn rather than the herb sorrel (which i agree is not a partic nice herb to name after and others will think I just can't spell)......

Nobody liked the names we gave to DS2 and 3 (ds1 is a Samuel so that was OK0, they are Stirling and Harold. People are now used to Stirling and he loves his name , Harold has intentionally been abbreviated to harry anyhow (we wanted Harry but as dh's Dad and my Grandad were called Harold, it seemed nice to combine them).

Don't worry what anyone else says: it's you that has to yell it for the next 18 years

santabops · 14/12/2005 21:01

guzzler

we say it Esme

not the

Esmay way which is the accented way I think!?

Cristina7 · 14/12/2005 21:08

I know a 2 year old Sorrel so I like the name. Henry is nice too.
