I am thinking of buying a Natures Nest as my last two children did not sleep well, they look great but has anyone used one, I would welcome your comments.

there's one for sale on here, just thought i'd mention it if you haven't seen it.
can't offer any feedback as I've never tried one.

Hi there, (sorry for long post to follow!!)

We bought an Amby nest for our DD - now 14 months - we thought it was fab and she has always been a brilliant sleeper and always loved going to bed! When we had to rush her to hospital for bizarre kind of 'passing out'at 3 months (very worrying) and had to stay the night, DH went home to get the nest as we thought it would help her to settle in hospital. We had paediatricians all over us like a rash asking to know where we got our hammock from as they would love them for poorly babies! DD was fine incidentally and we are now expecting no.2 - in February. We were really sad to transfer her to a cot-bed recently but we had no trouble making the move (I think actually she likes the extra space) and I'm really looking forward to seeing our new one in the nest. My midwife and hv's all thought the nest was fab and I found it really easy to move round the house though we did end up just putting huge hooks in the beams in the house and hanging her up on those rather than the stand it comes with (dp a builder and promised me that hooks could take the strain!!)
Also, Amby nest boasts that the nest aids all sort of development - it may be coincidence but DD, born very tiny, has consistently been ahead of her peers with mobility etc and has always been really strong though that may just because she is always so well rested!! We thought it a bargain - DP reckoned that if it saved him 7 or 8 hours of disturbed sleep it would easily have paid for itself!! Well, I'm obviously a fan, but I really believe it has saved us money as it does the job of Moses basket, travel cot (we've taken it to B&B's & camping when DD was 8 &1/2 months and didn't have a single whimper at bed time) and bed for at least the first 12 months (though as you already have 2 this probably isn't a factor) Also, I do think DD loved the movement as a tiny baby and helped her to develop really positive associations with going to bed. Ooh, I can't wait to get it out again for the new one - can't recommend it highly enough. Good luck with your new arrival in any case!

bobblehead · 09/05/2007 02:21

sorry to bump this after so long but just wondering if anyone else had tried one?
dd2 is a great sleeper provided someone is holding her/she is lying on someone and I really want her in her own bed!

AitchTwoOh · 09/05/2007 02:25

get one get one get one. they're great.

bobblehead · 09/05/2007 19:10

have just ordered one

AitchTwoOh · 09/05/2007 20:04

i'm sure you won't regret it, it's a lovely way for a baby to sleep.

Caz10 · 09/05/2007 20:24

Had never seen them before and they look FAB! Would love to hear what anyone else thinks, am always sceptical of these recommendations on people's own websites.

Chooster · 09/05/2007 21:30

I ordered mine yesterday so just waiting for it to arrive (am 30wks pregnant with DS2). I heard some fantastic things from a friend of mine who swears by it.

AitchTwoOh · 09/05/2007 23:02

i loved it, so did dd, she slept really well. no disadvantages at all.

gess · 09/05/2007 23:04

got one for ds3, wish I'd had one for ds1 and ds2,I would have had a lot more sleep!

If you're in Devon I'm about to sell mine (raw cotton) plus sheets, and bouncy bounder thing, extra spring as well iirc. I think its going to need a new matress though.

beckmo · 10/05/2007 01:17

Ohhhh...this thread has just started my Amby nature nest obsession up again.Symptons are hanging around ebay looking at auctions and reading every review I can get my hands on. Really want one but can't afford it and already have moses basket, cot, carry cot so can't justify it either. They look great.

My next baby is getting one.

AitchTwoOh · 10/05/2007 11:31

but three weeks into that new baby's life, if someone offered you a way to get More Sleep for about a hundred pounds (second-hand) then you'd take it, yes?

beckmo · 10/05/2007 12:04

Oh ATO....You don't think I already have this up my sleeve to persuade DH that it is actually a necessity....

I'm hoping that 3 weeks in, bleary eyed, he'll buy anything I suggest!

beckmo · 10/05/2007 12:05

By the way -if you are selling in about 7 weeks time you know where to find me!

AitchTwoOh · 10/05/2007 16:33

my friend has it at the mo and my SiL is next in line... good luck finding one elsewhere, it is well worth it.

Tallis · 13/05/2007 08:42

I've never heard of these but now I'm seriously tempted. Can any of you Nesting experts out there tell me if the sling bit is washable in case of, er, accidents? And is it easy to get the baby in and out or does the hammock keep swinging away from you?

weewilliewinkie · 13/05/2007 09:46

just wanted to add - I got one of these hammocks for my dd and it's great. She sleeps well in it and always looks cosy. Bit cheaper too.

kittyhas6 · 13/05/2007 13:41

these hammocks are simply wonderful. Seriously, get one if you can.
Yes, all material bits are washable

IlanaK · 13/05/2007 13:46

We have one. Used it for both ds's for their first year of life and then they both went into cotbeds. With ds1 we used it with the mattress insert. With ds2 we used it without the mattress as he was used to being carried in a sling and the material just moulded to him in the same way. It is packed away and will be used for next baby. Highly recommend it.

AitchTwoOh · 13/05/2007 13:49

you just trap the end on your knees when you're getting them in out. the best thing about them it the spring, the up and down motion rather than side to side. it's like when you were walking aound while pregnant. they fall asleep when yu bounce them up and down.

Tallis · 13/05/2007 17:34

Coo - thanks everybody v v much for your top tips. I guess the hammocks wouldn't work so well if you had other young kids around as they'd find it irresistible to go up and bounce the baby awake? not a prob for me as expecting first dc...

AitchTwoOh · 13/05/2007 17:37

the baby, when bounced, sleeps more i am glad to report. it's because (apparently) they do a lot of their sleeping when we walk about when pregnant.

McDreamy · 13/05/2007 17:42

wow they're not cheap are they!!

AitchTwoOh · 13/05/2007 17:45

i refer you to my post of Thu 10-May-07 11:31:00, mcdreamy.
actually they re-sell v well on ebay so you only lose about £50 over the course.

McDreamy · 13/05/2007 17:50

Yes but this would be baby no 3 (Once I get a BFP) and my children were good sleepers so I'm not sure DH would agree, but there's time yet!
