I am thinking of buying a Natures Nest as my last two children did not sleep well, they look great but has anyone used one, I would welcome your comments.

Wish I'd known about them a few years ago!

AitchTwoOh · 13/05/2007 17:56

my friends with kids were very [hmm[ when i bought it, but they soon piped down when she slept like an angel...

McDreamy · 13/05/2007 17:57

Thinking of a compromise and going for a hammock - are they just as good?

AitchTwoOh · 13/05/2007 17:58

i;ve not seen them but they look like they don't have that muckle great spring so just side-to-side rocking by the looks.

McDreamy · 13/05/2007 18:02

Ah ok, well maybe........I think I would have to be pregnant first!!

Caz10 · 13/05/2007 18:07

Don't worry McDreamy I am only 10 weeks, no scan yet, and am still planning to buy one ho ho! Nothing like a good bit of fantasising. And I'm quite sure you could easily sell it later too.

By the way, I am guessing you are a Grey's Anatomy fan? Last 2 episodes tonight!!!

mamascott · 14/05/2007 11:45

does this enable your baby to lie flat enough? I remember with ds1 the issue of not having him in a baby car seat for more than 2 or 3 hours as he wasn't flat enough?

NoBiggy · 14/05/2007 11:51

They're flat, not put into a sitting position as with a car seat, but sort of inclined so the head is slightly higher (provided you plonk them in the right place!). This is supposed to be a good thing.

Incidentally, am I the only one with escaping babies? I had to stop using the hammock far earlier than I'd hoped.

mamascott · 14/05/2007 12:04

sounds great, I think I'm sold! As it seems to last longer than a moses basket I'll be able to keep my son in his cot bed for longer before making up the cot for baby2!

mamascott · 14/05/2007 12:06

also - found a trader on ebay that sells them for £130, so £20 less than the RRP.

beckmo · 14/05/2007 12:34

Nobiggy-what age did yours last until?

BonyM · 14/05/2007 12:45

We had one for dd2 - absolutely fantastic. I'd probably rate it as the best thing we bought for her. She slept in it until she was about 9mths I think - when she managed to get out of it .

They're also really portable. We also took it away with several times, including to the Seychelles!

BonyM · 14/05/2007 12:47

Oh, Tallis - yes it is washable!

AitchTwoOh · 14/05/2007 12:50

9 months here too. well worth it.

lynniep · 14/05/2007 13:06

we've been using one for about 5 weeks now (ds is 10 wks) No idea if he sleeps longer than he would have done - initially it wasnt much different but now he does a 6 hour stretch on some nights.
The big difference i've found is getting him to sleep in the first place - it tends to take far less time to settle him. Thats because we can rock and bounce him gently whilst sshushing and its nice for him and makes us feel like we are doing something apart from just patting or whatever. Also he tends to wake gradually with snuffling and sometimes will bob himself back to sleep without me having to get up and do it myself.
Getting him in it I found hard at first, but now I'm practised its not too bad - just need to get your upper body in there as well to avoid 'dropping' them in it - which of course doesnt help them get to sleep!
Havent tried to take it on a trip yet- got one coming up so hoping it fits in the car ok as the bag is quite long.

NoBiggy · 14/05/2007 17:47

The bag is long, but it weighs less than a travel cot, I think.

DD1 finally escaped completely at 8 months, after several times turning herslf round the wrong way, or turning on to all 4s and getting stuck.

I've watched DD2 settle herself, looking straight up and setting up some fantastic bounces. She lasted until 6 months, as she prefers to sleep on her side. I don't mind her doing that now, it was good that the hammock prevented it to start with (she could certainly roll on to her side very early on).

Tallis · 14/05/2007 20:05

Hang on - can the baby fall out, then?! Eeek.

AitchTwoOh · 14/05/2007 20:09

they don't fall...
by nine months dd could hang onto the sides and bounce like blazes. time for a cot, methinks.

BonyM · 14/05/2007 20:55

Ummm, yes, dd did fall out at 9mths which is why we then transferred her to a cot. Didn't hurt herself though as the Amby is very close to the ground.

Probably our fault though as we'd noticed that she'd managed to turn herself over in it a couple of times so we should have moved her there and then rather than waiting for her to escape.

NoBiggy · 14/05/2007 21:15

Wasn't an accidental fall out, it was a deliberate escape!

It was quite interesting to watch (I was hiding!). From laying on her back she grabbed a fistful of each side of the hammock and got herself up to sitting. From there she got to standing in the front, which pivoted the front end downwards. Then she extended her hands out in front and leaned out, pivoting further, until her hands touched the carpet and she crawled out!

kittyhas6 · 14/05/2007 22:25

You can also get an extra strong spring if you have a heavy baby. I got one of those and was able to use it for a little longer.

bobblehead · 16/05/2007 19:12

Mine arrived yesterday

If last night was anything to go by its worth its weight in gold. Dd2 slept in it all night with just 2 feeds (1 really if you don't count 6am as a feed) normally she won't even lie next to me on the bed that long! Here's hoping tonights the same!
