Not pregnant but will hopefully be next year when we are planning to go to lapland.

I am not at all worried about travelling as i did in my first pregnancy and will hopefully be low risk anyway but as the travel agents wont take bookings for under 2's will baby be ok in the tummy because it gets down to -20/-25

I know that there must be icelantic people who get pregnant but they would be used to the cold

Thanks.

"I know that there must be icelantic people who get pregnant but they would be used to the cold "

um emotionally but not physically surely .. its not like they have a different genetic structure is it

I am sure if you keep warm baby will fine .. they are parasites remember .. its you who is going to be cold .. it will be at a constant temp

NotQuiteCockney · 06/12/2005 21:42

The baby will be fine.

I think these sorts of trips for British people take care with the weather, but as long as you have some layered clothes, you will be fine.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/12/2005 21:42

Oh, and Iceland isn't actually very cold. Not the bits people live in. You should say "Canadians" or "Siberians" or something instead.

jellyjelly · 06/12/2005 21:45

Is it canadians that live there? being that it is not near there?.

Twiglet - I was refering to them knowing how to dress well for the conditions that the weather will throw at them.

Oh, and wear a hat! If I have to listen to another bloody English person whinge about the cold while standing about in the playground bareheaded, I will scream!

Honestly, some people.

jellyjelly · 06/12/2005 21:46

And i do consider - 20 to be cold

NotQuiteCockney · 06/12/2005 21:47

Lapland is Sweden, isn't it? It's certainly not Iceland.

... looks it up ...

Ok, Lapland is in Noway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Still not Iceland, though.

HappyMumof2TurtleDoves · 06/12/2005 21:48

rofl at this thread....... sorry

NotQuiteCockney · 06/12/2005 21:48

Yes, -20 is cold. Anything under -10 is cold. You need to have all skin covered, and lots of layers. Layer your socks, even.

Of course, you probably won't be outside for too long on this sort of trip? I've never gone.

jellyjelly · 06/12/2005 21:48

Are you refering to some people as me NotQuiteCockney?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 06/12/2005 21:49

No no, I don't know if you wear a hat.

That was me going off on a tangent about English people and the weather.

followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 21:51

me too happymum!

jellyjelly · 06/12/2005 21:52

Fine, i will be wearing a hat.scarf, gloves and plenty of layers but we will be out for a few hours as you do on this sort of trip, going on sleedges, snowmen building and lots of other outdoor things.

I actually like the cold as does my son, but i would want to protect them as best as i could.

sl

followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 21:53

when are you going jellyjelly?

Twiglett · 06/12/2005 21:54

I'm sorry .. but 'they know how to dress well'

is it not fairly obvious? if in any doubt would you not seek advice about how best to dress

I am not trying to be perverse, I fail to see the issue here

HappyMumof2TurtleDoves · 06/12/2005 21:55

rofl again

followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 21:56

i would actually avoid going during their winter... won't it be dark the whole time? and wouldn't take a child if it was going to be -30!

jellyjelly · 06/12/2005 22:00

It is to go and see Santa so it will be in December.

OP posts:
followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 22:01

well today it has only been -5 in lapland! so you should be ok

jellyjelly · 06/12/2005 22:02

Twiglett -tell me where can i get a big Animal skin coat like they wear before i go?

OP posts:
followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 22:03

from what i can see online, a lot of places doing santa holidays will provide you with "extreme weather clothing"... check that the people you book with do that.
otherwise make sure you buy some niec warm ski-wear type stuff!

jellyjelly · 06/12/2005 22:04

thankyou followthestarlover, i didnt know that they would lent clothing.

OP posts:
Twiglett · 06/12/2005 22:05

jeez

you're planning on taking a 3 year old to Lapland to see Santa .. well that's hardly for the 3 year olds benefit is it? its more for yours because you fancy it and think it would give a good photo-opportunity

if it is making you panic a year in advance and you're not even pregnant, here's a wild thought .. don't go
