he's seeming way to comfortable. no movements, he was 3/5, but now it's looking like he's popped back up again, am currently 39 w DS had been born by now, can only really sleep properly on my right side (not good I know) MW says I can have a sweep next week if needed but only after i'm over.

consultant next friday (which coincidentally is also the day i'm apparently going to pick up my keys for my new house.)

DP has isssshooos over dtd, ie he thinks my waters may go mid flow so that's out the question, walks are not really working, as have been on the go since friday and nada big movements but not action stations.

oh & not liking pineapple, or hot curries - just really really not wanting a big baby, ie 9lb plus. :(

None of it works. No research has ever found a link between sex, curries, walking, ingesting semen etc and going into labour. For every woman that says something worked for her, you'll find a million for whom it didn't. And a million more who went into labour while sleeping/sitting/eating chocolate.

Babies come when they're ready and that's the way nature designed it. All you do when trying to naturally induce labour is end up knackered, bloated and frustrated. You'd be better off finding ways of trying to enjoy those last days than trying to replicate a specific chemical thing which happens between your body and the baby.

Chemical induction in hospital can be hard enough and that's because you aren't supposed to be able to interfere with what is a natural process. And if any of it worked then it'd all be banned pre-37 weeks.

And when did rlt start being linked to induction. It's a uterine tonic, no more less.

I'm also very pregnant so understand how uncomfortable it is. But really it's all bollocks.

CBear6 · 16/08/2011 08:14

Yes, it's all bollocks but it's still fun to try it - or am
I doing the sex thing wrong?! Wink

davidtennantsmistress · 16/08/2011 08:17

:o saul goud,

well even dtd didn't work. :( so far nor has ball bouncing, i'm getting the feeling that DS was an impatient lil (was trying to hold his head up from the miniute he popped it out & was on my shoulder,) like both his dad & I, stubborn as well little gremlin, but this one I have a horrid feeling is going to be stubborn like us both but patient & laid back like DP instead of impatient like me. :o

reflexology - think i'll have a look into that to see if there's a local one - can't hurt to have a look at the weekend for it.

OP posts:
davidtennantsmistress · 16/08/2011 08:18

lindy - have you been advised on the size of the baby (althou that's all a load of bollox I think as well as it seems to be a bit of guess work)

OP posts:
Ilovekittyelise · 16/08/2011 08:31

CBear6 - I will also be 37 weeks on sunday and joining you in operation get the hell out of here little baby! (or probably, giant, enormous fanny ripping headed baby and i make no apologies for my crude diction). i will be induced at 39+3 if hes not out so imperative that i at least encourage him. so far:

evening primrose capsules (1000mg) morning and night. apparently soften cervix and make it dilate more easily....
as of the weekend supposedly one evening primrose capsule up the fanny nightly (did this once, just make icky stinky mess)
as of next week, acupuncture.

as flisspaps says im sure none of this work, but at this stage need a small irrational hope that i wont be pregnant forever. at the moment im envisaging years to come where im actually still carrying a 7 year old in my womb...

maybe someone should start a thread 'operation get 'em out'

CBear6 · 16/08/2011 09:16

Operation get 'em out may need a disclaimer in the first post or else goodness knows what sort of things we'll have people whipping out :o

I'm adding laughter to the list of theories. Laughing gives me Braxton Hicks so I'm working on the idea that if I laugh hard enough I'll pop. Either that or I'll pee myself. Hopefully the first one, I'll need to research it. Ditto DS's buggy, pushing it (or the trolley in Asda) triggers them. If a 28lb toddler can trigger BHs then getting DH to sit in the buggy or trolley while I push it should multiply that reaction.

I know when thing though, when I go into labour this time I'll be having two paracetamol followed by a bath and then I'll be going to bed for a nice sleep unlike last time where I got all excited and stayed awake for two nights of slow labour Hmm

SaulGood · 16/08/2011 09:23

The sex bit's probably quite enjoyable if you want to do it. But the number of times I see 'right had curry and been for a long walk, my hips bloody hurt and I've got horrendous heartburn and I'm miserable' and I think fgs, it doesn't work. It's nice to feel like you're doing something and of course if you fancy curry and a walk it's not going to hurt but I've seen too many rl friends and people on here exhausting themselves, doing ridiculous things like necking castor oil and then ending up demoralised and achy by the time labour comes round.

I'm going to start an internet rumour that chocolate and lying on the sofa starts labour. At least then heavily pg women would get some peace.

davidtennantsmistress · 16/08/2011 09:30

:o cbear, yes that sounds good to me. with DS I was pacing the floors, in the bath out the bath v restless, this time I plan on going for a walk & basically relaxing as long as possible.

soul - as does sitting eating choc on the sofa - althou that's prob why this little gremlin's got so comfortable. :o i'm not a fan of curry's per se so none of those for me, the tea i've not liked same with pineapple, so my only options are the sex & walks - oh with DS XH & I had a huge row the night before and I took the dogs on a 2 hour walk on the sunday - but even loads of walks gardening & moving boxes about isn't helping this time.

OP posts:
CBear6 · 16/08/2011 09:38

SaulGood, I'm going to start some serious research on your sofa/chocolate theory. My feet are up and I have a Twix and a cuppa. I may need to run this experiment several times :)

blueShark · 16/08/2011 09:46

Sex did the trick with the DC1 - waters broke 30 mins after and I had DC at 39+2. Membrane sweep worked with DC2, born 12 hours after with short labour of 2h at 39+4.
Had a membrane sweep yesterday (as well as sex, pineapple, an hour walk, going up and down the stairs about 50 times, RL tea, reflexology) and not a sign that DC3 is ready to come. Another sweep tomorrow and induction booked on Friday.
So I conclude really they do come out when ready and all methods work if they are ready to come out.

SaulGood · 16/08/2011 09:53

"all methods work if they are ready to come out" or no methods work and they just come out when they're ready anyway. Grin

I'm doing the control test of gingerbread and decaff earl grey. I have my feet up on a birthing ball which may or may not be relevant and the tv remote is in my right hand. Will report back.

JenniferYellowHatsRedLingerie · 16/08/2011 11:09

Saul I'm following your "get the baby out" regime.
Friends on the telly, caramel shortbread in one hand, cup of (decaff) tea on the coffee table that is going cold cos I can't reach it , cat on my lap... Sweeeeeeeeeet :)

davidtennantsmistress · 16/08/2011 15:55

:o haven't quite done that today, but I'm going to give up I think, dtd nada, walked nada, nakers to this baby I think he'll come next tuesday - or actually knowing my bloody luck next friday as that's the day i'm meant to be signing for some new house keys - you can see it now! lol. plus DS is with his dad from saturday & i'd rather have him home.

OP posts:
littlemissw · 16/08/2011 16:33

40+2 here & I'm with you SaulGood . Relax & just make the most of the last few days of peace & calm before the hard work really starts. :)

lucindapie · 16/08/2011 17:05

I'm 40 + 2, and so far tried lots of walking, bouncing on birthing ball, and dtd, nothing has worked so far! I am having lots of braxton hicks so sure my body is warming up and getting ready, but I do share the IloveKittyElise that I will be pregnant forever! I'm giving the baby one more day to come and then will try a hypnosis mp3 from 'Hypnobabies' called baby come out, apparently it has been used to great success!

blueShark · 16/08/2011 19:30

second sweep tomorrow at 11, wish me luck everyone, hoping it will work before I am induced on Friday

davidtennantsmistress · 17/08/2011 09:06

good luck blue. I'm pretty sure mine's dropped down again, the top is totally spongey now, never know weekend maybe looking good (esp as i've just booked with DP for one last date night out in town lol)

OP posts:
blueShark · 17/08/2011 09:59

thanks mistress. Hopefully you get to enjoy the night out too :) Off to the day assessment unit, hopefully the midwife/doctor will have longer fingers this time :)

emjay74 · 17/08/2011 10:22

Wishing all you ladies in waiting all the best!

Personally (after going overdue 3 times) think all the curry/DTD/pineapple/raspberry leaf etc etc etc are a load of rubbish! You have more chance of going into labour from having something planned...not packing your bag...not having shaved your legs! I had lasagne the night before my last 13 day overdue DD arrived...was it that? The 4 sweeps I'd had?? Or was she cooked and ready to be born?? Grin

One little bit of advice I can offer is that overdue babies can have really dry skin...to the point of cracking and bleeding so it's a good idea to have some olive oil for them...the most effective and natural thing I have found for a newborn's skin.

Well, I'm 30wks now and this chocolate/sofa thing sounds a bit tricky to master so i'm off to start some research into the technique! :)

davidtennantsmistress · 17/08/2011 10:25

:o see that's why I was never sure with DS, by my dates he was due mid march, by the scans due 3rd march, and arrived 23rd feb - BUT 3 weeks prior to getting my BFP with him I had anotehr BFP and a heavy bleed a week or so later, we assumed that i'd had a M?C, however when he was born he had dry skin btu was also jaundice, so no idea what went on.

(am currently on the sofa thou eating home made cakes in abundance)

JenniferYellowHatsRedLingerie · 17/08/2011 18:31

So.
Due date today. And not a skippy thing happening.
Decided enough of sitting round the house, I was having some due date treats :) so I've been and bought new clothes, some nice make-up and had my feet nibbled by those wierd fish.
Hasn't made a jot of difference to what she's doing, but I'm bloody knackered, so maybe at least I'll sleep more than 2 hours in a row tonight. And you know what? I'm going to have a bloody big glass of Wine with my dinner (if I ever get it made cos I've well underestimated the amount of pastry I need for my pie!)
Sweep on Monday at 40+5. Induction next Friday at 40+9. goddamnit baby, I think it's very rude that you don't want to come out and meet me!

davidtennantsmistress · 18/08/2011 08:53

:o jen - indeed how rude, don't they know we've gained weight & stretch marks for them. :o

OP posts:
blueShark · 18/08/2011 22:07

ok, second sweep worked followed by 2 hours gardening and playing with the older DC. Waters broke at midnight and at 4am today my princess arrived. 12 hours later and we are home, both well and happy bonding with the family. So I escaped induction by a day!

Wishing all the best to all that are still expecting, but membrane sweep (a good one the second time which I felt, the first one was a pat to my cervix compared to the second) followed by being active did the trick.

JenniferYellowHatsRedLingerie · 18/08/2011 22:19

Aw blueshark that's lovely news! Well done and congratulations :)
Still nothing happening here, but feel decidedly off colour today - bit sickly, very tired, pelvis and back hurting like no-one's business, very very active baby, intermittent low pains that I've not felt before. So here's hoping that something's starting, even if it is slowly.
I see you're posting on other threads davidtennantsmistress so nothing going on for you either? All those people on our antenatal thread are making me v jealous with their babies.
Saul the caramel shortbread relaxing thing's going ok, how did the gingerbread work out for you?! :)

Mumswang · 18/08/2011 22:24

I went on a swing 2 days past my due date, with no signs of anything happening any time soon and moments later had a contraction. DD was born (waters intact) 6 hrs later

It's worth a go, and the sight if a heavily pregnant woman on a swing is always cheering Smile
