Okay, my skin looks terrible as even scratching when sleeping.

Everywhere is itching like ad, so much it's almost unbearable and I didn't think I could end up with any more problems this pg!

Can someone help and maybe give me some advice? I have no idea really what this is and need some tips for the itching.

I have tried piriton and calamine... Really not working.

Thanks.

A quick hi
When are the tests being redone?

SchrodingersMew · 25/08/2011 08:36

They wont re do the tests. :( Because they already done them once.

Went to see my Consultant yesterday who immediately sent me to dermatology (probably because my foot was gushing blood), they said they don't think it's PUPPP because I don't have blisters and tried to say it's worst in my stretchmarks (it clearly isn't, you can tell just by looking my feet and legs are the worst). They said that it is itch of pregnancy Hmm and that it wont go away until he is born and all they can do is try and make me more comfortable. They put lots of cream and soothing tubigrips on me (mainly so I can't scratch) and said it should start working instantly. It didn't unfortunately it was worse than ever last night but I have to see them up to 3 times a week.

Literally about ready for jumping off a building. I can't live like this for much longer. :'(

Schrodinger itch of pregnancy sounds like a catch all phrase for 'we don't actually know what it is but this sounds like a convienent answer for you'

SchrodingersMew · 25/08/2011 15:20

That's exactly what I thought.

Of course it's bloody "itch of pregnancy"! If I wasn't pregnant I wouldn't be bloody itchy!! Grrr. Hmm

I've done some searching and I think I have this:

"Papular dermatitis of pregnancy
Abnormal blood hormone levels are linked with this disorder especially chronically raised levels of gonadotrophins (hormones produced by the pituitary gland of the brain, and which regulate sex hormone levels) and lowered cortisol and oestrogen levels.
Symptoms and signs
What: an extremely itchy rash consisting of red, raised spots that look like insect bites. Crusts (scabs) cover some of these spots. The spots do not collect in groups.
Where: all over the body.
When: this rash can erupt at any time during pregnancy and then spots continue to appear until childbirth when they clear rapidly.
Complications
This condition causes no complications in the mother, but studies suggest that foetal death rates are increased.
Treatment
High doses of corticosteroids are necessary."

Mainly because I have those little scabby dots but they keep telling me it's probably from scratching. Angry

I'll be printing off that description and bringing it with me because it sounds like me too. I don't think they like it when you recommend what it might be :( too bad!

SchrodingersMew · 25/08/2011 15:47

I just phoned them and recommended it and they immediately excluded it and said I would be covered in massive lesions. :( Hmm

OP posts:
PamBeesly · 25/08/2011 16:01

When I was first seen they said I had lesions and wheals, then another dermatologist came in and said they were in fact not lesions....they were both dermatologists and couldn't agree Hmm

SchrodingersMew · 25/08/2011 16:09

Yeah, I have had Drs say I have a rash then another one come in and say "no those are caused by scratching" even though I know for a fact I keep getting little itchy bumps now.

No one seems to be able to agree with each other.

Gp wanted me re tested for OC, Consultant thought I had PUPPP, Derms think it is "itch of pregnancy" and are saying it's worst in stretch marks when I have massive cuts on my feet from scratching. Hmm I don't have stretch marky feet btw. :o

Couldn't get anymore frustrating. Angry I feel your pain!

Stretch marky feet! Grin could you imagine!!!
I think your GP is right, you should be re-tested both blood and urine (if thats the way to test) every week because they really don't know what is going on and you are in intense turmoil, thats what it is turmoil.
I try to maintain a sense of humour but when I've had 2 or 3 hrs sleep its hard, I don't think I could bear it if they tell me persevere with the aqueous cream, its torture

SchrodingersMew · 25/08/2011 17:18

I really don't think they will tell you to persevere with the aqueous cream, I mentioned to a Dr the other day I was given it and they pulled a face and said "why? That's just moisturiser".

I just had a bath in porridge and dandelion tea.... It actually felt quite good. :o

I know what you mean about sleep, I don't know how they expect you to function.

On the plus side, the steroidy cream seems to be making my stretch marks disappear! at least it's good for one thing eh? :o

Do you just throw the porridge oats into the bath? I might do that, I tried the Aveeno with oats in it but it didn't help, maybe bathing in it would. Its only 7pm and the itch is starting already :( At least its hometime, this day at work went very slowly

SchrodingersMew · 25/08/2011 19:09

I put like a full box of porridge in, I think you're just meant to use a cup though and not sure how you're actually meant to put it in but I just dunked it in and kind of used it as a scrub, IYSWIM?

I'm still itchy but not quite as bad. Mind, I put dandelion tea in as well and used dermol shower gel.

Try having a bath in it, can't do any harm can it?

try stuffing a cut-off leg of an old pair of tights with the oats. Then you won't have to scoop soggy porridge out of the tub Wink

I used to leave the oaty water in the bath overnight so I could jump in at 3am if it got really bad

SchrodingersMew · 25/08/2011 19:41

Spout Leaving the water in the bath in case you need to get up sounds like a brilliant idea!

:o Thank you!
