I'm 34+2 and sleep is slowly becoming a distant memory....I've given up for tonight I think, sleeping on my left results in a dead hip/leg pain, sleeping on my right results in a kicking from my darling baby and seems to bring on heartburn - and sleeping on my back is not possible with this bowling ball on my front!
All my tossing and turning only makes my SPD pain worse - and wakes up my poor DH so we're both knackered and snappy the next day. I know everyone says this is preparation for the big event - but I need a rest!

Anyone else the same?? I've got physio at 9am today, praying for a miracle solution...

Morning all :)

Had a lovely couple of days away with DH - so relaxing. Sleep was a bit worse than at home, bed was bit too soft I think so SPD flared up and was up 3-4 times per night. Able to lie in though so not too bad.

Last night I kept myself awake with my own heavy breathing! I think all the weight on my lungs means my breathing is a lot louder than normal. Also, I've decided that sleeping on my left is the worst for my hips/SPD, but my right brings on heartburn....SPD it is then.

Glad the heat has calmed down now :) Hope all are getting some sleep at some point in the day - yey for mat leave starting!

Hi Misty glad you had a nice break. I agree re left side / right side and heartburn. A word to the wise - Chinese takeaway gave me such bad heartburn last night I had to take myself off to try to sleep sitting up in my favourite armchair and avoid waking the whole house.

voodoomunkee · 10/08/2011 13:44

Glad you had a nice break Misty, even with the niggles!

I honestly am contemplating where I can sleep instead of bed. Either that or I need a new routine. Maybe I need to do a relaxing bath (what can I put in thats meant to relax?!) some sort of drink (ovaltine/horlicks?) and a quiet darkened room. I dont think it helps that I am woken by the dog, my 13 year old dc1 who stays up later than me, my OH (ditto staying up later), needing the loo, being kicked whilst needing the loo and I swear sometimes waking up wondering why I havent been woken up and is everything ok!

I am so tired, all the time. But never sleepy I have discovered.

firsttimer84 · 10/08/2011 14:35

Same boat! I'm tired all day then as soon as I lie down to sleep, I can't!! The only thing that works for my indigestion is the gaviscon liquid. Dr says that the liquid is a lot better than the tablets as the liquid floods the bit that needs calming. Plus you can feel it actually soothing the burn away. Wish it tasted nicer though!

dozyrosie · 10/08/2011 19:13

I'm 15+3 and have had insomnia and a snoring DH since week 6, but after reading all this I am dreading things only getting worse. Especially as I suffer epileptic seizures if extremely sleep deprived / run-down. Are there any herbal sleep remedy safe to take while PG?

harassedandherbug · 11/08/2011 12:45

Urghhh absolutely exhausted today and most of it is self inflicted! My preg yoga class doesn't run over the summer hols so we've been taking ourselves off to the pub for a gossip instead. Time flies when you're gossiping though.... didn't get home until 10.30, couldn't get straight to sleep and now shattered!

Have invested in a v-pillow and that's been a big help.

firsttimer I also find the liquid better. Can't stand the texture of tablets tbh, and still suffering from ms at 21 weeks!

ssmile · 11/08/2011 14:14

After you done all the physical things like extra pillows &lying on soft stuff the most helpful thing I've found is ways to turn of my very active mind. With 1st preg I used preg yoga, deep breathing almost meditation before bed. This preg best £11 I spent has been a natal hypnotherapy cd for my ipod. It works a treat to relax &drift me off no matter what time night or day. By Maggie Howell. Seriously no matter how sceptical you are I'd give it a try if you really are struggling with sleep. Look on eBay or amazon.

A friend who suffered with SPD and insomnia found a duvet under the bedsheet really made her more comfey. Personally I'd suggest being a harvest widow and anemia - cant settle till hubby is back from the tractor and am so exhausted from anemia that I am only waking up once or twice for wee/ cramp/restless legs at 29+4

Hi all

I'm trying the tire myself out tactic Grin in the hope I'll drop off easily from sheer fatigue....not that I'm doing much with my days now I'm on mat leave.

howabout the list of things I've been avoiding due to heartburn-inducing tendencies is making eating a pain in the arse - and chinese takeaway is already on there :) as is, tomatoes, spicy food, anything remotely flavoursome... oh, and most sweet things too Biscuit. Combined with wheat-intolerance it's been fun.

Really fed up with sleeping on my left due to SPD pain - tried the right again last night but just gave me heartburn as usual... :( grrr.

Best be off to the land of nod (albeit briefly no doubt) hope not to speak to you all later Grin and wishing all a good one

grrr. Over-active imagination/vivid dreams and can't sleep :( Didn't even need the loo (but did once I got up and gravity took over).

Hope all are sleeping peacefully

Grrr saw every hr last night. Had vuncomfy early eve rock hardtum then DD woke every 20mins from 11pm-1am having bad dreams till I had enough pleaded with her to go back to sleep. Which she did, then bladder &wind kicked in, then baby kicking, then DH got up for loo, then DD knocked something out of her bed with loud bang, then she was up singing loudly at 6am...... Grrr I not going to be a happy bunny today I feel. At least should be able to get a nap latter as DH taking DD out.
Hope u all did better....

Misty9 · 13/08/2011 09:01

know how you feel :( (not the already having a child part but the crap sleep part).
Was up from 2.30pm til 5am - tried to get back to sleep but had blocked up nose. Then in the 3hrs I did get I seem to have aggravated my SPD and my groin feels like it's been stamped on by a horse :(

Can't face another 3-5wks of this... It'll be a day of curling up on the sofa and napping when I can.

OP posts:
ssmile · 13/08/2011 12:31

Oh dear misty hope ur nap helps. I think I coping better this time just because my body has had 4.5yrs of disrupted sleep :o your body is amazing its not easy but you do.cope with it because you have no choice. And the rewards must be worth it otherwise we wouldn't be doing all again!

Misty9 · 14/08/2011 12:29

ssmile I sincerely hope the rewards are worth it! :)

It's getting beyond a joke now - up three times last night: horrible heartburn, peeing, and finally drenched in sweat at 6am :( finally came downstairs to sleep sat up on the sofa and managed an hour until next door started hoovering. I'm gonna try all night on the sofa tonight and see how I get on...

Full term tomorrow - come on baby, I don't mind if you're the youngest in your year anymore!

Gd luck tonight misty9 I spent large chunk of my DD preg sleeping uprightish on the sofa in a nest of pillows and it really helped me. If u on maternity leave now I'd just go with the flow &sleep when u tired as that's what u end up doing when baby arrives ;)
I getting fed up with it all now at 37+2d and really ready for the end now vglad I'm booked in @39wks for section as last time I did another 5wks at this point no idea how I managed it!

ssmile · 15/08/2011 09:13

Shattered this morn saw every hr in night again not helped by DD waking up 11.30pm &5am but she just made me laugh as I was resting on the bed she staggered in saying "oh my baby due soon mummy 2yrs but its feet keep popping out!" She had one dolly up her dress the other its 'twin' she was walking in other hand as she couldn't push her buggy as 'baby' keeps falling out of my tummy mummy :o

Misty9 · 18/08/2011 04:19

aarrghhh - here I am again :(

She is always worse around the full moon maybe it affects our bumps too? Lucky she at preschool today so can have a catch up nap today.
