I'm 34+2 and sleep is slowly becoming a distant memory....I've given up for tonight I think, sleeping on my left results in a dead hip/leg pain, sleeping on my right results in a kicking from my darling baby and seems to bring on heartburn - and sleeping on my back is not possible with this bowling ball on my front!
All my tossing and turning only makes my SPD pain worse - and wakes up my poor DH so we're both knackered and snappy the next day. I know everyone says this is preparation for the big event - but I need a rest!

Anyone else the same?? I've got physio at 9am today, praying for a miracle solution...

I'd miss you if you started sleeping properly again!
Broke out Rennies before bed yesterday and all the belching before I went to sleep seems to have had a great effect!

EDD24may · 30/07/2011 05:20

Spd not sod...

howabout · 30/07/2011 05:40

I'll have to see about that when DD3 arrives EDD24may as DD2 has inherited my insomniac tendencies.

Did you really mean SPD is a sod? Although I can confirm that the other 2 times my SPD disappeared instantly after giving birth. Nothing like pregnancy to make you appreciate the mysteries of the workings of the human body.

Misty9 · 30/07/2011 22:45

Off to bed....wish me luck :)

EDD that is good to hear!

howabout this pregnancy malarky is v glamorous eh?? Grin

Good luck misty. My neighbours have had most of europe at their house all afternoon for a full scale rave up which is showing no signs of slowing down..... Think it's going to be an earplugs night over here :(

Misty9 · 06/08/2011 03:54

Urgh, heartburn. How's everyone else sleeping?? It's gone quiet on here so hopefully that means things have improved?

Chomping on rennies then off to try and ignore my dead left hip and sleep some more.... Definitely rate the v-shaped pillow though :)

Hi Misty, I've been staying in my bed of late as had relatives camped in the living room. Taking my Rennies 2 hours before bed seems to be helping me a bit and leads to belching fit to outdo my DH Smile.

DD got up at 5am though so may need a hammer for her!

voodoomunkee · 06/08/2011 17:06

Heya all, just catching up on threads. No, sleep isn't much better if am honest! Am craving a full nights sleep (and a very drunken night out, unlikely for at least another 5 years...). If it isnt the heat keeping me awake it is the heartburn/carpal tunnel/OH/DD. I am just contemplating a saturday tea time snooze in the hope that if I don't sleep again tonight that I have at least had an hour today!

How is everyone else getting on?

Taffybird · 06/08/2011 19:37

Wish I'd found this discussion weeks ago! I was prepared for things like morning sickness, lethargy and weird cravings but nobody ever warned me about the insomnia! I'm now 39wks so it's a bit late to join in but I can sympathise with just about everyone here. I've had the hip pain, heartburn, needing to go to the loo 3 or 4 times a night, couldn't get comfy in any position, stuffy nose, getting too hot. Then there was lying awake worrying about keeping DH awake.

I've dealt with the worst of it all with my little bump-wedge cushion, lots of Rennies and a combination of a water spray and a good electric fan. But the worst thing has been snoring. I don't mean DH - I mean me. I've always had a tendency to "purr" in my sleep in certain positions or if I've been drinking. But virtually since the start of this pregnancy I've had a tight-feeling and "sticky" throat that makes me snore really loudly. Loud enough to wake myself up just as I start to doze off. I've moved into the spare room now; there was no hope of poor DH ever getting to sleep otherwise. The doc says I might have obstructive sleep apnoea which has been exacerbated by the pregnancy. I'm to go back for further tests after the birth and in the meantime use a prescribed nasal spray and avoid sleeping on my back (chance would be a fine thing!) I really, really hope it improves after the birth otherwise I'll be keeping the poor bub awake as well :-(

voodoomunkee · 06/08/2011 20:06

Ah Taffy, hopefully this pregnancy related sleep stuff will be a distant memory for you soon! Sounds horrid the sleep apnoea, my OH has it (obvs not pg related!) so quite often when I am lying awake maybe just having a good old fret he will then go silent and I am in two minds whether to kick him to see he is still ok or relish the silence! Lol poor OH!

I so do not remember in my last 2 pregnancies that I was unable to sleep for more than three hours at a time! Nodded off for an hour before, woke up feeling knackered and irritable! Happy days!

LDNmummy · 06/08/2011 20:17

Oh OP I could cry Sad

Just this morning I was in so much pain in both my hips. It wakes me up constantly and I keep having to turn over to avoid the pain being too much in one hip, but then apparently this just makes it worse!

Whichever side I lie on my LO kicks so much I either cannot sleep or wake up (although I am secretly happy about this because It lets me know she is OK in there). I instinctively stretch during sleep and when I wake which leaves me open to all sorts of cramp and pulled muscle issues.

And yes the heartburn/ indigestion and acid reflux. Plus, I HAVE STARTED SNORING the last few weeks which also wakes me!

I just focus on this being the home stretch and the lovely little bundle I will have at the end Smile

Hi. I suffered just like you misty9 with my 1st preg spent half of it sitting up right on the sofa dozing. With this preg (i 36wks today) I've slept SO much better. The biggest help has been sleeping on top of doubled over duvet so its vsoft on hips, pillow between knees to ankles & my £11 natal hypno birth CD the relaxing talk &music on my Ipod with in 10mins whatever the time of night I seem to be able to drop of again. I am still getting up 2/3x a night &DD still wakes in night but the techniques on th cd relax me back to sleep vquickly. My DD took 4yrs to sleep through the night with any consistency so I've had lots of sleepless nights but teaching my mind to relax has been big help. Gd luck.

Misty9 · 06/08/2011 23:22

Welcome to the new fellow insomniacs (new to the thread anyway) :)

Yep, I've got the doubled-up double duvet under the sheet, plus three pillows for my head (to head off heartburn) and the v-shaped pillow between knees and under bump. Bed is a mission!

Not had the snoring though...don't envy that one. Ohh, and stretching LDNmummy - I MISS doing that! Have to stop myself in the morning or I pull things in my bump too.

Taffy it's never too late to join in - although you've got less time to go you lucky thing.

I've had a new night-time affliction to add to the list - trapped wind [ouch]. Wheat-intolerant but thought better expose poppyseed to some....won't be doing that again.

Feeling tired now, so that's a good sign. Managing to get back to sleep after loo-trips/rennie chomping and possibly getting used to the broken sleep pattern. Woke myself and DH up this morning by vigorously shaking my head - was part of a dream I was having Grin weird...

Good luck for tonight everyone :)

This the worst time for me, something wajes me between 3/4 and then I can't get back to sleep [grr]

lolajane2009 · 07/08/2011 07:22

i managed to nod off at 1 and woke at 5am. Seems to be 4hrs norm atm. Currently 34 weeks and going slowly insane as if it isn't the baby waking me it is my bladder.

ssmile · 07/08/2011 07:47

My DH has been sleeping on the sofa during the wk which has really helped me but last night decided he wanted to share the bed again. result I woke up more often and yes 4am is my regular wake up time too,but I did manage to drift of again with ipod sitting upright propped on my beanbag &pillows in bed. from 1st preg the times I wake up 12, 2, 4am, were all baby feeding times for months so think body is getting ready in advance!
Ho hum.... sleep deprivation is bad enough whenbaby arrives no body tells u that it starts wks before hand.
hope u can all get some little naps in daytime. a 20min power nap is my secret to coping even when DD(4.5yrs)is watching Ceebeebies I nod off sometimes whilst she is cuddling up :o

voodoomunkee · 07/08/2011 09:02

Ah 3/4am is my worst time too! Saying that, I woke briefly at 3.30 and must have gone straight back over! Didn't get up til about 8.30, still tired but pleased that I've slept right through! I seem to have about 6 hours sleep for the most part!

Hope people got some sleep last night!

Misty9 · 07/08/2011 09:40

Not too bad last night - woken up by some idiot people talking loudly outside the window at 3.40am, then my bladder called, but got back off without too much trouble. I LOVE daytime naps - seem to find it so much easier to snooze in daylight :) On mat leave now, so will be doing lots of that.

Off for a last romantic getaway today for two nights - superkingsize bed Grin

Have a lovely time Misty!

lolajane2009 · 07/08/2011 21:55

lol, fell asleep twice during the day. The first time I nearly was late to something I wanted to attend. It is so hard to fight sleep when it finally arrives.

ssmile · 07/08/2011 22:13

Have fab time misty.
I appear to be turning into a night owl! Am vtired 1-3pm after lunch but wide awake 10pm when normally I'm a fast asleep before 10pm person as up at 6am most mornings.
Hope u all get some sleep tonight. I'm trying duvet ontop sleep bag tonight to help hip. Feel like princess n pea :o but its lovely n soft zzzz

ssmile · 08/08/2011 08:45

Duvet on top of sleeping bag on top of memory foam topper was lovely on my hip, alas my DD was up 2-4am with bad dreams so tad tired as I was 'on duty' last night my DH &i take it in turn. Hopefully I will be able to get cat nap later.

Taffybird · 09/08/2011 12:45

If anyone is being keps awake by a stuffy nose and congested feeling in the throat and sinuses, I recommend some spicy enchilladas for dinner. I had some last night which were a bit hotter than I'd normally have. They made my nose run like a tap for an hour afterwards and I really needed my bedtime Rennies but it must have cleared something out because I slept like the dead (until my bladder woke me at 4am, but I went straight back to sleep.)

superjobee · 09/08/2011 13:57

28 + 3 here and havent slept thru the night for about 3 weeks, now i cant even sleep when i get into bed takes me upto 3 hrs :( ive taken to napping around tea time as i can sleep then but not at night Hmm

harassedandherbug · 09/08/2011 14:24

I'm only 20 weeks and haven't had a good nights sleep since before my bfp. Trouble sleeping is always a give-away that I'm preg for me!

I've also started getting spd twinges and sore hips. Great! Combined with the heartburn it's just a nightmare. I'm very glad that it's not so hot now though.

I also have a stuffed up nose and am using Sterimar spray. Dh has major sinus probs and this was recommended by his consultant. It's safe to use in pregnancy.

I've just got a v-shaped pillow and that's great, and also combining it with other pillows for dodgy hip but it's such a pfaff to turn over!!

I swear as soon as I drop off properly the flaming alarm goes. At 5.30am for dh to go training . I'm on the count down to ml.... 17 weeks and 3 days max!
