Craving a cold pork pie straight from the pack! Can I?

Surely I can, can't I?
It has to be cold from the pack, you know Melton Mowbray, or from a supermarket deli. I want that jelly stuff! I know it would be fine to eat a pork pie that's reheated and "piping hot" but I don't want that!
Please advise me - I am going mad! Confused

Gosh I craved these around 14 weeks...I was eating them IN the supermarket and scanning empty packets....my blood ran cold when I read your title, I was scared about what I was going to read.

Then again I had pate on toast last week. I'm rebellious like that.

lookout · 10/07/2011 19:57

When pate on toast is considered living on the edge, you really do know you're pregnant, eh?! Grin

YellowingWallpaper · 10/07/2011 20:02

Grin I don't even feel bad.

lovemysleep · 10/07/2011 20:21

oh bugger, now I want one....

crackerqueen · 10/07/2011 20:32

LOL Cattleprod! I wish your mucous plug observation would put me off but it hasn't! My MP with DD1 didn't quite look like that but I know what you mean!

I had another two mini pork pies with my dinner, accompanied by a fab potato salad TrinaLuciusMalfoy! I'll take some more in to work tomorrow for my lunch. I'm hoping this craving will be over and done with soon and I'll want spinach or steak or something vaguely nutritious for LO instead.

I suppose pork pies are protein though!

yellowingwallpaper - Your posts have cracked me up! Scanning empty packets! Hee Hee! My craving for pork pies also started at 14wks, but I've only just given in now at 17wks. Have you had your LO yet? If so, boy or girl?

I'm amazed at how many of us have craved this Brit favourite!

crackerqueen - I thought I was weird for craving these, so funny to see I'm in good company, and lots of it!

yellowingwallpaper - you really are rebellious Grin

YellowingWallpaper · 10/07/2011 21:10

Ha! No not had this one yet. For what it's worth I had a boy 18 months ago and did not crave fatty processed jellied meats. Not that it means anything. Didn't find out the sex and not doing so this time, so you'll have to find something else to measure up to! (Yes, Cracker, I see your game).

crackerqueen · 10/07/2011 21:26

Hee hee! Thanks yellowingwallpaper! I won't be finding out the sex of LO this time either. Am so curious though - maybe I should.

Wish I had the guts to just eat pate/Camembert/Parma ham/prawns straight from the pack instead of moaning about not being able to because of Listeria etc.

Thank goodness for all the sensible women on here putting me straight about pork pies!

I am thinking of getting off the train a stop early tomorrow so that I can call in at m&s on my way to work and get a pork pie for brekkie-would that be wrong??

PinkFondantFancy · 10/07/2011 22:09

I don't know what I'm having either btw!

JenniL1977 · 10/07/2011 22:48

best pork pies in the world. Honestly

lookout · 11/07/2011 07:47

PinkFondantFancy, definitely not wrong.
JenniL1977, my problem with this right now is that I'd have to wait for it to be delivered and I need one TODAY Grin

PinkFondantFancy · 11/07/2011 07:54

I'm thinking that pork pies might be the reason why I'm apparently also pregnant in my arms and bum given the increase in size.... Confused hehe worth it though mmmmmmm yum!

crackerqueen · 11/07/2011 15:55

jenniL1977 - A pork pie wedding cake! That's worth renewing my vows for! Wow! PinkFondantFancy - I look a lot more than my 17wks pregnant due to my chunky arms etc. I can't blame the pork pies though as I only gave into them on Saturday!

Us pregnant pork pie lovers are in great company!

crackerqueen I know, I couldn't get DH to agree to it for our wedding last year, dammit! But my staff got me one for my birthday. Best cake ever :)
I've had 4 pork pies today now. You're a bad, bad woman to start this thread! :)

lookout · 11/07/2011 20:28

Thanks to this thread I was this afternoon a proud owner of a pack of snack pork pies. This evening I am now the satiated owner of several hundred extra calories and grammes of fat. Mmmmmmmmmelton Mowbray.....

whenwill · 11/07/2011 21:18

what's wrong with you all/with me?! i'm having to pant through the nausea just reading this thread, trying to find those who felt the same as me. DP bought some the other day for himself and when I opened fridge and saw them them there I was straight in the bathroom. One of the worst food reactions I've had just looking at them. He said it was like a sitcom pregnancy reaction. I did get bad food poisoning from one as a teenager though. that could explain it actually, even though normally i can eat them.

JenniL1977 · 11/07/2011 21:21

Aw, whenwill sorry you're feeling crappy :( and that you're not digging our love of the pie. Hope you feel better soon.

crackerqueen · 12/07/2011 08:52

I sincerely apologise to all of you who have bought and scoffed pork pies as a result of this thread! whenwill - I feel doubly awful for you: sorry you feel bleeurgh and sorry you can't join us in our enjoyment of pork pies. I have a very strong aversion to greens (beans, spinach etc) and have banned my DH from bringing them home!
Just to update you. I am now averaging 4 mini pies a day. Sainsbury's Mmmmmmelton Mowbray (thanks lookout) particularly hit the spot. I've got a scan coming up soon and I'm expecting to be told LO is a whopper! I WILL NEVER have pork pies again once LO is here! It's what He/she wants! Honest!

lookout · 12/07/2011 14:14

My two pack of Sainsbury's Mmmmmmmmelton Mowbray snack pork pies is now finished. I am plotting how to get more without dh laughing at me.

pookamoo · 12/07/2011 14:28

Isn't the pate thing more to do with the liver content and too much vit A for the growing baby?

This time round I have been much more relaxed about what I eat, where it is a question of food poisoning etc... where it could actually damage the baby I am still cautious.

JenniL1977 · 13/07/2011 12:24

For my lunch, I am having:
2 ham sandwiches
2 pork pies
and smoky bacon crisps.
(followed by some strawberries to fool myself that I do eat my 5 a day)

I am concerned that this is pig overload. Is this bad?! :)

crackerqueen · 13/07/2011 15:35

JenniL1977 - your lunch sounds lovely, and very similar to mine!
I had 2 pork pies, a chicken & ham wrap & a berry smoothie! In good company again. How far along are you?

Now DH, whose body is a temple, has fallen head over heels in love with pork pies! He ate through my supply yesterday while I was at work but then went out and restocked for me!
