A new thread needed here already! Lovely Grumblin who started the second one, may be actually having that baby at this minute!

I hope this will be a source of support for present sufferers and ex sufferers alike and also worried family members.

I want particularly to mention my favourite feline FluffyWhiteKittens, who has been so invaluable a source of support on the old threads, and MOH, who has slaved to produce articles full of useful information and links to useful websites, LaTrucha, lovely CaramelloKoalaLover, Grumblin, NitNat, La, Lottie, Grandmagain, MaryLou, Cocoanuts and so many that I cannot name everyone for fear that the current sufferer may became annoyed at the long list...

Never worry about tmi or moaning. When suffering one has to discuss things that would make most people go weak at the knees and to have a good moan can help enormously with an illness where there is still a lot of ignorance and sometimes insensitive treatment.

It might help to remember - when you are at your worst - the words in that Eastern story.
'This Too Shall Pass.'

Hi all
I fear I may be about to join your group so thought I'd stick my head in.

I'm almost 8 weeks pregnant. been feeling sick since week four, gradually getting worse. And always worse at night time. Eventually I was up most of last night retching up bile. Went to doctor today who was actually really helpful I thought, and took me seriously. He prescribed buccastem and Gaviscon (not had any Gaviscon yet as the thought of it made me want to be sick). As a result I've managed to keep down a couple of bits of toast and a bowl of soup today (big improvement on the zero I kept down yesterday, even water was making me sick).

Anyway, about qn hour ago I popped in a buccastem tablet but still I'm lying awake burping and feeling sick and I'm convinced I'm going to have another night of puking.

I'm not sure that I'm sufficiently sick to properly join your group but I think I'm on the way there and thought I'd pop by for some sympathy!!

nitnatnaboo · 03/09/2011 14:02

Hi KD Popor you - sounds as if you're having a pretty revolting time to me! Are you managing to to drink and keep fluids down? Keep sipping away if you can , even if it comes up again, just to keep as hydrated as possible. Glad that the Doc was sympathetic. Don't be afraid to go back and try a different med if the buccastem doesn't work.
Hope you have a better night tonight.

nitnatnaboo · 03/09/2011 14:02

That was meant to be "poor" not "popor", whatever that is....

LucindaE · 03/09/2011 16:42

Hello, everyone...
KD Welcome, I can't better that post from NItNat. So glad you got some meds, throwing up bile again and again does hurt and exhausts you and doing so in the night, with everyone else asleep, is too dismal. I lived on jelly, ice cubes, sips of flat coke, nibbles of plain crisps, and juice from tinned fruit plus Lucozade...Do any of those appeal? Looks hopeful.
Louby I am glad they are taking this seriously, but what a stressful thing to have to have sorted out. That man deserves to have his trousers come down in a supermarket, when he's not wearing underpants...ANd have everyone laugh at his deficiencies...
Schrod Looks like you have an offer for kesosticks! They check for dehydration. I hadn't heard of them when I suffered, or I could have waved one in that doctor's face...
NitNat Hugs as always.
Back in a sec...

Louby Thank you. :) I think I might not need them though as have started having contractions! Quite far apart but very regular and since 6pm last night!
Had an awful night but managing to drink a lot today. :)
I hope everything works out okay with your job! :)

KD Sounds like you are having an awful start of your pregnancy! :( I think you should maybe take up Louby's offer of the Kesosticks if you're not managing to keep water down at times.
Plus Lucinda's idea of ice cubes is a great one and also the Lucozade sport if you can manage it as it's good at keeping you hydrated.

Lucinda I probably could have done with them around the 6/7 month mark when I was being sick constantly. Especially because they keep telling me I need to drink more when they see my pee but I drink litres of water a day! Confused

nitnatnaboo · 03/09/2011 19:51

Go Shrodingers Go! How exciting. Good luck and wishing you a speedy and painfree birth.

Are you puking as well? I had a phase of passing out and then puking during labour....

louby86 · 03/09/2011 20:12

Aaaaaaahhhh how exciting schrodingers ooooo I'm going to be thinking about how you're getting on all night now! Good luck with everything!!!

ElliottsMummy · 03/09/2011 20:50

Sending good vibes to Schrodingers , another of us escaping from HG with a gorgeous reward :)

HeifferunderConstruction · 03/09/2011 23:23

What is it in Laymans terms??

Is it like extreme morning sickness like when the body is allergic to the baby??

SchrodingersMew · 04/09/2011 07:04

Thanks everyone. :) Cx are still exactly the same though and driving me a bit mad! Still being sick through it all. :(

Hope everyone is feeling better today!

La73 · 04/09/2011 08:10

Popping on quickly to give advice to Sch - my labour slowed down so applied pressure to pinky toe as advised by reflexologist and worked. Pinch or use nail to apply as much pressure as can stand to edge of little toe under nail. May not be explaining well but google pressure points to induce labour and there will be image. Good luck!

SchrodingersMew · 04/09/2011 08:48

La72 Weird! I had already being doing that just as I opened this thread! Along with the other points on the ankle and the one in between the thumb and fore finger.

Made me a bit crampy at the front and most of my pains have been at the back so I guess that might be a good sign. :)

Bit worried about encouraging labour to continue at 35 weeks but MW didn't seem at all worried about me on the phone.

Thanks for the advice though and will continue with pressure points. :)

LucindaE · 04/09/2011 12:46

Just dashing on to say good luck, Schrod. Waves to everyone, hopes nobody is suffering too much. Heiffer it is just that, but all day, and so bad that it leads to dehydration from not being able to retain enoug fluids.

I all

Hope all goes well with the labour schroedinger

Thank you everybody for your lovely wishes. I feel like a bit of a fraud though as with the buccastem I am now just feeling normal morning sickness, if a bit on the crappy end of the scale. I can keep water down and tolerate plain carb foods like a plain piece of toast or jacket potato and I had a half bowl of soup for my lunch and might go and try some more just now.

Heiffer when I compare how I felt last week to now I would say the big difference is that with normal morning sickness you feel grotty but can drag yourself out if bed and function - work or take care of a child eg. On Thursday and Friday last week I was barely capable of taking care of myself. When I started to feel better on Saturday I realised I hadn't had a shower since Wednesday. What I would consider a basic bit of basic care just went out of the window. I also think that in general 'normal morning sickness comes in waves so you might have a few hours where you feel human and can keep food down. But I think hyperemesis is generally constant.

Cosmogirl · 04/09/2011 16:14

Hi ladies, hope you don't mind me barging in. Sorry that you are suffering with HG. I had it with my daughter who is now 2.5 so I have some idea of what you're all going though & in my eyes you're all superstars.

I wondered if anyone had any advice for a thread I've posted further down on this topic about preparing for a HG pregnancy. Link should be below - hope it worked.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1293151-Preparation-for-Hyperemesis-pregnancy

Many thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. I have recently read Ashli Foshee McCall's book Beyond Morning Sickness: Battling HG and I think I have scared myself a bit! My biggest fear is missing out on 9 months of my daughter's life and not being able to be the mummy I want to be to her if I am really sick again.

SchrodingersMew · 04/09/2011 17:54

Cx seem to have stopped for the moment, am in so much pain because of other health problems, can't really eat, stemetil not working and have had less that 16 hours sleep in 3 weeks.

The Dr didn't seem to care as long as he is happy in there.

I feel bad but I have started munching parsley like there's no tomorrow... Seriously worried about my mental state if this goes on much longer and feel like such a bad person trying to make him come quicker.

Sorry about the rant, I just needed to vent. :(

fluffywhitekittens · 04/09/2011 21:11

Vent away Schrodinger :)
How's it going now?
Cosmogirl will be back later, not ignoring you!
But just to say it is possible to just about manage a HG pregnancy with another child.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 04/09/2011 22:17

Aw Schrodinger have a ((hug)). He'll come soon, soon enough it'll be over. You have had a rough time of it for sure sos urely that is a sign that you'll have an easy baby. Vent away here as much as you need xx

LucindaE · 05/09/2011 08:30

Cosmo I didn't go for it a second time, but I wish I had, everyone says it worth it, and if only you can get treatment earlyon it makes all the difference. Thanks for link, I'm sure the others will have good advice about how to cope it it comes to a second HG pregnancy.
Schrod Really sorry it went away, but at least might thatnot be better for baby if s/he's not fully ready, yet?
Coconuts Hugs to you, I know it isn't easy for you (to put it mildly) for you either at the moment...
Heiffer I have just thought - I have migraines, and I think the difference between normal M/S and Hyperemesis is like the difference between a normal headache and a migaine. With one you can get by, feeling awful, with one, you are pole axed. As with Hyperemesis, I still meet people who think I am 'making a fuss about nothing'.
My pc may be going in for treatment over the next couple of days, thank goodness!
How is everyone? Kids So glad thinks are better.

Thanks Lucinda - it is so unfair that HG has such an influence when pregnancy should be a happy time.

Fluffy - thanks for posting. I think I'm gonna need to do another a shameless bump as this pregnancy board moves fast and I think I've sunk to the bottom again. Any thoughts on meds much appreciated as last time I only took Metoproclamide for a week and felt much worse so I'm not too clued up on what I should ask of the consultant at a pre TTC meeting. Can you demand Ondansetron? Is that the right thing to do? Love and strength to all suffering. x

SchrodingersMew · 05/09/2011 21:32

Lucinda It probably is better that way. :)

Collapsed today, mixture of flu and exhaustion and my Dr gave me a stemetil injection (bliss) and sleeping tabets. :)

Cosmo Best meds that have worked for me are promethazine and stemetil (the rest make me sick!). Stemetil is the one that they give you in injection but you can get it in pill form as well.

Hope you are feeing a bit better. :(

LucindaE · 06/09/2011 15:06

Schrod, collapsed?!How awful, where did this happen? I am so glad you had that injection, are you sleeping since? Hugs from me too, this sounds miserable, sixteen hours sleep in a week.
Cosmo You are so right!
Fluffy waves and Coconuts too...

schrod that's terrible, hope you're not suffering as much now. I know everyone will be saying it but not long to go and it will be so worth it!

cosmo I don't know much about other meds, really didn't get on with buccastem so I was prescribed avomine from about week 6ish

Hello everyone else, looks like autumn is finally here! Had an invite to a Halloween party yesterday so trying to find an outfit I'll fit in!

SchrodingersMew · 06/09/2011 16:48

Lucinda I was brushing my teeth, went black for a second, tried to grab on to the leg of the sink but it broke! (god I must have gotten huge!) kinda spun and fell over and into the bath and hit my head on the tiles. Confused

And it was 16 hours sleep in 3 weeks! Shock Slept a little last night though, just a couple of hours but enough that I don't feel a complete wreck. :)

Louby Thanks :) And an invite to a Halloween party already!? Wow, someone is getting it done early!

MotherofPearl · 07/09/2011 11:50

Hello all,
Just back from the dentist. Have had a sore tooth for about a week but ignored it hoping it would improve but eventually made an emergency appt to go in this morning. It was a fairly big cavity, have had a temporary filling put in. Dentist said enamel of teeth damaged by all the vomiting. I really do blame HG for this, it's only the 2nd cavity I've ever had in all my 37 years, and I pride myself on normally having good oral hygiene, but teeth-brushing in the early months of HG did slack off, so I guess I also have myself to blame.
Hurray for autumn Louby, means we're all inching closer to the finish line! Hope everyone feeling OK today. x
