... and is there a reason for your preference?

Felicity or Rebecca

Thank you!

Rebecca

GREATauntymandy · 18/11/2005 07:02

Rebecca
Felicity is too 'prety' for me although I like the shortened versions...flick or fizz!!

Rebekah is a nice variation

Jockey · 18/11/2005 07:55

Definitely Rebecca - I just like the sound of it - kind of romantic. It was on my shortlist for dd2.

ssd · 18/11/2005 08:05

rebecca. don't like Felicity, sounds too uppity.

GREATauntymandy · 18/11/2005 12:31

looks like Rebecca wins!!!

emkana · 18/11/2005 12:59

Maybe I shouldn't have asked the question

Am amazed how many would take a negative view of the "image" that goes with Felicity.

I do like Rebecca, but really don't like the shortened versions...

oh what to do what to do.
Oh well maybe it will be a boy.

Does anybody have any other name suggestions?

i know a felicity (adult) and she's lovely, i'm not that keen on rebecca as i don't like it being shortened to becky or bex

saadia · 18/11/2005 20:22

I think Josephine is a lovely name.

janeybops · 18/11/2005 20:25

How about Verity?

Personally I would never chose Rebecca - don't like the shortened versions.

I quite like Felicity.

My dd is Esme? Not sure if you like that? I get mixed reactions to it even now...

emkana · 18/11/2005 20:26

Josephine - now there's an idea...
would like it shortened to Josie as well.

I know a Josephine too - she is the third daughter in a family where there weren't going to be any more children and is generally known as Joey these days (she is 15 now I think). She was called Josie when little and isn't remotely tomboyish.

roosmum · 18/11/2005 20:41

prefer felicity to rebecca, in response to original question...but wouldn't choose either personally.

josephine surely often shortened to 'jo'? not keen on that.

what other names are you keen on emkana?

emkana · 18/11/2005 20:44

Oh really? I thought Jo originated from Joanna.

I like Evie, and Matilda, and Mia.
But unfortunately dh is vetoing all those. [sigh]

Felicity is his suggestion, I said I liked it at first but am not 100 % certain now.

Rebecca is a name we thought of ages ago, and if I could garantuee (sp?) it wouldn't be shortened I'd go for it.

Rebecca is quite nice but is always shortened ime. If not all the time at least some of the time.

How about

Hope
Charity
Florence - Flossie

if dh likes older style names????

Hazellnut · 18/11/2005 20:49

I like Rebecca, and would have initially said I didn't like felicity but hte more I think about it I think I like it too !

As for the shortening - my name is a long name which is usually shortened by most people but my parents never liked the shortened form so I have never been it, mostly the longer form - in later years it has been shortened but not to the usual shortened form !! That probably doens't make much sense but basically if you don't want it shortened don't shorten it !!

roosmum · 18/11/2005 20:50

emkana, love matilda, esp when shortened to 'tilda' (tilda swinton??), classy/solid/cool.

how about martha??

emkana · 18/11/2005 20:50

The thing is that dh would be the first to call a Rebecca Becks, he can't help himself, he shortens all the time!

Keep the suggestions coming, much appreciated!

saadia · 18/11/2005 20:51

I think you can ensure names aren't shortened just by never using the shortened version yourself and correcting others if they do so.

I remember working, at different times, with two Elizabeths - one liked being called Liz and the other didn't so we all just complied with what they wanted. Similarly there was a Kate and she always objected if anyone called her Katie.

emkana · 18/11/2005 20:52

I love Matilda too, am only 11 weeks now so maybe I'll be able to talk dh round?
Martha no good, I am German, and the German relatives couldn't cope with the pronunciation of the th.

Hazellnut · 18/11/2005 20:56

treacletart · 18/11/2005 20:58
