Any one found a 'realistic' caffeine free tea?

Stuggling without my tea fix as I've now got a mental craving for Coke now so my 2 mugs a day is reduced to one. All the caffeine ones seem to taste a bit funny :(

Has anyone found anything that comes close to the satisfying goodness which is a nice hot mug of tea but minus the caffeine obviously?

Thanks,

I normally have about 6-8 mugs a dat of yorkshire tea gold so thought it might be best to alternate with decaff......turns out that decaff yorkshire tea is rubbish but tetleys is actually alright! Smile

Tesco finest earl grey decaf is the only decaf I can drink. It tastes lovely. I'm have only tried 'normal' decaf in other brands though and even twinings tastes rubbish.

I drink tesco's own, Scottish blend decaf. It's one of the nicest I've found. We have a really expensive one in the hotel I work in and it tastes rank. I also like my tea so strong you can stand a spoon in it.

I used to use the same tea bag 2 times. Disgusting, I know.... But it effectively meant I was halving my caffeine intake. I didn't much feel like tea while pregnant, due to 9 months of hg. But towards the end of pregnancy, I could tolerate it....

The best tasting and nearest to a 'real' cup of a tea is Clipper Organic decaf (I can only find it for sale in Sainsburys). The tea leaves are washed with plain water instead of using chemicals which other decaf teas use. As I have had 2 previous MMC and this is my first child I have been a little bit anal in my research of tea!!

Another redbush core here. The smell used to put me off, so I got a box of Tetley's Best Of Both (half redbush, half regular tea) and found by the end I was craving a harder redbush hit and now I happily drink very strong redbush all day long :)

The Best Of Both is v low caffeine anyway so if you like that, stick with it. I switched pre-pregnancy because of my blood pressure anyway.

I love peppermint tea and red bush tea. Peppermint is more refreshing and helps with morning sickness. Red bush tea is more satisfying, and you can put milk in it :)

I gave up trying to find a substitute that didn't taste of sawdust.... I'd rather have very occasional cups of proper tea (4-5 a week rather than my previous 4-5 day) than drink that stuff. Pukka herb teas are lovely, especially their peppermint and liquorice so I drink those the rest of the time - there is plenty of variety so I can avoid having too much of any one herb. That said, I may give some of your recommendations a try to see if they work - reluctant to buy whole boxes though!

Twinnings English breakfast decaf fan here.

Tesco’s own decaf is the only one I’ve found that is literally the same as normal tea!

Bernifal · 25/06/2019 23:06

PG tips decaf all the way. It’s taken me months to find the one!

LouH1981 · 26/06/2019 00:14

Twinings everyday decaf is my favourite but just a bit pricey and rarely on offer xx

socair · 06/02/2020 11:30

Tetley teabags.. decaff or full leaded you can't tell the difference

though I have tried a few others ...againno discernble difference ..its all in the imagination.

Betterto drink teas that have never had caffeine in them because someof the methods used tomake them into decaff would (and probably should) put you right off.

loadsof herbal types ... redbush under allits different names, honey and lemon, lemon&ginger.. there is no need to consume caffeine at all and you are spoiled for alternative choices really.

I've found Yorkshire decaf to be the best, but I'm severely off my tea. I used to drink so much before I got pregnant - Chinese pu'er, green, rooibos, peppermint, English breakfast. Now it mostly turns my stomach.

opticaldelusion · 06/02/2020 12:12

Why can't you have two cups of normal tea a day? I'm sure that's within guidelines.

PrinnyPree · 06/02/2020 12:19

I'm drinking co-op own brand decaf tea at home and tetley decaf (provided at work) I'm just used to it now. I miss my cokes but quite frankly fizzy drinks just give me heartburn now.

MousematsRule · 06/02/2020 14:37

I like the Clipper one, was given some by a friend, I can't find them locally in shops though so had to order them

ToTravelIsToLive · 06/02/2020 15:01

They tasted vile during pregnancy but after I find them much nicer. I just had 1 cup of regular tea every once in a while and made it in a tea pot so it was extra delicious Grin
