I hated it first time and was hoping that this one wuld be so different and I would enjoy every minute of it - but I'm not. Its worse and have become so down and fed up I just want to sleep through the next 5 months.
I am now about to start my third week of absencefrom work due to hyperemesis gravidarum and also I think I felt the first twinges of SPD returning today (although at only 15 weeks I hope it isn't). I had SPD with first baby but not until about 32 weeks.

PPP - thanks for advice. I have added Blommin Awfy=ul to my favourites as it was a site I first went to when doctor diagnosed it as I had never heard of HG before. However, even though he put it on my sick note I asked him if there was anything i could take or do and he said no - I just have to cope!!
I think when I go back this week I will ask him again and refer him to the solutions mntioned on Bloomin Awful!

I have lost 6lbs in the last 10 days which although isn't a huge loss it is concerning me slightly.

Have you had your booking appointment with the hospital yet? Could you get hospital consultant to recommend something?

PeachyPlumPudding · 13/11/2005 21:20

it's too much weight, Helsi. There are lots of things on the site you can print (I manned the info line for a good while when the lady running it had HG a second time) and take, it makes a difference. Remember, many GP's won't have met a case of HG before, plus it used to be treated as a psychological illness and that has some hangover effects too.

The obstetrician taught DH to smell my breath every few hours to detect signs of acetone for dehydration. Once that happens, you need help. the key is to prevent it getting that far.

whensassygotstuckupthechimney · 13/11/2005 21:20

helsi - I had HG in both pgs (hospitalised both times). Sympathy, it IS grim.

There ARE things you can take. I didn't want to take anything with DD1 but got so desperate I took whatever I was offered. So go back to your GP or talk to midwfe.

I had avomine and phenergan, which worked reasonably well (taken until day I gave birth, both times!), but only after a spell in hospital to stabilise me. There are apparently tiny risks with these drugs (didn't know this at the time) but there are other things which are safer.

In the meantime, the sicker you are, the more your stomach will revolt at what you put in. Sucking a chubba chup type lolly can help cos it boosts your blood sugar without food going in.

HTH.

cori - I had booking in appt a few weeks ago and dating scan 2 weeks ago. Seeing midwife again on 29th this month and "big" scan on 13th December. Seeing doctor again on Friday 18th but dh says I should ring again this week o go earlier or get home visit as tiredness is so bad etc

helsi like i said in my previous post i had sickness until five months roughly 22 wks and i lost three stone but it is worth it otherwise i wouldnt have had my 2nd child and be trying for a third i must be a fool btw congratulations and i hope it all goes well for you

helsi · 13/11/2005 21:23

thanks whensassy - I have sucked boiled sweets as thankfully i don't have HG so bad that I vomit on my own saliva which I have read can happen. That helps for the uration of the sweet then back to square one. I have swapped to the cremosa as they are sugar free.

sorry to jump back in but what really helped me was oranges or anything citrusy. You can buy lemon essence and that on a bit of tissue every now and then can help

whensassygotstuckupthechimney · 13/11/2005 21:25

Yep helsi - happened to me!

No more babies in this house..can't go through it again.

(See your GP/phone midwife TOMORROW.)

helsi · 13/11/2005 21:25

thanks carly I will possibly give that a go as I am desperate at the moment. Have tried eating satsumas and they just came straight back up (sorry!)

sorry if i upset anyone but it maks me so anoyed when peole moan when thye dont realiswe how lucky they are to be pg

cori · 13/11/2005 21:27

yes get an earlier appointment. IF there is medication you can take safely, then why should you suffer. GPs always try and fob off pregnant women in IMO.

PeachyPlumPudding · 13/11/2005 21:29

Um- why sugar free lollipops? Grab those calories girl! trust me you'll need them! Besides, low blood sugar precipitates nausea.

helsi · 13/11/2005 21:30

PPP - thought sugar free might help with receding gums etc!

Expat,
My employer sent me to Occupational health doctor who recommended Flixonase, which is a nasal spray with steriods, is meant to be good for severe sinus problems, and is safe in pregnancy. (I havent really had to use it as sinus problem is not too bad at the moment)

carly82 · 13/11/2005 21:31

helsi i really know how hard it is, i tried everything the books said like ginger (yeuch!) but even things like the smell of someones perfume walking past would make me heave and to make matters worse my dp at the time (now xp) smoked for 5 months i was permanantely stuck to to the loo but it does get better do you know what your having? cos apparantley boys are worse (i had 2 boys )

helsi · 13/11/2005 21:33

i will find out the sex hopefully on 13 December. Some days are better than othres but the better days are still crap.

I feel like boss and work people think I am being a hypocondriac (I can't even spell it let alone be one)!

QueenVictoria · 13/11/2005 21:33

Sorry you are suffering helsi. I never suffered with HG but i had severe SPD and generally never ever felt like i was glowing or blooming or anything else. And would often feel bad for not enjoying it too.

cori · 13/11/2005 21:36

Helsi, I will be finding out the sex of mine on the 14th of December (smile)

PeachyPlumPudding · 13/11/2005 21:36

I had 3 boys- maybe it is a boy thing?

it's not just food: gold shoes, terracotta fabric and Britney Spears set me off now still, 6 years after first bout! Apparently the brain is VV good at building links to nausea stimulators or something? (the clothes were ones I bought days before I got ill, Hit me baby one more time- see I felt sick just typing that- was charting when I had it)

carly82 · 13/11/2005 21:37

bound to be a boy lol they cause lots of trouble!! But in all seriousness when you have that scan and find out (if there legs are open ) all that sickness will be worth it cos then you can put a name to that little buggar thats been causing all this grief

helsi · 13/11/2005 21:37

PPP I don't think the Britney thing has anything to do with HG!!

OP posts:
PeachyPlumPudding · 13/11/2005 21:39

Hmm, see your point

Can I put my aversion to my MIl down to HG too do you think? I met her only a few weeks before I got pg! (Bit like my DH really!)

carly82 · 13/11/2005 21:39

PPP lol i know what you mean though i was desperate for the perfume ultraviolet by paco rabbane i got it two days later sickness kicked in and i still cant smell it without heaving and my youngest is 17 months old

helsi · 13/11/2005 21:39

if it is a boy I will never guffaw at old wives tales again!
