How many of you have stretchmarks????

After having my 2 children (6 yrs and 7 yrs) I did/do have stretch marks but on my boobs, hips, bum and that's it. For some strange reason I didn't get any on my stomach.
I have a df who has really deep, train track type ones and I do feel really sorry for her.

I wonder if it is your skin type that decides whether or not you get them?

Had some very nasty red ones under bump when pg with ds and dd but they disappeared almost straight away after births. Mind you, my stomach is a big wrinkly saggy mess (two years later) so maybe they are still lurking in the folds somewhere... Give me stretch marks over a saggy tummy anyday.

I have deep, train track ones, and I wouldn't want anyone feeling sorry for me because of them - I don't feel sorry for me because of them. They are the least of my physical imperfections, and they don't define me as a person; it's what's inside that matters.

My dh says that he knows and loves the reason why I have them, and he has even been known to kiss them (but he hasn't done the corny Shirley Valentine line while he's been doing it ).

Flum · 08/11/2005 22:12

I have none, one dd.

I did used to rub various creams and oils in to tummy now and then, but not regularly and can't say which might have worked as used a variety.

expatinscotland · 08/11/2005 22:13

I never rubbed anything other than ordinary lotion in .

I'm 30 wks pg with my 4th and not a stretchmark to be seen anywhere.

I don't take any credit for it, it is clearly genetic. Don't really use any creams or anything either (except sometimes on my flaky winter lizard shins and they are the only bits of me that don't stretch )

Actually I've never asked my sister if she got any with her 1st - must do that.

JoolsToo · 08/11/2005 22:23

very pale little white ones on my sides and top of legs

vickiyumyum · 08/11/2005 22:24

i have tonnes of stretchmarks (know how you feel wwb) which i always put down to my heavy weight gain with ds1 but i feel tat it must be genetic as i have come across many women much bigger than me who have had no stretch marks and yet women of victoria beckhams proportions who are covered on their stomach, bum, breasts and thighs.

princesspeahead · 08/11/2005 22:26

I'm sure it is just due to the natural elasticity (or not) of your skin....

notasheep · 08/11/2005 22:27

I might not be very popular here, I have had 2 babies and NO stretchmarks!! I am white skinned but tan very easily.I am sure I have some foreign blood somewhere in my family tree!!!!!!

I too am white skinned and freckled and have had 2 babies (8lbs 14 and 9lbs 12). I have no stretchmarks on my stomach or legs but quite a few on my now pendulous udders. My children are 8 and 4 so they've faded to lines now but like roosmoo I can feel the ridges under the skin. Whether it is a coincidence or not, I used to rub in Vitamin E or cocoa butter cream over my stomach but my boobs were very sensitive both times I was pregnant and I couldn't bear to touch them so they were never 'creamed'.

starshaker · 08/11/2005 22:42

i only have stretch marks on the top of my tummy

my babies were big (9lbs 5 the largest) but my udders have never been pendulous.
I attain the dizzying heights of a C cup when my milk comes in.

I'm sure that helps!

JoolsToo · 08/11/2005 22:51

a midwife once told me - don't waste money on creams - you're either made for stretchmarks or your not!

Pip · 08/11/2005 22:51

I don't have any. I think having olive skin helps. They don't seem to be as common here in Spain (or at least the women I've spoken to don't have them). However, it's not all good news, like many others on this thread, my boobs are pants. LOL at the empty socks post. Excellent description!

JoolsToo · 08/11/2005 22:52

gosh my boobs are still quite perky - and they are very old could this be a plus point for bottle feeding?

notasheep · 08/11/2005 22:55

Five children well done you!!!
I have eight-not really but my sister does!!
Shame she isnt on Mumsnet. The advice she could give!

MrsSpoon · 08/11/2005 22:59

I have train tracks on my lower stomach and a couple of smaller stretchmarks on my upper thighs. As time has gone on they look better but my stomach has a horrible wrinkly texture now.

Pip · 08/11/2005 23:00

JoolsToo ... yes you may be right. Sadly. BF doesn't do much for the 'tone' of your boobs. That doesn't sound right. Can someone from that correct grammar thread please help me re-phrase that sentence?
