Second time horror stories - thought these were just for first timers? Why do people do this to hormonal women!?

When carrying DS I had all the horror stories about how much labour hurts and how it's like a scene from a horror film and how your foof will rip open as a 15lb baby with a 50cm head forces it's way out and blah blah blah. All of it was, frankly, bullshit (sorry if I've scared any first timers reading this but it really was total bull so don't be afraid!).

This time round I thought I was safe, but no, the doom and gloom crowd have all new horror stories to share, stories specifically for second timers. I'm wondering how much of it is rubbish and wondering if anyone can comment on these little gems:

  • "second babies are much bigger ... " complete with a nod at DS who was 9lb 3oz at 40 weeks with a 37.5cm head
  • "if you tore with your last one you'll tear even worse with this one ... "
  • "once I got to about 37 weeks it was agony going to the loo because my scar from DC1 had sort of unzipped/popped open a little bit ... " W.T.F!? I think it's highly unlikely I'd unzip, but seriously, what the hell!?
  • "once you've delivered you'll get after-pains this time round, they're as bad as full-blown contractions ... "
  • "DS was on time? You'll almost definitely go overdue this time ... "

I'm sure there'll be more as I progress, they're the main ones I'm getting though.

Why do some women seem to think it's their sacred duty to try and scare the stuffing out of other women!?

My 3 DDs were all about 7 1/2 lbs and between 6-8 hours labour. I only tore with DD1 and she was the latest. No after pains with her though but I did get them with the other 2. They are not comparable to contractions.

My ds was 7lbs 8oz, born a week late. I had a homebirth, I woke up 9.5 cms dilated and he was born within 4 hours, waters broke at the end,no tears and no pain relief-sheer textbook.

I am PRAYING this baby will come the same way. If anyone tries to tell me otherwise I shall kill them Grin

I don't even know what after pains are..?

Sorry, but my second was waaaaaay worse than my first.

With DD1 I was in labour for 8 hours start to finish. She was 7lb 10 and she was 11 days late. Small tear requiring stitches but nothing too awful.

DS came next...

Was told all the way through that he was going to be a small baby. Went into labour for 25 flippin hours, until eventually, after gas and air, pethidine and a failed epidural I started hallucinating with pain and had to be dragged down to theatre for a CS. Was told one more go, but with the forceps and if he didn't come out, they would go through with the CS. I didn't care, they could've completely cut me in half and it probably wouldn't have been half as bad Hmm.
DS was 9lb 4 and 10 days late. Loads and loads of stitches inside and out and took me about 3 months to stop bleeding and start to feel normal again.

With DD2 I was in labour for 1 hour 40 mins, survived on G and A and she literally fell out of me Grin. Afterpains though were pretty bad. Don't remember them at all with DD1 or DS.
