Dh and I had unprotected sex on the 21/03, 9 days after the 1rst day of my period. We usually use condoms but didnt have any that night.

We used the withdrawal method, he pulled in time no problem. My only worry and I'm sorry it is going to be TMI but when we did it, we didn't need lube, I was quite ermm wet and I think he was too.

About 7 days after the deed, I have started to have sore boobs, now it is not unusual for me as I get sore boobs before my periods but not 2 weeks and a half before it !

So what are the chances of me being pregnant ? And how early can I test ? My periods are due between the 4rth and the 10th of April !

del1 your doctor is such a fibber! :)

wonderingsilly · 31/03/2011 12:03

Right, I had a couple more symptoms, frequent urination, nausea at about 5 oclock in the morning, white discharge (sorry tmi). Man I wish I could test now !

It might well just be the effects of your new pill, but if you're thinking you might possibly keep it if you show positive then you might want to take some folic acid.

wonderingsilly · 31/03/2011 12:28

I'm not taking any pill, we use condoms waiting for dh to have the snips.

Del1's doctor is more or less right actually - ovulation can occur at any point in a cycle and unless you are having blood tests or using OPKs you won't necessarily know when that is.

For most women ovulation occurs 10-14 days before the start of their next period. So if you have a 28 day cycle you may well ovulate between day 14 and 18. Sperm can live for some days in the right environment so sex between days 10 and 22 could theoretically result in pregnancy.

But you could ovulate randomly too, and some months ovulation can vary by some number of days especially if your cycle is irregular. It is possible to get pregnant from having sex during a period (but quite rare).

So you can actually potentially get pregnant throughout most of your cycle, hence why women trying to conceive are told to have sex every other day throughout the whole of the month!

KatieWatie · 31/03/2011 12:54

Agreed Sidge - My friend relied on the "have sex on first day of period" method and has not 1 but 2 DCs as a result Grin

del1 · 31/03/2011 21:07

Wonderingsilly, sorry to interup, but want to ask didldidi something - dont get it!!
Why would my doctor tell me that then.
She made me feel a bit silly, as I have always believed ( and read) that there were only certain times - around ovulation that you can get pregnant.

G1nger · 31/03/2011 21:13

I did hear something back at uni about how the body can ovulate out of sequence to make use of some sperm that's there... I don't know how true this is, as Wikipedia seems to think the same book has been largely discredited.

StiffyByng · 31/03/2011 21:16

Was your doctor actually saying you could ovulate at any point in your cycle, and therefore get pregnant, rather than thinking of you having a 'safe' time when you assume you're not ovulating. The point is that unless you're monitoring when you ovulate, you may not know that you are, and so get pregnant.

del1 · 31/03/2011 21:16

Sorry, didnt realise there were 2 pages, and just read sidge's post.
We had sex whilst I was on my period, which is why I told my doctor that I couldnt have been pregnant. So with sperm lasting 5 days, I could have ovulated on day 10? ( 16/18 days before my period was due).
Or - maybe i'm just odd !!! Confused

G1nger · 31/03/2011 21:18

del - maybe you're just super fertile, so kudos to you :o

del1 · 31/03/2011 21:21

wonderingsilly - anyway, when are you going to do a test Grin

wonderingsilly · 01/04/2011 19:10

I did a test today and it went straight to negative, we'll see I'm not late or anything so we shall see !

PS : I'm longing for a 3rd baby but we cant afford it Sad

Actually del1 is right, even people with an accurate release time every month can release an egg at a spontaneously random time one month. It is also possible to release two eggs in one month though not common.

kat2504 · 02/04/2011 13:56

It is possible. However it is relatively unlikely. It does only take the one and all that but I have been having unprotected sex for seven months, three times a week, and no withdrawal, that's probably well over a hundred shags that it has taken me to get pregnant.
This is also fairly average. So one incident using withdrawal may get you pregnant but is unlikely. The wetness may have been your arousal fluids or cervical mucus.
Do not use ovulation tests as a contraceptive. They identify two fertile days and the sperm can survive longer than this. If you can afford it get a persona monitor, ditch withdrawing on green days and use a condom on red days, or abstain.

qtqt · 06/04/2011 17:56

wonderingsilly - what happened? did the symptoms continue?

2catsand1rabbit · 06/04/2011 18:27

Hi, me and my husband used this method for 7 years. We purposely tried for our first baby and I conceived quickly. Ds is now 2 years old. End of last year I started being sick and yes, I'm 7.5 months pregnant now! It was a total shock. I will be going on the coil after this baby is born.

wonderingsilly · 07/04/2011 09:21

No more symptoms but still no periods, it will happen exactly on day 28 I think !
