Hi there, I'm 28 from Bristol and expecting my first child in October. Just wondered if there was anyone else from Bristol who fancied chatting.

MrsMooky · 29/03/2011 17:16

Yes, expecting in August..

Alicebw · 29/03/2011 17:18

Hi Mrs Mooky. Is this your first pregnancy?

OP posts:
MrsMooky · 29/03/2011 17:21

Yes it is, I'm simultaneously loving it and feeling terrified. I thought the panic would kick in once tha baby arrives, but I'm spending most of my time feeling generally a bit anxious about how my baby is doing, whether she'll be okay etc etc. I actually cannot wait for labour, which I never thought I'd say. How are you feeling?

Alicebw · 29/03/2011 17:25

Really, you can't wait for labout, I can definitely wait for that. I'm scared out of my mind about it. i don't deal with pain well. I know what you mean about loving it but also feeling terrified. I worry every time I eat something slightly naughty and I was petrified of miscarriage in the first 12 weeks. I'm sure your baby will be fine though. I'm not going to find out what I'm having as I want it to be a surprise but so long as it is healthy that's all I really care about. I'm still feeling sick unfortunately. But hopefully now I'm at 13 weeks it should pass soon. How about you how are you feeling

MrsMooky · 29/03/2011 17:28

Oh, no no no - I can definitely wait for the pain, I more meant seeing her and knowing she's okay! I feel revoltingly great, though missing the wine...

Hooey · 29/03/2011 17:38

me too -due in September

BumpyBecs · 29/03/2011 18:24

Hi there, Also from Bristol (Bradley Stoke). Having first baby in Oct (3rd) and am 13 weeks just like you Alicebw! First 12 weeks was on tenterhooks the whole time. We had 3 failed ICSI/IVF I the past and this baby is the result of egg donation so have been so used to bad news was really hard to get my head around the good news of a positive pregancy! Had some bleeding at 7 and 8 weeks so had early scan and that was nice and now 12 week scan all was great. Feeling alot less tired and anxious now past 12 weeks. Missing the wine also........ x

Hooey · 29/03/2011 18:32

BumpyBecs congratulations after everything you've been through. I bet you're becoming more relieved as the days go by. I'm 15 weeks now and it's been pretty horrific so far. Lots of sickness but that's wearing off just slightly now. I'd like some wine right now as well!

BumpyBecs · 29/03/2011 18:40

Hi Hooey, Thanks hun! Oh yes it has been quite long a road to get here!! Glad the sickness is getting better for you and continues to do so. I was quite lucky and felt a bit nauseous but never actually sick - worst for me was the tiredness - I genuinely didn't expect that. By 3.30pm each day I could have slept right through till the next day! I have a hectic job as well which didn't help but they all knew at work, because of the fertility treatment, from the date I got a positive test so were (on the whole) able to support and understand when I turned into a gibbering mess at the end of each day! What day are you due? Are you getting bigger now? I just look like I've eaten too many pies! Wish I looked a bit more pregnant and not just fat Blush x

rosalux · 29/03/2011 19:04

Me too. I'm due in mid August with my first. I've just had my 20wk scan (at 19 weeks) and all is well and I feel SO much more relaxed than previously (though not actually completely relaxed (a) because I have an anterior placenta and so cannot yet feel baby kick and (b) because I'm just not that sort of person). I am also SO much bigger than all the other women I saw at the hospital. Ho hum. Baby likes icecream, what can I say?

Hooey · 29/03/2011 19:41

Yep had that tiredness too but luckily only work part time these days (for the most boring of reasons) so it's been pretty manageable. I wish I looked pregnant, I just look like I've got a flabby jelly belly and like I've put on serious amounts of weight on my stomach. Not a good look at all. This is my first as well so it's all completely unknown.

Rosalux what's an anterior placenta? Sounds interesting!

seasaltbaby · 29/03/2011 22:14

Ooh yes, me too! I'm 31 also expecting my first. I'm still quite early days, 9+4, and think I'll be due round end of Oct all being well. So far its all been ok, no awful symptoms to deal with, just some mild nausea & tiredness. Still anxiously waiting for my first scan for someone to actually confirm all is ok!
Out of curiosity, where have u guys chosen to have the baby? At my booking in appointment last week, the very first thing I had to do was choose either southmead or st Michaels, I had no idea! Ended up going for southmead but for no real reason, does anyone have any experience of either hospital? Nice to meet some other brissle folk :)

Yukana · 30/03/2011 00:07

Near to Bristol here, I often go there. Expecting my first in august, finally over five months along! :) Nervous about going to Bristol to give birth though, I've heard they only have one water birthing pool.

KatyN · 30/03/2011 08:05

hey hey, I'm from bristol too... live in hotwells, work at UWE. I'm currently 7+3 and feel DREADFUL!

soooo sick all the time. can not wait for 12 weeks so I can tell people, at the minute they must think I'm the most miserable witch ever.

Are you birthing at s.mead or st michaels?? I'm not sure how you decide?

kt

seasaltbaby · 30/03/2011 09:07

Hey katyn my husband works at uwe! Sorry your feeling dreadful so far, not nice to deal with.
No idea how u decide which hospital but have a think about it before your first booking appointment! We went for smead as know someone else who had baby there and said was ok. There is only one birthing pool and only if your in the low key, less medical birth suite (can't remember what its called) which u can only access if you have v good medical & ante natel history & no complications! Also depends on how many other women r there on same day, so chances are quite low I guess!

Alicebw · 30/03/2011 09:16

Hi all, glad you could join us! Bumpybecs so glad your treatment worked this time. And rosalux my baby LOVES ice cream lol! I'm going to St Michaels for the baby. The only reason I chose it though is because its closest to where I live (Redland). I don't really know anything about it. I've got this book and it suggests you go and check out the hospital with all these questions, but so long as they're clean that's all I care about really. I had my scan there and they were very nice. Does anyone go to the midwife place at the top of Cotham Hill. It's nice to know there are a few of us expecting at a similar time. I might look into getting extra antenatal classes. I've been sick as a chip too and its not going away. boo hoo.

I'm going to the MW place on cotham hill (hampton house) next monday morning for my form filling appointment. I don't think it's my official booking in appointment and I've been told to expect a pretty dull session. the lady even said I probably shouldn't bother brinigng my husband along as he'd be B O R E D!!!

rosalux · 30/03/2011 11:30

Hooey: anterior placenta is when the placenta is at the front. It cushions you from baby's movements so although I'm now almost 20wks I have only felt mild flutterings/burbling.

I am booked in at St M because it's closest (we live in Hotwells too) and my friend had her baby their last year. Not thrilled about paucity of birthing pools though. Also attending midwife clinics etc at Hampton House.

Has anyone found non nct ante natal classes? There are none in bs8 and hardly any in bs6 for reasons quite unknown to me since the HH class I went to was heaving (mostly with blondes bizarrely)

Alicebw · 30/03/2011 12:03

Haven't looked for any antenatal classes yet, but will do. KatyN he probably would be bored, mine was lol poor thing.
Rosalux that sounds interesting about the placenta, its the first time I've heard of it, but that's not surprising seen as this is my first time!
What are HH Classes?

OP posts:
awpo · 30/03/2011 16:22

I'm also in Bristol (Redland) & due at end of May - 1st baby. Planning home birth but have heard generally good things about both S-Mead & St. Michael's. If need arises to go to hospital it will be St. M's but just because it's closest.

Maybe it's a Bristol thing - my baby likes ice cream too - esp chocolate!

Is HH class Hampton House maybe? I'm doing NCT classes - not sure about other ones sorry.

rosalux · 30/03/2011 16:56

HH is Hampton House yes. I want to do NCT but they all seem to be in BS2; BS7 or BS6 but basically westbury on trym and as the main point for me would be to meet parents close by that's pretty pointless. Will keep looking. BS8 mums to be must meet each other somewhere

Alicebw · 30/03/2011 17:15

Doh silly me about the HH thing.

Hi ladies,

Alicebw - your baby is gorgeous!!! Smile

Yes filling in appointment is nothing to write home about, just blood and wee samples, lots of questions and weight / height etc.

We are going to S-Mead, can't have a home birth due to it being assisted fertility and they prefer us to be in hosp. Haven't really thought about how I want to deliver - I was asked at my first MW appoint and didn't have a clue - still don't much, birthing suites, private rooms..whats the difference - does anyone know??

Don't really know anything about ante natal either - got my second MW appoint in 2 weeks but if anyone has any advice in the meantime..

Would be nice to meet parents around the same area (North Bradley Stoke / Almonsbury) but be nice to meet anyone in Bristol really in similar situ as me (13+4).
