I haven't had one yet (am 24 weeks) but I really really want one.

I reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaally do.

Is everyone else eating them?

Am I worrying about nothing?

Specifically curry. But I'm nearly out of gaviscon so perhaps I shouldn't Hmm

I really hope so as I've had one once a week through out and I'm 24 weeks which means 24 consumed!! Grin

So long as you have a balanced diet I don't see why a takeaway will hurt?

vicbar · 26/03/2011 17:59

I think take aways are essential in pregnancy.

stottiecake · 26/03/2011 18:01

Well it's really if there's a risk of food poisoning. Diet's fairly balanced....

mmmmmm takeaway curry :o

lolajane2009 · 26/03/2011 18:02

I am trying to get weight on and using takeaways to try to do it. I hope they are Ok.

Vegasgirl · 26/03/2011 18:03

I was advised none but I think some are ok as long as they are cooked well to piping hot. I avoided subways (cold meats and those typs of salad are a listeria risk) and chinesse (to avoid msg) but I did have some "sizzling type" Indian takeaway and stuff out of the fish and chip shop with no problems.

On the other hand I know people who ate all types of takeaway and were fine - It would mainly be Subway that would be risky IMO.

stottiecake · 26/03/2011 18:03

Are they vicbar? Phew! That's a relief!!! Grin

I agree with vicbar. But then that probably contributed to my 4 stone weight gain with DD! I craved a very particular curry from the chinese which was conveniently located two streets away from my house.

I suppose as long as you go to a takeaway you trust and have eaten at before, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Apparently milk works in place of gaviscon but I never needed it as I always had a bottle of 600ml gaviscon to hand throughout pregnancy ;) (and since, actually - she's 10 months and I still have it bad)

Dynababy · 26/03/2011 18:06

Never heard of not having them during preg, use a reputable one you've been to before and like and you'll be fine! Enjoy!

stottiecake · 26/03/2011 18:06

We have never had any probs with our curry suppliers in the past so am thinking I'll probably go for it.

I'm a big worrier. Can you tell?

I had them all the way through (once every so often, as a treat, not every night, lol) and never came to any harm. I would just make sure that I went somewhere that I had been before and that I trusted to be clean/cook the food properly.

thenightsky · 26/03/2011 18:08

I nearly lived on chicken fried rice when I was pregnant... it was my one massive craving... soaked in soy sauce too.

stottiecake · 26/03/2011 18:10

Thanks all!!!! This is great news!!! Grin

We lived on them when I had mega exhaustion at the beginning. Am now 38+5 and we're having the kitchen refitted so are once again eating them regularly. I love a curry and have indulged throughout. Mmmmmmm

MainlyMaynie · 26/03/2011 18:14

I hope they're ok, I've been having plenty of them! Can't see why they'd be any more risky than making the same stuff at home really.

Pesha · 26/03/2011 18:27

Well I'm 26weeks pg with No. 4 and have eaten takeaways fairly often with all of them, never crossed my mind not to! I also had a meatball subway the other day although possibly wouldn't have if I'd stopped and thought about it!

Quite fancy a chicken passanda tonight and really CBA to cook so I do hope they're ok!

Badgerwife · 26/03/2011 18:36

My god I certainly hope it's OK, otherwise I'd feel sorry for any chinese or indian woman not being able to eat at all throughout their pregnancy! They do cook things from scratch in proper takeaway shops I presume so the way I look at it it's just like home cooking apart from I didn't have to make it myself. I avoid the prawns but that's all.

You're only pregnant, you are still allowed to have a life.
I wouldn't give it a second thought (slacker mother here).

TerrysNo2 · 26/03/2011 18:56

Are you crazy?!?! Enough stuff is banned already, don't deprive me of takeaways!! Wink

Pick up that phone now!! Grin

well my chinese craving was out of control in the early weeks!! i craved noodles and chow mein particularly, now moved onto curry!! 24w also today btw.

stegasaurus · 26/03/2011 20:26

I've never heard or read anything that suggests take-aways are not ok. I've eaten quite a few during pregnancy and not had any problems. Like others say, it is likely to be ok if it is from a reputable place that you have eaten from before and trust not to poison you.
