imo they can help you if you have complications, if you dont they are a waste of space

most of the time the midwives tell them what to do anyway

nailpolish · 26/10/2005 14:28

ESPECIALLY sho's - midwives have more experience and common sense (most of the time)

but im biased

Enid · 26/10/2005 14:28

yep thats what i thought. They swan around dont they?

they will leave the room telling you they want to consult a colleague - this invariably a midwife

nailpolish · 26/10/2005 14:29

never saw a consultant in 2 pg's thank god

Enid · 26/10/2005 14:29

lol

bloody hell it irritates me

I am the opposite I am 'high risk' and my midwife will not tell me anything or answer any questions and refers me to the Consultant. It is so frustrating that she will not even discuss most things with me. I am lucky my consultant is great and does answer any questions I ask. He is discussing my birth with me in a much more factual way than any midwife would as he will be doing the C section and other surgery.

But..... I think I am the exception to the rule i prefer my consultant to the midwife. Good luck in getting the care you want.

freakyzebra · 26/10/2005 14:31

It's just a 2nd opinion, from someone trained to look at you &your situation differently. It may be a rubbish 2nd opinion, of course.

DrWhydoIbother · 26/10/2005 14:31

Yes

We know nothing, we do nothing and we help no one.

In fact, I'll stay home from now on and leave midwives to do it all.

OrribleOliveoil · 26/10/2005 14:31

I was going to post are you hormonal when you started this thread but was scared.

nailpolish · 26/10/2005 14:32

who needs a 2nd opinion on a completely healthy pg though? (you do have a completely healthy pg dont you enid? or have i missed something?)

Enid · 26/10/2005 14:33

shouldnt that be Mrwhydoibother?

I guess when the s**t hits the fan they can do a cs for you...

(I've had two cs's and the second one was done by a woman and she stitched me so much more nicely!)

I avoided them until the aforementioned dung-meeting-airconditioning incident. Best policy I think. They just annoy and scare you.

Enid · 26/10/2005 14:34

looks that way so far oo (fingers X'd)

am hormonal (obv) but also realising that i hate hospitals and think I have lots of unresolved 'issues' (snurk) about bad treatment in past.

DrWhydoIbother · 26/10/2005 14:34

No, I am not a surgeon

I am a medic

nailpolish · 26/10/2005 14:34

isnt it surgeons are called Mr and the rest Dr

Enid · 26/10/2005 14:35

the consultants at my hosptial are Mr so and so and Mr blah.

OP posts:
freakyzebra · 26/10/2005 14:35

maybe it's just a 2nd opinion on the fact whether yours is a completly healthy pregnancy?

All I know is with my first baby, the 34 week scan said he was gonna be a whopper, even though I had a pretty small bump.

"You don't look that big because you're fit", said consultant 1.
"You don't look that big because you're tall", said consultant 2.
"The baby really doens't feel that big", said community MW, prodding me 2 weeks later.

No awards for guessing who was right, I would trust the MW to be most informed, too.

DrWhydoIbother · 26/10/2005 14:36

then they are consultant surgeons

nailpolish · 26/10/2005 14:36

they must be surgeons enid then, they must be planning a secret cs for you

or maybe they are porters

nailpolish · 26/10/2005 14:36

joke btw

Enid · 26/10/2005 14:37
