i snogged a sho once - he took his glasses off first and put them in his top pocket next to his stethoscope

it was very professional of him

i take it you are concerning them greatly then, the cons sending the reg and the reg sending the sho

I have to say, when I was exposed to parvovirus during pregnancy the consultant was fab and knew exactly what he was doing whereas the midwives I spoke to hadn't a clue. I would always prefer to have access to both midwives and consultants as they have complementary but not always overlapping expertise IMHO.

agree tamum if I had any concerns I wouldnt mind seeing a consultant.

i felt sidelined as the only reason I was sent there was age

I was under consultant led care from about half way through my pregnancy. The consultants were able to put things in perspective a bit more for me and explain things better IME but that might just be that my community midwife irrated the hell out of me and everyone else in the area ! On a practical note, the consultants were able to do specialist scans that mw didn't do.

My consultant was also female - although during the birth I think I saw just about every consultant and sho the hospital had (I was there a while) and they were all great ! The female SHO that ended up doing my C-S was fantastic.

But I DID have a problem that required consultant led care - not just a matter of age !! Would have thought that was a waste of resources IMO.

If you have a high-risk pregnancy they can be fab.

DD was delivered by a consultant b/c I needed forceps, but it was a midwife who decided to call her in - fortunately pretty early on in the game and she was never in any distress.

KristinaM · 26/10/2005 19:35

Enid - are you getting consultant care because of your age? You must be really old - I am 43 and have only been at the hospital twice during this pregnancy.

nutcackle · 26/10/2005 19:38

I mostly agree with Expat (, not sure thats happened before).

All of my pregnancies have been classed as high risk for a number of reasons.

My consultant with Dd1 and Dd2 was fab and the whole hospital were sad when he left.

My consultant when I had ds was a witch and if I ever have any more kids I will take great pleausre in telling her to stick her opinions where the sun doesn't shine.
