As the old thread is nearly full here it is time a brand new thread is born. All we need now is a new vomit face emoticon MN towers!

We are a bunch of past, present and future Confused HG sufferers (along with worried spouses, family and friends) who use this thread to support, listen and discuss the dreaded pregnancy illness that is HG (hyperemesis gravidarum).

There are no limits on how much moaning posters can do nor can anyone's symptoms or experiences be tmi.

The old thread has been a great support to many of us and we hope this new thread carries on the great work started by old thread founder and HG guru LucindaE. She still maintains, supports and clucks Grin around the thread daily even though her own experience of HG is thankfully over.

So with no further incoherent rambling from me on with the new thread eh?

Quick post on phone whilst on hols - enjoying sun & sea and old fashioned fun in Swanage, Dorset (suncastles, steam trains and 3yo worrying addiction to tuppance slot machines!) Just working up to a cream tea :)

Pipoca congrats on safe arrival of DD, wonderful news. Birth sounded quick so hope all went well :) Woo hoo to no more sickness x

Diddygirl sorry that you had to join our crew of nauseous pukers. Cyclizine helped me greatly with reducing vomit after about 1 week but only minimised nausea a little but everyone diff (know Nitnat had opp effect) and hopefully will help you greatly :)

Feeling lot better last few days after switching iron tablets. For anyone else who suffers with amenia then do ask for Ferrous Fumarate as apparently better tolerated if suffer with nausea. GP was going to sign me off as iron so low but agreed reduced hours note again - had so much time off and although paid as fab sick leave benefits (much more generous than mat leave!) I want to be amenable so close to mat leave. Thank goodness can avoid rush hour on tube and staring down young fit uns for a seat on bus ;)

Thanks Only for piles med tip. Prescibed suppositries that seem to be working; something to look fwd to at end of every day!

MOH well done on info just hope it gets published. The only UK parenting site I could find that had decent info was babycentre and luckily advised re meds / dehydration as not sure I would have gone to GP and been hospitalised otherwise. This is in invaluable, thanks so much - will also print it for next appt with consultant as shocking lack of NHS leaflets about condition.

Big up to Lucinda too and all fellow sufferers as this forum has both educated and supported me x x

nitnatnaboo · 16/05/2011 20:09

Hurrah for Pipoca! Great news and love the name Isabel. Smile Smile Smile A week early = 1 week less of HG - well done. 2 1/2 hours as well - Karma does exist after all!

Bump has been measured today and is spot on for number of weeks. Was measuring small last pg and kept getting sent off for more scans so glad this one is not to be a repeat performance. Only thing is, being "normal for dates" feels absoutely MASSHOOSIVE! Am sure I wasn't this big at 40+11 last time! I look like Mr Greedy from the side. Shock. Cannot imagine how big I am going to be by the end. Smile Just goes to show how little food babies actually need in the peak HG weeks when everyone is worrying about getting enough food down them!

Love to all

grandmaagain · 16/05/2011 20:10

thank you moh thinking of an item a few pages ago called The Rules by jonnyd1 wonder if any of that might be useful? hope i may ask for help on that "paste" thing not to sure how to do that Blush

ElliottsMummy · 16/05/2011 20:57

Pipoca congratulations on your new arrival, great name - would be on my list but some friends already used it first!! Very jealous you have reached the end of your HG journey and can enjoy not feeling sick! :)

La73 sounds like you are having a good hols down in my neck of the woods - good old south west! Hope you're having good weather, it's been a bit changeable here in Devon!!

LOL at Nitnat Mr Greedy reference is kinda reminding me of my current reflection and I'm only just over halfway....

Hi to everyone else, hope you've all had an ok day xx

LucindaE · 17/05/2011 10:12

Pipoca Congrats again, love the name Isabel too, was thinking of Isabella at once time for D/D.
La Thanks, hugs to you but gentle ones, as you must be 'a fine size' by now. Sounds lovely in Dorset. I have learnt a lot myself from this thread, about coping strategies, mutual support, courage, humour and endurance from everyone on this thread. Thanks to All past and present.
NitNatI was massive, too, you are so right about the babies' nourishment needs - I've the body goes into starvation mode to safeguard the baby first, which is partly why you feel so terrible (not as if you wouldn't anyway) as the little nourishment you can get goes straight to the baby...
MOH Oh dear, that reminds me...Should we add that by way of reassurance? And Grandma, you are so right about the rules. Poor MOH you will never stop typing, but what an achievment it will be.
On which subject,Lottie Thinking of you, and that whopper of a baby...
Diddy How are you feeling now on the meds?
ElliottsMummy Devon? My family lived there for four years, in the middle of nowhere, seven miles from Barnstaple. It's very beautiful there...
Pearl Congratulations on scan, lovely, it changes your whole perspective.
How is Grumblin? I do hope not still sick, but I fear so? You deserve a medal, and working too, and with two LO's...
Fluffy Yes, Pipoca enters the pink castle, and is ushered to the pampering room...
Cocoaunts Still I hope on the up?

grumblinalong · 17/05/2011 13:07

Hey all - lucinda yes still here and still sick. Weekend was a write off. I'm really hoping for a couple of weeks early baby like pipoca as I'm getting fed up now - Big congratulations to you pip - Isobel was one of our names for DS2. Gorgeous. Glad it was an ultra quick birth for you.

nitnat last time MW measured me 3/4 weeks ago I was sent for a scan immediately because bump was measuring 26 weeks and I was 32 weeks gone - baby is a fine size/weight apparently, its just me who is malnourished & ruined. My bump isn't huge but feels like a lump of concrete and turning over in bed at night is vile. Hope your baby's feet have moved, she's not diving down is she? Ouch.

the only a 'little bit sick' Angry I find midwives do this alot 'oh you've been a bit sick' 'Oh your blood pressure is a little bit low' 'Oh your bump is on the small side'. I know they're trying to reassure us but I find it a bit infantalising (sp?) tbh. God, I've got lots of raging pregnancy hormones at mo Smile

littlewizz Glad the steak & chips worked - Jamie's italian in leeds is fab too. Can't wait to resume my restaurant visiting post HG.

Just had a bit of a scare - I was sat in my car, stationary at a red traffic light without the handbrake on (naughty grumblin) and suddenly everything started spinning, I felt really dizzy, next thing I know, huge bang. I'd hit the back of the car in front of me, my foot must have come off the footbrake. Luckily my car is small and the other car was a huge landrover so there was no damage but the man shouted at me a bit! It was so weird, think my blood pressure must be low or something. So be careful fellow HG drivers Grin

grumblinalong · 17/05/2011 17:22

OP posts:
theonlyhb2 · 17/05/2011 17:46

grumlin, littlewizz is after agbag (06-11-11), do not panic!!! ;)

Lucinda, it too has hit me I am further along than even I thought. It seems strange to say I am about 6 months pregnant as I dont look as massive as I expected (mum had HG with me for the whole time yet managed to gain 4 stone! and look 9 months gone at 6 months). I think I am more wide than stick out at front. its starting to look like a pregnant bump rather than toomanycakes bump, but I swear I am the same width from shoulders to hips now!

still feeling good, no sick at ALL (I should clean my bathroom, there is no "it will only be covered in puke again soon" excuse (oh the shame!)

2 months left at work! going to Kiddicare in Peterborough tomorrow, and NEC Baby Show Saturday so perhaps will then have more than 3 packs of nappies.

hugs for all (I must say, even though some of you still being so ill, we all sound a lot happier now than a few months ago! do you think the weather helps this?)

LucindaE · 17/05/2011 17:59

Grumblin Really sorry you still feel so bad, no wonder you feel desparate, who wouldn't, poor you?! Nearly there now...I am sending nice easy birth wishes your way, well, it's a third, soon you'll be posting here saying 'I feel so good now'.

Caramel Lovely to hear from you as always. How do you like the pink castle, cushions, tea, cake and baby toys etc?
TheOnly So your poor mother suffered in the 'no sympathy allowed' days? Congrats on designer bump...
Everyone I hope not suffering badly...

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 17/05/2011 18:24

HB - I will be venturing to Kiddicare in P'boro in the coming weeks. You never know we may pass each other and never even know!!

Looking at the list, a few of us had/have scans this week? Diddygirl, MOP, Lottie and me. Hope everyone else's is/was ok.

All ok ish at my end. Sickness is at bay, cyclizine is happily gathering dust in the cupboard :) but suffering terribly with constipation which in turn is making me nauseous, crampy, irritable, headaches. Am now on a concoction of OJ and lactulose. Gave up with the fybogel, revolting stuff. I just need a poo Blush

Also have a thread regarding cramps I've been getting, hopefully just stretchy pains but still a bit worrying.

Waves to everyone else :)

MotherofPearl · 18/05/2011 13:40

Come on to moan I'm afraid. Just when I thought I was a lot better, the last day or so has seen a return of the voms in a big way. Have been feeling horrible all morning, thought maybe I needed a proper proteiny lunch to settle me down (sometimes seems to work) so defrosted some homemade bolognaise, cooked a bit of rice to go with it (pasta always comes straight up). Needless to say, 20 mins after eating it all came back out. Revolting. And this is on 3 x cyclizine a day and just entering week 14. Argh. I hate the unpredictability of it all. I can go for a day or two with no voms at all, then some days I'll be back to 3 or 4. Do other people on cyclizine experience this?

While I'm on here also have another question please, which hopefully won't seem too stupid! Blush There's a possibility I may have to have a planned c section this time round (owing to complications from the aftermath of first time round) and I'm wondering if hg gets 'turned off' as effectively after a caesarian as after a natural birth? I remember from the first time that the transformation from 'feeling sick all the time' to 'YAY not feeling sick at all bring on the tea and toast' was pretty much immediate, and assume this is to do with all the hormones suddenly being very different post-birth. I wonder whether these hormonal changes kick in as quickly and effectively if birth not natural? Any insights gratefully received! Hope others are enjoying relatively vom-free days. Smile

allias · 18/05/2011 13:53

Hello all! Appologies from now as am posti g from phone and typos may occur LOL.
Firstly I just wanted to say a big thank you for this thread, I have been readi g it from the first page for the last month or so.
I have been so ill and dizzy and miserable not posted till now, this us my 5th pg and had HG with all, I was in a state of panic as this pg not planned but am starting to sink in that a baby is coming.

I have this thread saved to my phone and read it every morning and evening and when I feel really rotten and although not posted I feel close to you all as you have spoken like you were in my head IYSWIM. I have had to hide all my symptoms while at work and church as I am waiting for scan, I haven't made it to the docs yet as work, kids, tiredness and sickness but I plan to go this week, I could do with being off work at the mo but really want a promotion that I'm already far down the list for.

At the moment I'm not as sick as before but the nausea is terrible, the dizzyness frightening and Sooooo tired. I can't eat most things and even rice is a no no, I have to force myself to eat and havent been able to face anything but water for weeks but I noticed that water makes me ill!! Oh the injustice LOL.
I live of toast but I come to the point that I'm gonna be sick anyway so eat knowing it will come back, sorry to be graphic but I choose things that are not horrid coming back up.

Just thought I'd let you know I am posting under a changed name for the moment as some RL know my regular name and as I say not telling RL yet just a couple who can help me and pray,

So thanks again everyone and I'm sure I'll be posting here alot,

Congratations to the births and twin lady

diddygirl · 18/05/2011 14:40

Hi all,
Well the cyclizine is only really taking the edge off the sickness. I haven't been as sick but the nausea is still as bad. The midwife has told me to persevere with the cyclizine and to get back in touch if I feel it's not working and they will look at altering/changing it.

It was all so worthwhile at the scan this morning when I saw the baby waving its arms about. After 2 miscarriages last year I would have given anything to experience HG again!!

I thought I was 9 weeks and 2 days, but the midwife said I'm 10 weeks exactly. I am pretty sure of my dates though. Am I more likely to be wrong than her? I'm not complaining tho, being more advanced is good, even if it's only 5 days.

Congrats to Pipoca. My DD is an Isabelle. It's a lovely name.

All the best to others gearing up for the birth. When your little baby is handed over to you, the HG will be history. There's no better feeling in the world than meeting your baby for the first time.

LucindaE - how many children do you have?

XX

Boosaphena · 18/05/2011 15:22

Hi All
I've been a bit AWOL of late, i thought if I didnt focus on the HG as much it might go away... I was wrong :(
I'm 19 weeks now and still puking every day, not as much tho but still on the cyclizine. I had hoped to be off it before 20 weeks but it looks unlikely. I have however been able to eat most things and have finally started to gain some weight which i'm pleased about.
I'm completely exhausted tho - is evryone like this? I dont know that i've ever known tiredness like this.

Anyhow it looks like every one has been busy - I hope everyone is finding coping mechanisms. I'm also interested in the Csection side of things being turned off, have one planned too so will be hoping it all switches off like with birth!

Take care

ElliottsMummy · 18/05/2011 15:43

Welcome alias sorry you have to join us but it's nice to hear the thread has kept you going for the last few weeks. Do try and get to the docs asap, if you don't want to take time off work at least they should be able to sort you out with some medication to make things more manageable. Don't worry about describing things, nothing is too much information here!!! Water is a no-go for me too (even at 21wks!) - I found juices were better as thicker and seemed not to slosh around in my stomach so much.

diddygirl I also found my dates were different when I had my scan and was sure mine were right, the lady said it's possible to ovulate slightly earlier/later than you think some months even if your cycle is regular! Good news to have a few days less of HG :)

Motherofpearl interesting question regarding c-sections, I had one first pregnancy but no HG so couldn't tell you, may end up with another one (gona try for natural and see what happens) so would be interested to find out this also.....

Coconuts not sure how to get to your other thread but are your cramps down really low? I have been getting some but haven't been worried as my bump is high and I think this is the lower bit stretching to catch up!! Or I used to get occasional pains there before pregnancy when I ate too much White bread and, as bread has been my main food for the last countless number of wks I haven't been worried!!

Lucinda I live in Exmouth on the opposite coast to Barnstaple. Must admit it's is lovely living here - pace of life is so much more chilled than anywhere else I've visited and scenery is gorgeous. We live ten minutes walk from the beach so v.lucky :)

grumblin sorry to hear about your accident, hope you are ok. So glad I don't drive!!

Hi to everyone else and hope you are having an ok day xx

ElliottsMummy · 18/05/2011 15:49

boo crossed posts with you!! Yes definitly exhausted, more so now back at work. Told my mum about it today and she said "well you are pregnant" keep forgetting theres a good excuse!! Combine that with reduced food/drink and medication that can cause drowsiness! I just try not to do too much and rest whenever I get a chance!

caramellokoalalover · 18/05/2011 15:58

Grumblin the HG hell feels like another me really, it's bizarre how different you feel physically and mentally when you have HG. I am still constantly rejoicing in the fact that I can eat and drink as normal though, so I haven't forgotten that's for sure. Hang in there, you'll be joining us in the pink castle soon!

Scarlett is sleeping well really for a newborn. She goes 8-12amish then 12:30am till 4ish then a quick feed and through to about 7/8am. Can't complain! She's sleeping now while I pop my head in to check on you all whilst scoffing lemon drizzle cake. Hope the thought of cake hasn't made anyone reach for the bowl!

My pregnancy brain is still with me though. I turned up at a weighing clinic today only to be told it is on tomorrow. I had spent all day thinking it was Thursday today. Der.

MotherofPearl, rice = very bad reappearing. ouch. you poor thing. Sorry, can't comment on the CS question, not too sure, but am sure there will be someone along soon who has had HG and a CS.

allias welcome but sad to hear you are suffering from your 5th HG pregnancy. Wow, I am in awe. Oh and as you've probably noticed, nothing too grim for this thread so feel free to speak openly and not get any Shock faces here, just plenty of sympathy.

Congrats on the scan diddy, glad everything is well!

Big wave hello to you boosaphena, I had wondered where you had been. I'm afraid the exhaustion is normal. I think HG takes everything out of you and leaves you like a shell. Glad to hear that you're gaining weight now though and able to eat a more varied diet. Hooray to that!

Pompoms out here, cheering you all on. Hope you're all ok.

AgBag · 18/05/2011 16:31

Hi All, sorry I've not been posting much.. I've been sleeping a lot! Am still vomiting (at 18 weeks now) but the frequency has started to go down! yay!
So low on energy though, I guess the weight loss and lack of nutrition doesnt help.

I'm really hoping it will all disappear soon!

Hope everyone else is improving

LucindaE · 18/05/2011 17:46

Alias Welcome, sorry you are suffering again, fancy being able to work with Hyperemesis and four kids. I'm glad you have found the thread useful. Never worry about tmi, no doubt you have seen some of the graphic stuff on here...My awful jokes about the bins of London, etc. One has to think of food in terms of its reappearance. As you are so experienced I don't feel in any position to offer advice, my goodness, can only second what others have said, do try and get some meds, and can't resist suggesting jelly and ice lollies as better than nothing...
Cocoanuts I had cramps, never did find out the cause, maybe as you suggest, stretching?
PearlSorry about relapse and rice - horrors, as bad as cooked cheese. Sometimes women find that they have a relapse after things have been better but it does go off again - I do hope that is so for you. Sorry can't answer question about effects of C/S. I hope someone can?
Diddy Lovely about scan. I have only one, sadly, and one confirmed miscarriage before, and probably a couple I didn't notice when actively trying not to conceive. It's a long and dull story as to why I stopped at one, but I wish I had more...A lot of you are far more Hyperemesis veterans than me, my only distinguishing feature was the level of medical neglect I received (apart from wonderful Acupunture cure), which made me investigate a lot of coping mechanisms.
Boosphena Welcome back, sorry you are stil suffering, I hope you haven't been too stoic, I get the impression exhaustion is general, for sure I have never been so tired even with a sleepless baby.Glad you've had a slight improvement, but sorry about puking, horrible...
Agbag Sorry it's not gone, how that Hyperemesis likes to linger...
Caramel Lovely of you to be faithful to thread - hugs to you-a good sleeper, you are lucky, but you deserve it after that prolonged torture...
Grumblin thinking of you, and of NitNat whom I hope is picking up a bit, and Everyone I have rudely not named, look after ourselves.
ElliottsMummy So you live really near where I used to. I lived half a mile from Athrington. Are the beach at Insow and the sand dunes still lovely?

redundant · 18/05/2011 18:30

hello, just popping in to answer Pearl's Q re c-section (I normally just lurk and read, which has been a big support for me!) - the good news is I had HG last time round, had an em c-section and was absolutely fine immediately. Well, was obv sore etc! - but HG wise it went straight away.

I thought I just had bad morning sickness to start with this 2nd time round, but I don't know - 30 weeks and feel awful still, spent all day in bed today. Have got a UTI so that's not helping.

Interested to read a couple of comments re low blood pressure - i have this, and the dizziness and closeness to fainting a few times in this pregnancy is horrid. I've wondered whether if you have low BP it makes you more prone to HG? Bit like the thing of if you get travel sick you are more likely to?

I also am always, even when not pg, one of those people that has to eat really regularly or my blood sugar seems to plummet and then I feel dizzy too! All things together are prob just a bad combination!

Hope everyone is doing ok and hanging in there, take care all.

MotherofPearl · 18/05/2011 18:53

Thanks for that Redundant, that's reassuring about c-sections. Also interested in the things you mention as perhaps predisposing certain women to HG. I too have low blood pressure, suffer from travel sickness and can never miss a meal without feeling very weak and shaky. This is v interesting! :)
