As the old thread is nearly full here it is time a brand new thread is born. All we need now is a new vomit face emoticon MN towers!

We are a bunch of past, present and future Confused HG sufferers (along with worried spouses, family and friends) who use this thread to support, listen and discuss the dreaded pregnancy illness that is HG (hyperemesis gravidarum).

There are no limits on how much moaning posters can do nor can anyone's symptoms or experiences be tmi.

The old thread has been a great support to many of us and we hope this new thread carries on the great work started by old thread founder and HG guru LucindaE. She still maintains, supports and clucks Grin around the thread daily even though her own experience of HG is thankfully over.

So with no further incoherent rambling from me on with the new thread eh?

I have been on 1 Avomine at bedtime since I was 8 wks, I also take buccastem in the day. I have not had any problems with it, sorry u have experienced nightmares Marylou :( not everything is a good fit for everyone so maybe try something else instead?

Coconuts I am 16+2 so will let you know, u are lucky to have already had a sneaky listen :) it's a part of the checks that I really enjoyed last time!

CakeForBreakfast · 12/04/2011 13:40

cadbury's boosts! Marylou you are a genius. Am just running off to ask dh to buy me some

LucindaE · 12/04/2011 16:54

MaryLou I have just thought - are you on B6? When I took supplements of those I had very vivid dreams - often nightmares - and that is a side affect for some - I suppose with the Avomine having that side affect sometimes too, it would be a double whammy...Sorry that no meds seem to be of use. It must be distressing to see LO copying, but from all I've heard from other Mums they stop the 'play vomiting' as soon as you get better. One little girl even had her own bowl.
Cake I am sorry that you have had a relapse and re that GP, how lazy can she get, will it kill her to go down a flight of stairs and up again?I am glad the Homeopathy helps a bit, anyway...
TheOnly and
NitNat too. I hope it is temporary for all, and NitNat you must be so completely fed up with those bile-run to-sit-on-loo episodes.
ElliotsMum I am glad you are moving slowly forard.
Cocoanuts sorry no glow yet - hopefully at 16 weeks?
Boosepheena Best of luck with MIL, not a time when you feel like dealing with unsympathetic MIL's...
I hope Everyone is coping.

Oops I passed out at my midwife appointment and had to go lie down for 20minutes!! They had to take blood again cos when it was taken at 12 weeks I had low iron levels (didn't really shock me - don't think there's much iron in toast!) luckily it was after hearing the heartbeat which she said was nice and strong :)

ElliottsMummy · 12/04/2011 17:55

Just done a little google research after looking at my notes and I have low platelets - anyone else had this? Is it something that HG can cause I wonder?!?

littlewizz · 12/04/2011 18:23

Evening fellow pukers Busy on here today!

Well had a few better days but finished off with some dreadful evenings of nausea and puking. All I want to eat is rubbish, pizza, coke, crisps and cake and eating plenty of it its the only thing that staves off the nausea. Feel like zombie and asleep by 9. Like all could just book myself into a nice hotel room with bottle of cyclizine, soda water, pizza, tv, big comfy bed and just snooze for the next 7 months all by myself! Not hospital as they just come and poke and prod you every time you fall asleep and stick needles in you!

As for the poo thing i'm having the opposite and have the runs followed by a bile run every evening - joy! Thank god for bath next to loo!

Thinking of writing a diary so that can read it in 3 years time if i start getting broody!

lucinda spd is symphis pubis dysfunction or sometimes know as Pelvic Girdle Pain PGP and is the over relaxation of the ligaments causing pubic, pelvis and lower back pain. Pubic bone for me last time used to seperate. Imensly painful but it is treatable through the correct physio during and after preg. dont read next bit if your a first timer Mine was not helped by no treatment offered to first time mum who knew nothing and then my 9lb baby getting stuck at 9cm after 30 hrs labour (due to SPD) and being pulled back up during emergency c-sec.

safe to read now! coconuts is glowing possible starting to think its a myth! Hmmmm might try some choc angel delight

cakeforbreakfast you should have let loose some pregnant hormones on doctor. asking a preg woman to come back later!

Right hope your evenings are puke and nausea free as best they can.

fluffywhitekittens · 12/04/2011 20:01

Waves quickly and rushes off to deal with tired, hungry ds, hopefully back soon to comment on some of your posts.

theonlyhb2 · 12/04/2011 20:10

littlewizz, i think i lived on toast and junk for the first 4 months, normal food made me puke yet KFC was fine!

I had to take the avo off work as started throwing up a lot. i do think its the tiredness. physio has helped a bit with my neck (not my shoulder as thought, its the nerve from my neck that wraps round my shoulder blade. who even knew there was one) so hoping better night sleep. have had to give in and take anti sickness and hoping the pizza we just ordered is gonna stay down as nothing else has the past few days :(

so glad i am off tomorrow! lie in. i best enjoy the sleep I can get now.

MotherofPearl · 13/04/2011 15:23

Found this thread while trying to find out more about HG. Really does help reading about other people's experiences and being reminded that it's all worth it in the end when the baby's finally born.
I'm 8+4 and was hospitalised a couple of weeks ago with hg, now on cyclizine and finding it fairly helpful, although still sick a couple of times a day and so tired, totally bereft of any energy at all, feel like a limp rag! Worst time of day is between 5-7pm which is awful because it's virtually the only time I have with dd when she's home from nursery (I work full-time). Also not great to think of the 32 weeks that lie ahead and wish that time away. Was ill all the way through last time, although never got as bad as I've been this time around. Anyway, just nice to know there're other people in the same boat because it's pretty isolating and most people seem to think it's a trivial complaint because your pg and not able to imagine what it's like feeling sick 24/7.

littlewizz · 13/04/2011 15:33

hi ladies, feeling pretty down today, havent made it out of bed been puking all day and upset tum, think I have DS1's tummy bug he had at the weekend. Havent kept my tablets down, puked up all food and drink feel like a zombie and i'm only 10 weeks. Waiting for doc to call me back with some advice. Receptionist said my gp could call me tomorrow, what part of puking hot water out of bottom and 10 weeks preg did she not get having already puked for 8 weeks! Anyway said I needed call asap she said could I come in... said I wasnt leaving the comfort of my loo. So hopefully she got the message. On top of this DS1 has splinter and has been screaming for half an hour because he wont let me or oh get it out. Luckily OH at home today though I think he wishes he wasnt!

Welcome motherofpearl feel free to share all gripes moans and puke stories with all, you are not alone xxx

MotherofPearl · 13/04/2011 15:41

Sorry, there was a point to my post which I forgot to add! Does anyone else with hg struggle to get/keep warm? Feel freezing all the time, have to wrap myself in a blanket (luckily mainly work from home!). Confused

MotherofPearl · 13/04/2011 15:43

Thanks littlewizz. I feel for you, I really do. When I was at my worst a few weeks ago I coulnd't get out of bed for 3 days, apart from trips to the loo. It's just awful, unimaginable I think for those who've not been through it. Hope the dr arrives soon for you.

LucindaE · 13/04/2011 16:19

Welcome MotherofPearl. It's nice to meet you, and I am sorry for your sufferings, and your ending up in hospital. It is awful, and people do really think you are making a fuss about normal morning sickness. Are jelly, ice lollies, coke, ice cubes, Lucozade, fresh mint tea, milkshakes or nibbles of crisps any good for you? Some swear by lime juice or grapefruit, oddly enough, acid as it is. Feel free to moan all you like, it is so horrible. So you've been brave enough to go for it twice?
LittleWhizz Oh dear, is this that awful stomach bug that is going the rounds combined with Hyperemesis? If it is, at least it will be short lived.
Poor old you. 'hot water coming out of bottom' sounds sinister...
TheOnly Sorry that you seem to have taken a step back, that is miserable. Is it possible that it might be a bug with you, or is it a dismal relapse? Really sorry, it is all the worse when you are hoping you've put it behind you.
I hope Everyone else is coping today? Creeping towards that 40 weeks, Caramel!

Whizz Forgot to add, my goodness, what a nightmare birth experience! Somebody slipped up there...spd sounds the pits when combined with Hyperemesis...

MotherofPearl · 13/04/2011 16:27

Thanks LucindaE. Yes, I find I crave slivers of ice-cold fresh grapefruit mid-morning (must be the pink kind). Strange how every day there are new foods that seem like they're perfect, just what you've always wanted, but then suddenly you can go right off them, and they seem revolting! For now grapefruit works, also plain crisps and matzos crackers with tiny scraping of marmite.

grandmaagain · 13/04/2011 19:53

dearbike have been seething for last few days thinking about the dreadful treatment you had from your drmiserableoldcow whohateswomeneventhosheisone! it really is disgraceful and you must not let it pass she must be reported to either the practice manager or the general medical council IT WAS NEGLECT!!!!! and she must be made to realise that. I have become very fond of all you girls and reading of your experiences have really helped me to understand just what my poor DD is going through. I hope you don"t mind me saying that Blush so I get really angry on your behalf when you don"t get the medical help you need, she ought to be made to read this thread for the past 6 months!!! she might then understand that all of you are not malingerers or time wasters nobody would want to be that ill! rant over!!! best wishes to all.

BikeRunSki · 14/04/2011 09:14

Been feeling a bit better the last few days. Got up and dressed for the 4th time running a walked DS to nursery. Nearly out of cyclizine though, have to go and see Dr again but will make sure I see the sympathetic one. Am down from 3 to 2 tablets a day though, and barely touching the Ondanestron which the hosp gave me to take in between cyclizines.

Funny, when all this started I said I didn't want cyclizine as last pg I foudn it a bit "trippy". Now I am begging for it!

CakeForBreakfast · 14/04/2011 10:27

Hello everyone again,

LittleWhizz I just wanted to say I also have the runs everyday. AND I am freezing, always so cold. I put it down to the weight I've dropped since becoming pregnant.

I'm 10 weeks now and just got my fingers crossed that I might be one of those lucky ones where it might start easing from now. Experience tells me it will continue to get worse for another couple of weeks still, but I refuse to give up hope. Dh is worried about me. He says I look like a terminally ill patient sometimes and is horrified at the skinnyness.

littlewizz · 14/04/2011 10:58

Morning all, ended up at out of hours last night as got really dehydrated, Dr was lovely and really kind - dipped my teeny abmount of wee and said hmmm yes we need to keep you out of hospital as its far nicer to puke in your own toilet! So got a shot of metaclopromide in my bottom. Which does seem to have done the trick overnight and got to go back at 10 to see GP for a bit more. Doc suggested I tried Ondestron but out of hours community hospital dont stock it so going to to try and get some today. Though am worried about its safety as still in first trimester. Managed half a hot cross bun and a ribena lolly last night though the cup of tea i'm trying to drink this morning is threatening to end up down the loo.

pearl I'm better now but at 8 weeks I was constantly frozen could not get warm. Kept turning the heating up everyone else was cooking and I was frozen and with a blanket on. Though if your not eating you will have no energy to keep warm or fight the tiredness. It has passed and I'm much better with that now at 10+6 weeks!

BikeRunSki · 14/04/2011 12:06

Littlewizz If it is any comfort re: safety of drugs in first trimester - with DS, between weeks 8 and 14 I had cyclizine (orally and IV), metaclopromide, stemitil and, I think, Phernergan. From week 14 I felt better. DS was born big, strong and alert and, at 2.5 is as big, strong and alert as ever. Please don't worry about these drugs. This time (I am 12 weeks) i have had Ondeanestron too.

littlewizz · 14/04/2011 12:47

well went to docs had 3+ keytones got given buccastem to dissolve on gums (did tell him that would make me puke) and told to get some fluids down me if i wanted to avoid hospital which I do. Anyway got home and have managed two ice lollys.

Went downstairs OH seems to forget the need to wipe surfaces and put plates in dishwasher and wash sink out and throw dead tea bags away. Had asked him to get some meatballs out to defrost for DS1s dinner as can just serve with pasta sauce and pasta, OH could even manage that and its DS1s favourite and thought it would cheer him up after being packed off to holiday club at preschool today, bit upset with mummys puking.

Anyway went downstairs he had taken them out but put them frozen straight onto dirty rank chopping board (prob not been wiped for at least two days as been in bed) and gone out!! What are they like!! Anyway put them in covered bowl and sprayed lots of sanitiser spray -- sanitised kitchen and emptyed fridge of dead food to avoid more poisioning, had a bile run, then had cyclzine washed down with 1/4 glass of coke, followed by 1 hot frankfurter dunked in ketchup, things on the way up!.

Might try some salt and vinegar crisps later! Living on the edge!

Not too worried about my weight as have a fair bit spare and untill bug the only thing keeping the nausea under control was to eat (and take cyclizine!)

They didnt want to give ondandestron just yet as cyclizine was working prob just to ££ so when feeling brighter will go see Drwholikesmeandisnice to try and get some!

bike thanks for reassurance its just so hard when you know your not on top form and fairly desperate to make rational decisions. and when preg is so early you dont get a baby kick to reassure you everything is ok.

BikeRunSki · 14/04/2011 13:25

Oh God, with 3+ ketones my GP would have sent me direct to hospital.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 14/04/2011 14:08

Wizz, am also surprised he sent you home. I was hospitalised by ambulance with 2+ ketones. At 3+ you should definitely be rehydrated. Really hope you can manage some fluids somehow :)

littlewizz · 14/04/2011 15:47

managed another lolly, half a glass of choc milk and have had a wee!!! I have also kept my cyclizine down. I think he thought that now the bug had run its course I would manage to hydrate myself. Feeling brighter now, though still in bed. If I dont move I think I can get hydrated enough. Only thing is OH has to go to work tomorrow so think DS1 is in for a cbeebies and dvd day tomorrow! My feet are freezing though!!

BikeRunSki · 14/04/2011 16:01

Have been to Docs to ask for more cyclizine. Told receptionist specifically to send request to Nice Doc. Wish me luck...
