Goddamn maternity jeans falling down!

Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm past the point of trying to squeeze into my own trousers, being 18 weeks with DC3, so have moved into a nice new pair of maternity jeans but I have to keep hoisting them up. I thought the whole idea of maternity clothes was that they could see you through from when you were too big for normal stuff until full-term.

I feel less than glamorous Angry.

And perhaps slightly hormonal Blush.

Same problem and have tried different ones from different shops.

soppypreggyloon · 16/02/2011 18:25

It's normal but incredibly annoying!
I had same problem last time and with dc2 it's no better. Over bump styles no better than under bump IMO.
And I'm 30wks pg so have a significant bump now!

trixie123 · 16/02/2011 18:27

they are a pain in the arse. I generally wear leggings and a denim skirt instead.

midori1999 · 16/02/2011 18:32

I have a pair from Mothercare that don't fall down. They are 'over the bump' ones and have the elastic and buttons on the inside at the top of the bump band (like you get on children's trousers!). I thought it was hilarious ot have those at first, but they are the only pair I don't have to keep hoisting up.

I have a pair of over the bump ones from Seraphine and they fall down so much I can only really wear them if we are doing soemthing that doesn't involve much walking, like going out for a meal. I could never, ever wear them shopping or something! Grin

lilly13 · 16/02/2011 18:34

i had this problem with over-the-bump jeans, too. then i bought these www.destinationmaternity.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=973160475&MasterCategory_Id=MC6 and they fit perfectly. very comfy and do not slide at all.

mrstickle77 · 16/02/2011 18:34

A tip that worked for me. I've only worn over the bump, as under the bump were uncomfy. A bumpband will help hold them in place and stop the need for constant hitching up.

AlbertaWildRose · 16/02/2011 18:37

I'm 34 weeks, and still all my maternity trousers (jeans, cords, anything) fall down. I have to wear my husband's belt to keep them up at all!

JBrd · 16/02/2011 18:39

Same here - all my trousers are under-the-bump and all of them are really annoying! Constantly have to hoist them up, and I'm scared of bending or kneeling down because they might just fall down! Really need to get some over-the-bump ones, but don't want to spend any more money on maternity clothes!

LibraPoppyGirl · 16/02/2011 18:40

Oooh I'm having this problem with two pairs of maternity jeans that I have. So glad I'm not the only one.

One is a pair from Debenhams the other Marks & Sparks. I have to hoist both pairs up. It's as if my bum isn't big enough to keep them up [hmm).

I've stuck to my usual size in clothing (size 12) for all of my maternity wear and everything is absolutely fine in accommodating my bump except the jeans.

Driving me insane but as mrstickle77 said a good bump band is now on my list of things to get.

Can anyone recommend a good make? There seem to be so many out there. I have been looking on ebay and there are heaps. Any ideas?

Thanks ladies Smile x

LibraPoppyGirl · 16/02/2011 18:46

Also take a look at these:

Hope this link works. Quite expensive I think as in my local Betterware catalogue they are doing the exactly the same things for corners of sheets and under your ironing board (they are the same short size too as they're elasticated) for £3.49 a pair with a free pair thrown in and they're white. I've ordered a pair to see how they go. I'll let you know. Unless anyone else out there has tried them? Smile

suedehead · 16/02/2011 18:52

I'm feeling your pain, ladies... Had a pair of Next jeans with stretchy side panels that did for the first few months, but have long since given up on them. HAve some New Look ones with an over-the-bump panel which have been OK, but the stitching on the elastic at the top of the panel has all come away and I'm far too lazy to get round to sewing them back up.

Have some lovely under-the-bump trousers I've bought from Mamas and Papas (factory shop - hurrah!) which I quite like so long as I wear a belly band as well.

Those mini braces look brilliant! Might have to invest in a set - thanks for the top tip!

That said, I do much prefer just wearing dresses and maternity tights.....

mrstickle77 · 16/02/2011 18:54

I got mine here:
www.bumpband.co.uk/?gclid=COaCyqmsjacCFUod4Qod9nkejw

I didn't realise there were cheaper options before I bought it (think it was about £16 from memory). I couldn't say how good the other ones are, but I have seen double packs in places like mothercare.

However, I can say the one I bought is good quality and has done the job for me right through from about 10 weeks when my own trousers were getting tight, to 41 weeks I am now and some things struggling to cover a big bump!

mrstickle77 · 16/02/2011 18:56

Over the bump leggings have also become my best friend.

BeetleBaby · 16/02/2011 19:00

I've just about given up with the under bump jeans as even a belt doesn't help anymore, the over bump are much better.

However I decided to avoid the falling down problem by buying some dungarees Grin I love them (though I do have to remember to stand a little further from the loo when undoing them to avoid dipping the straps in!)

OffToNarnia · 16/02/2011 19:02

A couple of years back I had great over the bump ones from Debenhams - RedHerring I think. Only ones I had that didn't fall down.

tlise · 16/02/2011 19:08

Have the same thing but with leggings. Its annoying Angry

flowerfairy · 16/02/2011 19:23

@I have some red herring jeans over th e bump and quite frankly they area apain in the arse. As i'm 38 weeks now i've taken to only wearing them if i have to go out of the house and i'm wearing my pyjama bottoms around the house as i was getting so annoyed by them.

7 years ago last time i was pg had a lovely mothercare pair but don't seem to exist any more

smellyeli · 16/02/2011 19:26

Asda do bumpbands! £7 for two, I would go for a size smaller than you think you need - I have bought small and I am definitely NOT small! But they are tight enought to hold my jeans up to prevent me doing that hoicking up thing and exposing my hairy, stretch marked belly to the world.....

nicolamumof3 · 16/02/2011 20:19

my underbump next ones fine, but wouldn't wear without a belt!!

PukeyMummy · 16/02/2011 21:01

Me too! Me too!

I'm 14 weeks with DC2 and am in maternity clothes much earlier than with DD. Plus with her I was working so not wearing jeans as much.

I dug out my maternity clothes last week from the loft and almost all of the jeans I had at the end of last pregnancy have been a dead loss. Jojo, Mothercare and Dotty P, under- and over-the-bump have all failed to stay up even with a bump band. Sad

The only pair that I had from last time that do work, and are still a perfect fit, are some v. expensive "7 for All Mankind" over-the-bump ones I bought last time in New York. I've been wearing them this week but the crotch area, which was a bit frayed, now has a massive hole in it and I'm going to have to throw them away.

I might have to invest in just one new pair of them and wear them non-stop for the rest of my pregnancy. But they are sooo expensive now I'm not working.

Have tried to venture into leggings, but I'm not really a leggings person, constantly worried about whether or not my bum's covered.

And if DH makes another pop about my builder's bum I won't be responsible for my actions!

thell · 16/02/2011 21:17

Me too!
A friend gave me her maternity jeans in a size smaller than my usual, and they STILL fall down!!

Will get a bump band, and some leggings.

clarabella18 · 16/02/2011 21:30

I have an old pair from being pg with ds and they are fab. Unfortunately they are 8 years old and are on the verge of wearing out. I have another pair of over the bump ones I got from asda and they fall down constantly if I yak more than 2 steps, seen as all the bump bands I've seen look to small for my ample figure I have resplorted to grabbing a handful of the bump material, pulling ittight and scrunching it together and fastening with a hairband. I then tuck the gathered bit inside. Not the best of ways I'm sure but it seems to work!

Beaurevage · 16/02/2011 21:36

Suspenders/braces - an absolute godsend! I borrowed them from my husband as my jeans and work trousers would never stay up. Am 35 weeks now and have to wear my trousers quite loose so that they're comfy when I sit down. Result is though that they fall down when I get up. Soooo, suspenders up and over the shoulder and down the back is the way to go (under my shirt of course).

....I do feel like a clown mind you.

DirtyMartini · 16/02/2011 21:41

During my last pg I found a belt worked but cut into the bump, so I used a pair of tights as a belt. V comfy and effective . I know, it sounds very like a Viz Crap Tip, but I honestly swore by it ... nobody could see ...

Jupiter118 · 17/02/2011 08:43

I have had this problem (drives me mad).

I have solved by buying two bump bands (topshop) and stitching them onto the top of my underbump jeans. It seems to have solved the problem quite well.

The bands were £5 - mothercare and other places also sell them.

Annoying though that few places seem to now sell over the bump trousers/jeans though.
