Goddamn maternity jeans falling down!

Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm past the point of trying to squeeze into my own trousers, being 18 weeks with DC3, so have moved into a nice new pair of maternity jeans but I have to keep hoisting them up. I thought the whole idea of maternity clothes was that they could see you through from when you were too big for normal stuff until full-term.

I feel less than glamorous Angry.

And perhaps slightly hormonal Blush.

I have this trouble too its because I always end up slimmer round my bum and hips when I@m pg due to sickness!! I think although they say stick with your normal size I nearly always end up having to go down a size or two. I usually go for under the bump ones (can't stand anything over my bump) and wear a belt!

PomPotty · 17/02/2011 08:59

For holding up errant trousers the only bump band that I have found to work is this one here

The other thing that worked well was a pregnancy hip support made from neoprene and velcro A bit like this worn over trousers and under top here

wolfhound · 17/02/2011 09:07

ALL my maternity trousers fall down and always have in all 3 pregnancies. Roll on spring time when i can wear skirts more

FindingStuffToChuckOut · 17/02/2011 09:30

Yes indeed - we all need jeans with braces :)

Actually I was delighted to find my old Red Herring ones last weekend. They are under the bump(ish) and just have the expanding bits in the pockets. The seems to hook over my hips & go under bump. Surprisingly much more comfy and stay up better than the Next ones with the wide band (half bump ones) - and I tried 100's on before buying those.

marriednotdead · 17/02/2011 09:31

Beaurevage is right, braces are the only real solution, especially if you're like me and have no arse.

Worked brilliantly, hidden under my tops. Looked like Humpty Dumpty though Grin

RunDMC · 17/02/2011 10:21

yep braces are the only option for me too (17 weeks at the mo) but a bit of a pain as you have to unclip every time you need the loo. Thought I'd get a skirt and maternity tights as an alternative and now I can't keep the tights up either. Am keeping my fingers crossed once the bump is big enough they'll stay up but who knows !! Sigh..

I'm sure all maternity jeans have changed in the past few years!! I have bought about 3 pairs this time, under bump, over bump, skinny and they all bloody fall down!! Luckily my friend gave me her old pair that have the elastic and buttons (as Midori mentions) and they are amazing! I wear them all week, quick change at weekend and one day in horrible jogging type bottoms and then back on!
I wouldn't wear them if they looked horrible though, they do look nice too, maybe have a look at ones Midori mentions?

stegasaurus · 17/02/2011 11:10

I thought it was just me that had this problem and it was another side effect of being too short for all maternity trousers. I am fed up of having no trousers that actually fit now. My major problem is with jeans that have the elastic and buttons on the inside so they can be adjusted, as whenever I wash them the button comes undone and the elastic pings into the depths of inside the waistband and I can't get at it to get it out again. Those jeans now have nothing to keep them up. I did wear a belt with them and my other jeans but am now too big for the belt

ecuse · 17/02/2011 11:43

Me too! I have both under-bump and over-bump and they both fall down. I have resigned myself to it.

NickiAndAlex · 17/02/2011 13:29

I have an under bump, over bump and around the bump pair, all of which fall down! Having a toddler who sometimes clings to my legs doesn't help, either!

I wish I knew about that thing in the ebay link before though, it doesn't seem worth it for less than a month left (hopefully).

The over the bump trousers, I actually pin to my bra with safety pins, which works, but is a hassle when I need the loo.

It doesn't seem to matter what stage of pregnancy I'm at either, from just starting to need mat clothes, to about ready to drop, they all fall down!

After having this problem all pregnancy last time, I bought a pair of dungarees second hand. I feel a bit silly wearing them, but they're very comfortable and most importantly, don't fall down!

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 17/02/2011 14:23

Am I the only person in the world to safety pin my maternity trousers to my bra? It always worked for me! I was out of normal trousers by week 10 second time around, but maternity trousers were huge! the safety pin worked wonders!

LibraPoppyGirl · 17/02/2011 14:34

Safety pins hey...mmh that sounds interesting. I would need rather large ones though as the band on my maternity jeans doesn't come up that high now I'm 25 weeks. That's why I've order the side braces from betterware that are the same as the ebay ones I linked to.

I wouldn't mind trying the safety pins, where can I get big safefy pins from? Smile

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 17/02/2011 14:44

A chemist perhaps? my trousers were huge so I didnt have a problem. just a small pin in front!

NickiAndAlex · 17/02/2011 15:57

Saggy, no you're not, see my post above yours. :)

The ones that I use the safety pin on have a huge over the bump panel - it isn't stretchy enough to hold up the trousers, but it does reach all the way up to the bra, so normal safety pins worked.

For big safety pins, you could try nappy pins (if they still exist). Or use an extra piece of material or something to work as a suspender between bra and band.

My wife had such a hard time finding a decent pair of maternity jeans that would stay up and feel comfortable when she was pregnant with baby 1, which is why we launched www.justmaternityjeans.com. We researched so many stockists from all over Europe...and know that what we offer is what we'd wear ourselves thanks to baby 2! Check out our Over the Bump Collection for maternity jeans that stay up and won't fall down. Hopefully our Size Guide will help answer all your questions about what to look for in a pair of maternity jeans...

gothmom · 27/02/2011 17:22

Fully confirmed member of the Braces Brigade! I just got so fed up of hoisting trousers and jeans up everytime I stood up and walked across a room. Sometimes do feel clownish but wonderful DH says they are actually quite sexy! Obviously wear the braces under the shirt/top and be mindful to warm up the metal bits in your hand before putting them against nice warm skin to avoid a mild surprise.

mummysleepy · 27/02/2011 21:03

I have given up on jeans and am now wearing my trusty dungarees all the time (till its a bit warmer anyway). this is DC3 for me and I always end up in my dungarees by the 3rd trimester!

I stick mine in the tumble dryer for 20 mins in the evening. Not very environmentally friendly, but does seem to make them a bit snugger around the bum which helps keep them up!

I pinched one of my husband's belts and do it up under the bump. It seems to work so far.

Teaandflapjacks · 21/03/2013 18:31

I have H&M over the bump skinnies - i got two pairs in diff colours and plan for them to see me through now - by summer I'll be huge and in maxi skirts anyway.... I find them brilliant for me - I knew they would get a bit baggy with wear, so went for the ones that were tight in the shop, but not 'skin tight' skinnies - so I had 'growing' room for my arse! My bump is quite small partic during day - in eve bigger, so I just tuck the top bit of the bump band under my bra and it holds it fine in place. I use a belt sometimes with them under the bump - as occasionally need to do a hoist up without - I am going to try a previous posters excellent tip about tights as a belt too. For sizing in case it helps - I am normally a 12, lost a nearly stone due to 'morning sickness' and was an 8-10, but bought size 12 H&M maternity jeans, I found the 10 would fit ok, but were tight, realistically that would last for 4 weeks and then I'd be on to the next size I figured. Now just over another bout, I off to polish off my the second half of my orio cookie packet - latest craving. Smile

worsestershiresauce · 21/03/2013 18:37

My best buy was a pair of over the bump needle cords from H&M. The belt hooks under the bump held them up in the 20-30 wk phase. After that the bump held them up. I bought several pairs of under the bump jeans from various places, and was never able to wear any of them. The perils of internet shopping.

Snowflakepie · 21/03/2013 18:43

Under bump were awful for me, had new look, red herring and mothercare. But then I found some jojomamanbebe over bump which are just wonderful, and have been from about 21 weeks. No pulling up at all! But they are two sizes smaller than I would normally wear. However, hooray for being pregnant in a size 8! Tried on every pair going but it was worth it. I have 2 pairs and just live in them.

DaveMccave · 21/03/2013 19:03

I've been wearing black maternity skinnies from h&m, the bump band is nice and long, and have had no problems with them falling down even from wearing with a micro bump. However, I bought some grey leopard ones from there, same skinny style, same size, and they are constantly falling down. They are infuriating! I can't work out the difference?! I think the bump panel is slightly shorter though.
